Keystone Eve.
Author: Raine    Date: 04/21/2008 12:37:30

Good Morning. Do you have your flag pin on? Is your phone set to speed dial Hillary at 3 am? Are you ready for today?

It's the last day of campaigning for the Pennsylvania Primary. I am so glad that it is nearly over. The fight for the Keystone state is nearly over.
This morning we wake up to find that Obama is flush with cash on hand, while Clinton is, well, she is in debt. From the AP:
Barack Obama began the month of April with a 5-1 cash advantage over a debt-saddled Hillary Rodham Clinton, setting the stage for his lopsided spending in the crucial primary state of Pennsylvania.
Financial reports filed Sunday by the Democratic presidential candidates with the Federal Election Commission show Clinton had $10.3 million in debts at the start of the month and only about $9 million cash on hand for the primaries. Obama reported having $42 million for the primary.

Clinton's red ink poses yet another obstacle to her campaign as she seeks to end the primary season with a string of victories. She trails Obama in delegates, states won and popular votes. And she can't dent Obama's superior fundraising.
[...]

Clinton, who had kept pace with Obama financially throughout last year, had even less cash on hand than Republican John McCain. McCain raised $15.2 million in March and had $11.6 million in the bank at the start of April. It was his best fundraising performance of the campaign, coming after he had essentially secured his party's presidential nomination.

Now, this is something that truly concerns me. I was highly critical of Rudy 911™ for the this same issue. In these times, with so many people having so little precious money, with such an important election, I am concerned that Senator Clinton is once again in debt with her campaign. It makes me lack confidence in her ability to turn this country's economy around. I don't know if it is just bad campaign management, or if it is simply that people want to give money to Obama. It really doesn't matter, the money tells the story.

In the mean time McCain is sitting back and taking it easy. I am more than sure he is loving this.

I hope that Pennsylvania will decide this race once and for all, because in these weeks leading up to this very important primary, I have felt an unease settle in around the party. We have been accused of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I don't want it to happen again.

And after Tuesday, I hope that the superdelagates finally start making their decisions, because as much as I would have liked this primary season to keep going, as long as the Republicans know that they have a candidate, we are letting them have a free pass.

I will see you inside.

:peace: and
Raine

P.S. Michael Moore has endorsed Barack Obama. His letter is worth the read.

Morning, folks!

Despite Saturday being the actual anniversary, this Commonwealth is celebrating today as Patriot's Day...

The re-enactment is already done, and the Minutemen have once again routed the British Army...

Marathon steps off at 10:00, and the first pitch at Fenway is 11:05 (the only morning start in the Majors...)

Ew! Photos!!! Must go see them............. (Did Raine wear her floppy hat? Enquiring minds need to know!)

Morning all. Velveeta is breathing better today, not coughing nearly as much, but does still sound like a southern version of Kathleen Turner.

The Jones/Azalea household will be voting today in early elections.

And BTW, in case you do not read that letter from MM... let me quote a very important part:
Finally, I want to say a word about the basic decency I have seen in Mr. Obama. Mrs. Clinton continues to throw the Rev. Wright up in his face as part of her mission to keep stoking the fears of White America. Every time she does this I shout at the TV, "Say it, Obama! Say that when she and her husband were having marital difficulties regarding Monica Lewinsky, who did she and Bill bring to the White House for 'spiritual counseling?' THE REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT!"

Clinton Camps accuses Obama of being a copycat

Hillary Clinton was clearly having a blast during her drop-in television appearance with Stephen Colbert here Thursday, but her campaign's mood soured when aides learned Barack Obama would be appearing on the same show via satellite.

The men are about a mile out.

well, I think this can all be done, Mala told me that there are a bunch of TJ in her area... So if they don't have the trinity by her, we can bring it up.

As far as the 2buck chuck, we need to know what kind of wine!

(I actually really like the Shiraz...)

I think it's just called Two Buck Chuck - that's all I've ever heard it called. Or are there different varieties? I've never purchased it myself.

I'll call up the TJs close to the hotel and find out what they've got of either in stock.

OH! the 2 Buck Chuck comes in Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet, Savignon Blanc, Chardonnay..

During the last segment of the Red Sox game, one of the announcers was interviewing one of Da Brooins on the phone from Montreal as they are preparing for the seventh game of that series.

