The CIA used a widely condemned interrogation technique known as waterboarding on three suspects captured after the September 11 attacks, CIA Director Michael Hayden told Congress on Tuesday.
"Waterboarding has been used on only three detainees," Hayden told the Senate Intelligence Committee. It was the first time a U.S. official publicly specified the number of people subjected to waterboarding and named them.
Critics call waterboarding a form of illegal torture. Congress is considering banning the technique.
- Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment
The law prohibits such practices; however, security forces reportedly tortured detainees to elicit confessions and discourage resistance. The forms of torture and other abuse included: electric shock; submersion of the head in water; beatings with hands, sticks, and police batons; suspension, sometimes manacled, from cell doors and rods resulting in loss of consciousness; and cigarette burns. According to AI, police and prison officials used sexual assault and threats of sexual assault against the wives of Islamist prisoners to extract information, to intimidate, and to punish.

For example, on June 25, according to CNLT, 25-year-old Zied Ghodhbane appeared in court in a state of physical and psychological distress, bearing marks of abuse on his body. He reportedly testified that officials at the Ministry of Interior tortured him by beatings, electrocution, and holding his head under water in detention facilities at the interior ministry after his extradition from Algeria to the country.

In the spirit of democratic participation, casual dating website OnlineBootyCall.com created an online poll to let their members decide which Presidential candidate and spouse had the assets to be deemed "Booty Call Material." In the provocative poll, an interactive flash game titled BootyCall Decision 2008, Hillary Clinton defeated Obama with 55% of the vote, while 70% of voters ranked Elizabeth Edwards as the top presidential candidate spouse.
The Presidential candidates' attractiveness already garnered plenty of media attention. CNN questioned whether Mitt Romney is too good looking, the Washington Post balked at the slightest hint of Hillary's cleavage, and now, OnlineBootyCall.com enters the fray by asking which Presidential candidate (or spouse) is the most desirable date for an online booty call.
All jests aside, OnlineBootyCall.com's founder Moses (Mo) Brown feels that taking a unique approach to political ratings encourages a broader range of involvement in the political debate. "Despite people's reluctance to admit, the attractiveness of a Presidential candidate plays an influential role in their electability," noted Brown, also adding, "Over 300,000 booty call connections are made every week on OBC, our members know who is worthy of a booty call and who isn't."

Same thing that happened to mine - it went into the abyss.
Although if you voted in a state where Edwards wound up with delegates, at least your vote will go wherever Edwards' wants them to go. Since I voted early in Illinois before I moved, mine vanished in a puff of smoke.

The last company I worked for didn't recycle bottles or cans. I asked the powers in charge if they could set that up in the breakroom. They said the maintenance crew wouldn't recycle them. I told them that if they set up a recycling container in the breakroom, I would take them myself.

I can appreciate that sort of effort. Unfortunately, this is a hospital and I'm not equipped to handle that level of recycling. Even if I were to attempt just the break room for the department where I'm working I don't think I could manage it.
Maybe there's another way to tackle this.....
