This is kinda funny...

Sen. Hillary Clinton’s mailing attacking Sen. Barack Obama’s record on guns appears to include a striking visual gaffe: The image of the gun pictured on the face of the mailing is reversed, making it a nonexistent left-handed model of the Mauser 66 rifle.

To make matters worse, a prominent gun dealer said, it’s an expensive German gun with customized features that make it clearly European.

“The gun in the photo does not exist,” said Val Forgett III, president of Navy Arms in Martinsburg, W.Va. Forgett's company was Mauser’s agent in the United States when the gun was released, and it sold Mauser guns here again in the 1990s. “The bolt is facing to the left side of the receiver, making it a left-handed bolt action rifle, indicating whoever constructed and approved the mailer did not recognize the image has been reversed.”

Forgett said the error would be obvious to sportsmen.

“I find it laughable on its face,” he said. “It’s like a picture of Babe Ruth hitting right-handed.”

Do either one of them realize that memorial day is left than a month away? And that they would have to actually show up to get the thing out of session and onto the floor for a VOTE?

A full report from Webelos Woods…

Of all things, my dentist has a boy in Pack 2, Milton. Guess who we camped with this weekend? I try to be a good patient for the good doctor, chief among my concerns is not biting his fingers off or crying out in pain in his chair. So it was an interesting change of pace to see him all timid and meek in the woods. He’s still a good guy, though…and his son is a very bright boy.

Since this was Webelos, it was mostly inexperienced parents out there. It was really neat to wind up the campsite leader…I ran everything this weekend, and wouldn’t you know it, ours was the only campsite that didn’t have any problems with fire or cooking or ordinary “camp” stuff.

Leaving Sunday morning, one of the parents from 2 Milton was chuckling as I strode by with full kit on my back…”Look at Dave, he’s saying “I can do this with one hand tied behind my back blindfolded!” Of course, I could afford to be a little smug at that point…

About that hot coal…we had to get 40 lbs. of charcoal burning for a foil-dinner cooking event Sat evening. I already had a raging fire going with a decent bed of coals when they dropped off the charcoal, so I just dropped both bags in the fire, paper and all. As the bags burned, the briquettes went everywhere, so I was barehanding them back into the fire circle. Right as I told the kids not to try this at home, I picked up the one that was black on the top and white on the bottom. Good 2nd degree burn on the ol’ fingertip…

And then at closing, I was talking to the council bigwigs about getting back on camp staff for some of these events, and helping to plan the fall Webelos event….when I had to mention that this is my 20th year as a Scouter. Our District Executive said something curious…”Maybe it’s time to turn pro?”

I must admit, I’ve never considered doing so. And I bet you didn’t know there were paid, professional scouting positions out there… I’m thinking it’s worth a look.

I think the "not bathing" thing is an urban myth. Most of the folks I met there were very clean. They just don't seem to use deoderant, and/or dry-cleaning is VERY expensive, so they don't clean their clothes as often.

Riding the bus on a hot day can be pretty overwhelming...

The only restriction would be for the "primary" morning blog. That is loosely assigned so that we know it's covered every day.

Sounds familiar to many in my family, JD.

Say gang, if you've been digging the SomaFM links that I post from time to time, check out Dave's Lounge podcast...all trip-hop and downtempo stuff..

It's their 3rd birthday this week (podcast # 113) and since I 'borrowed' his catchphrase a bit, it's apropo that I give them a shoutout, too. It is my favorite non-political podcast.

[Stop by the lounge anytime...we're always open!] Thanks, Dave! :peace:

Hi Guys, Aunt Azalea just checking in - Ms. Velveeta & I just returned from Obama headquarters. Nifty little story to tell- one of the phone volunteers called a voter from the list, turns out that voter was on his cell phone in what sounded like a bar. After she said she was from the Obama campaign she heard his buddies asking who it was, at which point they said to her-
don't worry about Obama, the klan is going to take care of him

Well after reporting the call she spoke to Special Agent from the FBI who will be probably making a little visit to these guys this afternoon. Not the sharpest knives in the drawer!

Just another campaign update!

Mildred Lving has passed (of Loving V Virginia in 1967) Mildred Loving, a black woman whose challenge to Virginia law banning interracial marriage ultimately dismantled anti-miscegenation laws nationwide, has died. Peggy Fortune, her daughter, said the 68-year-old Loving died Friday at her rural Caroline County home. Fortune did not disclose the cause of death. Loving and her white husband, Richard, changed history in 1967 when the U.S. Supreme Court upheld their right to marry. The ruling struck down laws banning racially mixed marriages in at least 17 states. In a rare interview with The Associated Press last June, Loving said she wasn't trying to change history -- she just wanted to get married. Services are planned Saturday. ========================================

I'm expecting the same amount of attention for Canada Day now. (July 1). We can sit on the Chesterfield and drink Molson's and eat some salmon, eh?

Sammy calling the McCain plane the "Trollop One".

If I had the money and time, I would love to do a Canadian road trip from Windsor to St. John's Newfoundland. In 2004, I went from Montreal to Ottawa to Toronto. On one of my previous trips, I took a day trip to Quebec City and got to see the old European look.

I hope Mondo is correct when we discussed this in DC. Just give him time and hopefully he will come around. He did congratulate you two on the marriage.

Exciting Breaking News -

Kalyn Free, head of INDN's List and super Superdelegate just endorsed Barack Obama - yeah!!! Kalyn is one of only two Natives on the DNC (the other, Frank LaMere, already endorsed Obama). Kalyn is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and an all-around swell person. I had been e-mailing her, asking her about her endorsement, and I just found out today that she is behind Barack Oh happy day!

Cheers,
