BLOG UPDATE

I have made several modifications to the blog. They are:
  • Added a "Help" link: This displays a help screen for new users.

  • Added a "Latest" button: This displays the latest blog entry with comments.

  • Added a "Search" button: Allows for simple keyword search of the blog entries.

  • Added a "roll-up" button: This "rolls up" the main blog entry while in the Comments screen. This eliminates the need to scroll down the screen every time to post a comment when the main blog entry is long. The button is like a toggle, and will roll-up/roll-down every other click.

  • Added a time format display option: Now time can be displayed as AM/PM, or as 24hr military time.

  • Graphics: Changed the menu button graphics (necessary because of limited space).

Hopefully, this will make the blog experience even better for our members! Please let us know immediately if you encounter any problems...

Bobber

I did have a problem last night. A couple of times I would refresh using the F5 key and the text of my last post would populate the add a comment box. If I tried to use the back button in Firefox, I would get a post data message. If I used the home or the latest buttons it would stop with the text and the flaven.

I've always wanted use flaven when I reported a bug to the IT dept!

UPDATE:

I 've changed the emoticons to display less in the main page, so that the panel for them isn't so huge. If you want to see the entire list, click on the button. The items not displayed are the items least used, so the emoticons displayed may change periodically as we review usage.

WOWIE ZOWIE!!!

We have some VERY cool new blog features!!!

1) AudiCons: You can now select from a set of audio files and embed them in your comments. To save screen space, only a few are listed on the front screen here. There are 75 to choose from in the popup box!!

2) Edit button for comments: It's now possible to edit your comments if you make a mistake. The button show up on your comments as an "E" button. Please don't abuse this ... :P

3) No Nesting option: This will prevent quotes from nesting when quoting comments. You turn it on or off in your options panel.

Today I added buttons/links for promoting our blog posts at various news sites. They will show up at the bottom of every blog post. Some of the sites require you to sign up (Fark requires you wait 24 hrs after signing up before you can submit a post).

For those that create blog entries:

There is an additional field on the BlogCreate screen for "Summary". You are limited to 360 characters (including spaces). The reason for that field is that when a reader wants to "Digg" a blog post, there are two fields to fill in: A title and a description. The title is automatically populated with the blog entry title. The summary text will automatically be populated into the description. The size limit in Digg for the description is about 365 characters.

If left blank, the Digger will have to either type something in, or copy and paste from the blog post. Diggers can of course change what you provide as a summary, but it might be helpful to put something in there so they don't have to create it themselves.

If you don't want to create something different for the summary, you can just put in the first few lines of your blog post, and finalize the summary with "click the link to keep reading" or something similar.

For those Digging our blog posts:

When creating a new Digg entry, it seems to be defaulting to the Miller/Goldwater08 ad graphic. Please select the 4Freedoms Thank-you graphic (or no graphic at all).

Thanks...

Well, I suppose it's a good thing that I'm a longtime Fark member?

I Farked the "American Saga" blog, but I have no idea what happens when you do that.

But I also submitted the permalink as a "Sad" under politics....I'll see if it shows up in a few minutes.

NEW FEATURE: Polls!!

Enjoy the Easter colors!

Also - I promoted some of Shane-O's sounds to the "front page", so they're immediately clickable.

Comment by BobR on 04/14/2008 03:58:07
We now have a dedicated page for Shane-O's sound bits from the Stephanie Miller Show!!! Shane-O has uploaded his sounds, and will be maintaining that page, uploading the bits a week after they first appear on the show.

Temporarily, there is a link on the menu bar. Within the next day or so, we should have a real button there instead.

Woo-hoo!!

NEW EDITING BUTTONS:

For comments and blog posts, I've added a strikethru button. This provides strikethru text...

For blog posts only (for those that can/do create blog posts), I've added buttons for creating lists. You can create ordered lists (where the list items are numbered) or unordered lists (where the items have bullets). Each complete list needs an open and closing list tag, and each item needs a list item open and close tag.

Let me know if you need further clarification for either of these features...

I've added Hide/Show buttons to all of the panels on the left, so you can hide or show them without having to bring up the User Options screen...

The "roll up" feature will certainly come in handy on Saturdees. OY!