And until these series play out, we don't know who the Rangers will play in the next round. Pittsburgh may be the best hunch but it could be Les Habs if Montreal and Washington advance to the next round.

I remember it being a red, but I never looked at the details of the label, but most vineyards make a Chard, Merlot and Cab. They are the most popular wines in the US. So it should be either the Merlot or Cab.

I very nearly was when I worked for a newspaper - the Guild, I believe it's called. Every other department in the building was union - even the opposing newspaper's editorial department (which was in the same building) was.

The organizers worked long and hard and a lot of people *said* they were voting union yes, but ultimately the count was forty short. Even sadder was that, when you did the math, only twenty votes would have swung it the other way.

Less than two years later, a Teamster strike closed the paper for good. I can't help but wonder if management would never have pushed against the Teamsters if the editorial department had gone union.

TJ's makes four varieties of Mr. Chuck's wine...two white, two red.

There's a Chardonnay and a Pinot Grigio, and then a Cabernet Sauvignon, and I'm pretty sure it's a Merlot.

Yes, but his Hillary slam about Wright was pretty tacky. He intimated that Billary personally requested Rev. Wright to come and counsel them during the whole blue dress thing. If I'd only read what MM wrote instead of checking the link he provided in the email I would have thought that Wright was a personal confidante to both of them. Instead he was one of several men of the cloth invited to a prayer breakfast. Other than that, MM had no substantiation for what he wrote.

I like MM a lot and generally defend him but this one annoyed me.

I've been sitting in my apartment for two weeks now waiting for the phone to ring, calling my agencies and sending out my resume.

Today, I get one offer to start tomorrow on a temp assignment for $15 an hour. I know pretty much where it is, but it's for doctors and they want me to do the office professional look all the time. (Not sure how much leeway there is to business casual....) It would also put the proverbial kibosh on leaving in the morning on Friday (since I could no longer count on my temp agency to agree that there wasn't work available for me when they fill out my UC form), but I could still at least head out by around noon. Drat.....

And I got an email from another agency for a possible something, not sure where the office is located, for $18 an hour. Not sure what the dress is at all.

Plus I'm on hold for two other potential jobs, but no idea what's up with those.

Misrepresenting Libertarianism there, Thom.

It's not reactive; for my branch of the party at least, the rule would be "do no harm". there shouldn't be a law unless someone is going to be injured. Regarding the case just presented, there would be regulations placed on the example toxic chemical, and someone would be held responsible.

I will yield that to other parts of the party, their thought would be "Let's not regulate anything, when people die, the market will react and put those companies out of business".

Shelagh work update:

Working this week, but nothing beyond mid-May as a definite. The agency for the $18/hr job just sounded weird. The woman there asked me if she had my most recent resume. I said if it had my last job (said the name to her), that was it. She said she balked at sending over a text resume to the client. I told her I'd be happy to send a word document and told her I hadn't updated with some temp work I'd performed. She seemed confused (and I'm sure she was sure *I* was confused) and told me that the client needed to know I could do formatting so sending over an unformatted text resume wasn't the best thing. I reassured her I had a word version, but that I didn't use heavy formatting because of problems some email programs had with formatting.

She again said she needed to show the client that any candidate they sent over could create documents that had formatting. Then she paused and said "on second thought, I don't think you'd be a good candidate for this job. Thank you very much."

And she hung up.

Anyway, I'm back to $15 an hour - this time paying for public trans instead of free parking. But it'll be better for the environment, right?

From the 360 /CNN blog:

[SIZE=7]Why is Gov. Rendell so silent today about Louis Farrakhan?

[/SIZE

In the ABC debate, Sen. Hillary Clinton again brought up Rev. Wright’s association with Farrakhan. Trust me, it wasn’t positive. And in the previous debate with Obama on MSNBC, she called on him to repudiate and denounce Farrakhan¹s unsolicited praise of the junior senator from Illinois.

A lot of folks have commented on the issue, but one person who has been real quiet has been Gov. Ed Rendell.

Maybe that’s because as mayor of Philadelphia, Rendell, who is Jewish, had some really wonderful things to say about Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.

====================================

I posted the video below. You think that Larry King will mention this tonite?

A couple new videos based on SMS bits:

"Pressure" from this morning. I wanted to do the visual of the B-section.

And, a video version of the McCain "Flipper" bit - I've been wanting to get to it, but lacked the time.

Hope y'all like.
