Step Aside Nancy
Author: Raine    Date: 01/24/2008 13:42:18

Here we go again. The House has decided to put aside contempt charges against Bolton and Miers. Why? Politico tells us:
Senior Democrats have decided that holding a controversial vote on the contempt citations, which have already been approved by the House Judiciary Committee as part of its investigation into the firing of nine U.S. attorneys, would “step on their message” of bipartisan unity in the midst of the stimulus package talks.
[...] “Right now, we’re focused on working in a bipartisan fashion on [the] stimulus,” said House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.), indicating that the contempt vote is not expected for weeks, depending on how quickly the stimulus package moves.

Brendan Daly, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), said “no decision has been made” as to when a criminal contempt vote would be held by the House.
In the midst of Bipartisan talks? WTF?

Don't these dems understand that no stimulous package in the world will help the problem going on in this country? None. Don't they get the fact that $800 dollars isn't going to make anything better? Money cannot buy security or justice.

Don't they get the fact that this country is in a depression? It is a depression caused by this administration, its failed policies, its lies, its deceptions, its constant pandering to corporate interests, to corporate tax breaks, to cronyism, to deregulation... the list can go on.

What the house must do is go forward on 2 tracks (or three of four or five). They absolutely must stop taking things off the table because they cannot deal with crises on multiple levels - it's called multitasking. Every American worker is asked to do more and more of it every day, and the house needs to start doing a better job of it. And if they can't do that, then Nancy Pelosi should step down as speaker of the house.

So many dems HAVE done, and continue to do, great work up on the hill. Dennis Kucinich, Henry Waxman, Robert Wexler and John Conyers come immediatley to mind. On the senate side, We have Russ Feingold, Jim Webb and Christopher Dodd, who by the way, has said he will renew his filibuster regarding the telecom bill. Those are just the ones that come to mind right off the bat. There are so many others.

Nancy Pelosi is in over her head; she is obstructing the work we sent dems to Washington to do. Her desire for bipartisanship had Impeachment taken off the table, and now contempt charges as well. The War still goes forward, with no plans in sight to stop the funding. She allows herself to be bullied by the Bush Republicans and always seems to concede to them instead of listening and working for to all the Americans who cry out every day for justice. Yes, instead of letting that happen,or taking proactive steps to MAKE it happen, she steps in the way.

It is time for her to start listening to the people or step down from her position as Madam Speaker.

:peace: and
Raine

Why do the collective "we" feel it's justified to use an actor/celebritie's life, misjudgements, or deaths as the butt of "our" jokes. I grow weary of the laughing at Britney, who is in a serious downward spiral. It doesn't matter if she is rich, or famous, her life is becoming tragic.

And, as for Heath Ledger. Jesus Christ! What the hell did he do to offend John Gibson. Yes, he was famous. Yes, he had money. And, now he is gone. . . and there is a very real mother, father, sister, daughter, ex-girlfriend who are devestated. He was a PERSON, regardless of his position in life. So, why is his death "Fair Game?"

F*cker.

The only thing that even makes sense to me in a sick kind of way is that it makes insecure people feel better about themselves when they cut down easy targets like celebrities. I think movies and TV have created this negative reality in people's minds that permits them to view celebrities as characters instead of real flesh and blood persons with the same hopes, desires, fears, and insecurities as the rest of us. The big difference is that they live their lives under a microscope.

Raine,

I couldn't agree with you more, I woke up this morning to the news that Congressional Dems had already caved on the food stamp and unemployment extensions and then I heard that Harry Reid (another real disappointment, IMHO) is so eager to get to Davos, Switzerland that he is willing to grant telecoms immunity just to get the FISA bill through. I hope that Chris Dodd stands his ground, I think that it is worth a call to our senators and encourage them to support Sen. Dodd's filibuster and stop telecom immunity. Mornin' everybody!

Cheers,

MFaye

Good morning, bloggers!! Another glorious day on the frozen shores of Lake Michigan, where the wind chill temperature is approaching the cold chill of Ann Coulter's ..... heart.

Starling310, we sadly have too many people in this country who make a living out of tearing others down - especially if they can build themselves up. That is the nature of Fox News: tear people down while showing them as elitists, and build up the common folk while promoting the agenda of the true elites - business interests and partisan interests.

Urge Congress to stop "Drive-Through" Mastectomies! Sign the Petition

When my grandmother had her Mastectomy she had to stay in the hospital for almost a week not they send women out a few hours afterwards. It's ridiculous!

They have been trying to get the Congress to atleast talk about this for 12 years and they only need 8 more sponsers to do that. Sign the petition and contact your people, women's health is important for healthy families.

That last line is key: "women's health is important for healthy families"

THAT's how you frame the debate. For that matter, let's rename "Universal Health Care" as "The Healthy Families Initiative"

Update on Wexler wants hearings:
Rep. Wexler is now accepting signatures on his letter from all congress members, so no matter where you live you can ask your representative to sign. Some surprising names have already signed, so there is hope that yours will too!

We are calling for hearings into possible impeachable offenses, not for co-sponsoring specific Articles of Impeachment. But these must be IMPEACHMENT hearings because the White House has ignored all of the subpoenas issued in non-impeachment hearings.

