Be Smarter.

Good Morning and welcome to another Monday in The United States. We've officially entered Presidential campaign season. Ballotpedia is always a good source to see who is running, who not, who has dropped out and who is still considering throwing a hat into the ring. The list is long.

As of February 10, 2019, there are 521 candidates who filed to run, including: [51]

175 Democratic candidates
70 Republican candidates
19 Libertarian candidates
13 Green candidates
I would say maybe 5% of those declaring are viable candidates. I don't know who I am going to support right now, each new campaign announcement gets me excited and heartened.

Then, like clockwork, the naysayers come out and immediately try to tear down the person who has decided they would like to lead our nation. I've seen it with Harris, Gillibrand, Warren, and Klobuchar to name four women* off the top of my head.

In other words, the purity police are purity policing. There is no perfect candidate. There is no one person out there that is unblemished by their personal history. These past few weeks in Virginia have certainly put a spotlight on that. What's important is their intent and how they have crafted public policy and stances-- and when needed -- changed them to be more in line with our society today.

If a person can change and grow; can make adjustments to the changes in our society's changing needs, then the blemishes of their past should not always disqualify them from serving public office.

Let me put it another way, purity tests (with a healthy dose of Russian hacking) on the left delivered to this nation the most impure, corrupt and scandalous person to ever occupy the Oval Office in modern history.

What this administration is doing is going to take years to recover and any qualified person that is willing to take on such a huge task deserves respect right out of the starting gate. Let the Caucuses and Primaries be a place where can have a discussion on why one person would be better for the office than another.

Let's be smarter than we were a few years ago. We can do this.
