Morning

Holy Cow!!! This doesn't seem too suspicious.

Morning.

Well, Monday took the Mrs to the eye doctor because she said she "couldn't see anything". Turns out that she was wearing the wrong glasses (distance only). Of course, she can't find the other 2 pairs she has that have progressive lenses. So she's getting new lenses.

I don't understand any of this "impeachment" talk. That's not going to do jackshit. The ENTIRE GOP leadership has to be linked to this and taken down. Or make "GOP" even more odious than "NSDAP". Or they'll just learn from their mistakes and do it again.

Fuck it.

The ref is making the call, yes, it is for going Godwin! We have a going Godwin penalty on the blog. 15 yards and a loss of down.

What I, Mondo mean by a Godwin violation. For those of you not familiar with Godwin's law.

Hmm apparently Giuliani is in town - why do I have a sneaking suspicion that he is going to be the new FBI Director. He's very loyal to tRump and we all know how tRump repays that.

I've had a sinking feeling for a while that he was not going to get caught at any, this is just cementing that feeling.

Its not normal, but there doesn't seem to be anyone in charge that will put country over party.

My money's on Scott Baio as the new FBI director.

All of this stinks like a pile of fish left on a pier in the sun for days.

C-Span's live stream of the Senate is open w/o paywall today.

Looks like they just finished up a vote on repealing Obama's regs on methane emissions, which failed 49-51.

Mitch McConnell's comments opening the Senate today about Comey's firing. He's stonewalling.

.... NOW, ON ONE FINAL MATTER, WHATEVER ONE THINKS THAT THE MANNER IN WHICH DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY HANDLED THE INVESTIGATION INTO SECRETARY CLINTON'S UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A PRIVATE SERVER AND HER MISHANDLING OF CLASSIFIED INFORMATION, IT IS CLEAR WHAT OUR DEMOCRATIC COLLEAGUES THOUGHT OF IT BOTH AT THAT TIME AND CONSISTENTLY THEREAFTER. LAST YEAR THE CURRENT DEMOCRATIC LEADER SAID IT APPEARED TO BE AN APPALLING ACT, ONE THAT HE SAID GOES AGAINST THE TRADITION OF PROSECUTORS AT EVERY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT. AND THE PRIOR DEMOCRATIC LEADER, WHEN I ASKED IF JAMES COMEY SHOULD RESIGN GIVEN HIS CONDUCT OF THE LEGISLATION, HE REPLIED OF COURSE. YES. IT'S ALSO CLEAR WHAT OUR DEMOCRATIC COLLEAGUES THINK OF THE MAN WHO EVALUATED MR. COMEY'S PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND CONCLUDED THAT THE BUREAU NEEDED A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP. THE DEMOCRATIC LEADER JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO PRAISED MR. ROSENSTEIN FOR HIS INDEPENDENCE AND SAID HE HAD DEVELOPED A REPUTATION FOR INTEGRITY THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE NOW, MR. PRESIDENT. OUR DEMOCRATIC COLLEAGUES COMPLAINING ABOUT THE REMOVAL OF AN F.B.I. DIRECTOR WHOM THEY THEMSELVES REPEATEDLY AND SHARPLY CRITICIZED. THAT REMOVAL BEING DONE BY A MAN, ROD ROSENSTEIN, WHO THEY REPEATEDLY AND EFFUSE CIVILLY PRAISED. MR. ROSENSTEIN RECOMMENDED MR. COMEY'S REMOVAL FOR MANY OF THE REASONS THEY CONSISTENTLY COMPLAINED ABOUT. TWO INVESTIGATIONS ARE CURRENTLY ONGOING. THE SENATE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE'S REVIEW OF RUSSIAN ACTIVE MEASURES AND INTELLIGENCE ACTIVITIES AND THE F.B.I. INVESTIGATION DISCLOSED BY DIRECTOR COMEY. TODAY WE'LL NO DOUBT HEAR CALLS FOR A NEW INVESTIGATION WHICH COULD ONLY SERVE TO IMPEDE THE CURRENT WORK BEING DONE TO NOT ONLY DISCOVER WHAT THE RUSSIANS MAY HAVE DONE; ALSO TO LET THIS BODY AND THE NATIONAL SECURITY COMMUNITY DEVELOP COUNTERMEASURES AND WAR-FIGHTING DOCTRINE TO SEE THAT IT DOESN'T OCCUR AGAIN. PARTISAN CALLS SHOULD NOT DELAY THE CONSIDERABLE WORK OF CHAIRMAN BURR AND VICE CHAIRMAN WARNER. TOO MUCH IS AT STAKE. DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL ROSENSTEIN WAS JUST CONFIRMED ON A BIPARTISAN VOTE 94-6. 94-6. AND THAT SORT OF FAIR CONSIDERATION SHOULD CONTINUE WHEN THE SENATE RECEIVES AN F.B.I. DIRECTOR NOMINEE. AS I SAID YESTERDAY, ONCE THE SENATE RECEIVES A NOMINATION TO FILL THIS POSITION, WE'LL LOOK FORWARD TO A FULL, FAIR, AND TIMELY CONFIRMATION PROCESS. THIS IS A CRITICAL ROLE THAT IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT AS OUR COUNTRY CONTINUES TO FACE SERIOUS THREATS AT HOME AND ABROAD.

Good morning, bloggers!!

I would argue that our system of government is facing its most serious test since the Nixon administration, if not since the Civil War.

If President Bill Clinton or President Barack Obama had fired an FBI director during an investigation of foreign influence on an election, the GOP would have called for impeachment and an immediate removal from office. I can only imagine what Rush Limbaugh and his ilk would say.

We must have the courage to hold firm, demanding an independent investigation. However, I fear that the GOP will not do anything save to block investigations. I doubt that many - if any of our GOP representatives and senators - will put country before party.

Who caught Malcolm Nance on Momma this morning? It's getting scary out there. The only thing that will save us is Trump's gross incompetence, but the GOP enabling will keep his ass out of the fire.

Hmm.. CNN supposedly reporting that Comey will not be testifying before the Senate tomorrow. Trying to find a confirmation..

I must concur. Although there are some differences in Trumpism and many forms of fascism (Trumpism does not really emphasize sacrifices by individuals for the good of the nation and really is less consistent that fascism.)

This afternoon I met the son of a holocaust survivor at a UCC meeting here in Alpharetta, GA.

HE compared what was happening here in our nation What happened in Germany,

His Mother was in the circle for the discussion.

I take the word of a Holocaust survivor and her son at face value.

I will as well, A few historians have noted some differences -- along with many parallels -- between Trumpism and different forms of fascism. However, I see more parallels than not. The processes of justice are unraveling and we have a leader who cares more about loyalty to him than to the nation and the rule of law.