We are asking Congress at long last to stand up and assert its power, and that requires using the only form of accountability specified in the Constitution: Impeachment.

Sign the separate petition at Democrats.com

... and remember, if Congress can have hearing about steroids, they sure as hell can have at the VERY LEAST, impeachment hearings. Send a letter to your representative today. Dennis will be bringing a new impeachment request to the floor on January 28, so time is of the essence.

Check it out and do make a call - I followed the discussion in the Senate yesterday and it looks like Dorgan is about the only senator who wants it passed without crippling amendments. Lawmakers clinch a deal on tax rebates. I have my doubts that it can work when we have so many fundamental problems, such as the mortgage crisis.

HERe is a real problem with Hillary and what Bill just said regarding the fact that she withstood 8 years of attacks when he was in office.

She NOR he could stop those attacks. And since that time, those attacks have not stopped from this republicans party.

Just becuase Hillary withstood those attacks, doesn't mean she stopped them, and it doesn't mean that they won't happen again... becuase I believe they will. Using Obama as a way to show how tough she is, by either bill or herself proves nothing, except that they themselves attack, sadly, much like the republicans.

From the Link that Will gave:
Families with children would receive an additional $300 per child, subject to an overall cap of perhaps $1,200, according to a senior House aide who outlined the deal on condition of anonymity in advance of formal adoption of the whole package. Rebates would go to people earning below a certain income cap, likely individuals earning $75,000 or less and couples with incomes of $150,000 or less.

Jean Smart recommended THIS article, from WaPo:

The Pakistan Test

Some presidential candidates show they can respond quickly to a foreign policy crisis. Some flunk or foul.

THE ASSASSINATION of Benazir Bhutto presented U.S. presidential candidates with a test: Could they respond cogently and clearly to a sudden foreign policy crisis? Within hours some revealing results were in. One candidate, Democrat John Edwards, passed with flying colors. Another, Republican Mike Huckabee, flunked abysmally. Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican John McCain were serious and substantive; Republicans Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani were thin. And Barack Obama -- the Democratic candidate who claims to represent a new, more elevated brand of politics -- committed an ugly foul.

Let's start with Mr. Edwards, who managed not only to get Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on the phone Thursday but also to deliver a strong message. The candidate said he had encouraged Mr. Musharraf "to continue on the path to democratization [and] to allow international investigators to come in and determine what happened, what the facts were." Those are words the Pakistani president needs to hear from as many Americans as possible. He has yet to confirm that the Jan. 8 parliamentary elections will go forward and risks a destabilizing backlash against his own government unless he delivers a full and credible account of the authors and circumstances of Ms. Bhutto's killing.

Much more at the link. Iffin someone wants to email this to the Show, that'd be great!

Regarding the non-voter...

Can you say something like "Well, that's unfortunate. I'm going to have to add your name to the "Un-American" database that was created by the Bush Administration after 9/11, I'm going to need some additional information from you...."

Think that'll wake some people up?

I had fun calling on behalf of Tammy Duckworth in 2006 - I got one person who was a Democrats are Communitsts rant. I think he believed it was the 1964 elections.

I am kinda waiting for that to happen to me. I will indeed resist the temptation to tell the person that I am a volunteer for John Edwards not a caller from the Bill O'reilly show. ... I just got another guy (second person) who was very nice when he told me that he voted last week in the Republican primary... I said I am sorry... and he laughed, goodnaturedly. He wished the dems luck... he said we all need it! :D

Hi to all. I just wanted to make a comment about us blue-eyed blonde Aryan girls. Aryan really has nothing to do with eye or hair color. It mainly refers to people in Northern European countries as well as some Iranians who spoke indo-european languages. The word Aryan means of pure white blood which is more than likely how Hitler started using it. Again another person not speaking the total facts about a group of people blue-eyed natural blondes. And none of this group can be of pure blood because we all know that we are made up of lots of ancestors. The real Aryans are really more about culture than race they have their origins in a region of India. I know people really sometimes are not really putting a group of people down just because of eye and hair color that would be terrible that would be clumping all brown eyed brown hair etc into a sterotype. Blonde jokes are socially acceptable but none of us would tell a joke about anyone if we were judging them. So lets not toss words around so easily I am a proud blonde w blue eyes and I am a loyal american who finds the word Aryan when clumped in with my born H/C and E/C offensive. Just my thoughts. I would also like to send my son a GREAT BIG 27th B-DAY HUG AND KISS!!!!! Miss you kiddo!!!

Cleveland Congressman Dennis Kucinich is dropping out of the Democratic race for president. Kucinich will make the announcement Friday at a news conference in Cleveland. In an exclusive interview with Plain Dealer editors and reporters, Kucinich said he will explain his "transition" tomorrow. "I want to continue to serve in Congress," he said. Kucinich said he will not endorse another Democrat in the primary. Kucinich is seeking a seventh term in Congress, but his long-shot bid for the White House has drawn four Democratic opponents.

Quote by Raine: Jean Smart recommended THIS article, from WaPo:

:bump: for when the issue DOES come up... and It will...
