Patriotism is the Last Refuge of John McCain
Author: Raine    Date: 10/30/2008 12:22:09

Who is Rashid Khalidi? He is the newest boogyman name that John McCain is slinging around to incite hatred and fear from his supporters.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., did a live interview with Radio Mambi in Miami this morning in which he went after Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for his connections to a “PLO spokesman.”

McCain was referring to Rashid Khalidi, who, five years ago, Obama toasted at a going-away party before Khalidi headed off to New York City to become a professor at Columbia University.

In April, the Los Angeles Times’s Peter Wallsten wrote about the toast, saying a “special tribute came from Khalidi's friend and frequent dinner companion, the young state Sen. Barack Obama. Speaking to the crowd, Obama reminisced about meals prepared by Khalidi's wife, Mona, and conversations that had challenged his thinking.
[...]
“He is seen as a moderate in Palestinian circles, having decried suicide bombings against civilians as a ‘war crime’ and criticized the conduct of Hamas and other Palestinian leaders. Still, many of Khalidi's opinions are troubling to pro-Israel activists, such as his defense of Palestinians' right to resist Israeli occupation and his critique of U.S. policy as biased toward Israel.”

So why the sudden interest from John McCain? it is alleged that Bill Ayers was at that toast as well. Alleged by John McCain. This is a dangerously stupid road McCain is heading down. McCain was on the same board as Khalidi, and he donated about a half a million dollars to the IRI.

That isn't a bad thing in and of itself. However, when you couple it with a few other things in the McCain closet things look a little different. For Example: Iran Contra and Nazi Sympathizers, Reverend Hagee, who said that the Nazi's were sent to kill the Jews, His running mate has some anti-semite issues as well. And then there is Sam (aka Joe T. Plumber), who was proud to agree with a McCain supporter that Obama would bring certain death to Israel. Confused yet? is he pro-Israel or anti-Israel ? Well, I am not confused. This is not about Palestine OR Israel. This is about a man who will say anything to try paint his opponent in a bad light, even if it means trashing his own reputation, taking down his friends and business associates and maybe even his family -- who knows at this point? What I do know is that if this is how he will run the country, I say thanks, but no thanks. We have had 8 long tiring years of his ilk doing this to America. They divided us, they stole from us, they trashed our country -- all in the name of power and greed. John McCain has proven himself no different. The way a person runs a campaign is the clearest indicator of how they will run the office to which he aspires.

It's really pathetic from a man once called a war hero. In 1775, Samuel Johnson proclaimed "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel", and I am seeing that come to real fruition with these 2 people running on the GOP ticket. They have tried to take the pride and the joy of being an American into the mud, while stepping on it in order to win. They wave an American Flag and people cheer, and then they just keep flinging poo on ALL americans with insults and race baiting and xenophobia. Once again, they are fanning the flames of hatred and fear to people who don't seem to understand the situation. They hear PLO -- they boo. They hear Socialism, they boo, they hear terrorism, they boo. It doesn't seem to matter to McCain, Palin, his spokespeople or even his supporters what the truth is. They just want to see a happy American Flag and cheer-- anything less is to be hated, jeered and ostrocized. That is what John McCain has given to America: more seeds of hatred.

We only have a few more days. I watched Barack Obama last night and saw a man who was presidential. I was inspired, I felt nervous about the future but confident that in his hands, we can get America back on the path of righteousness. I watched John McCain on Larry King afterwards, and saw a sad pathetic shell of a man I once respected who sold his soul for a pocket of gold. He wanted this more than anything else and he did whatever it would take. It is hard to respect a person who disrespects not only Americans, but himself, and that is what he has become. A disrespectful human being.

In the end, I wish him well. I hope he returns to one of his many homes and finds a sense of peace within himself for what he has done to OUR country. But I don't feel bad -- he did this. The problem is he's just not responsible enough to be trusted anymore. It's up to us, the people who truly respect our country --- no matter the political affiliation, we are all citizens -- to clean this mess up.

I will stand by Barack Obama and every other fellow America to help do that. Yes. We. Can.

:peace: and
Raine

Morning, comrades.

Time for a quick quiz?

Take a look at this ad, airing for our neighbors in NH:

Answer these two questions:

Who is the Democrat?

Who is the Republican?

Why did no one tell Random that if you listen to steph stream before the show, you can hear the pre-game ball?

Comment by Raine on 10/30/2008 13:07:29
Tri... Wow... just... Wow.

you know, Sununnu should just leave his party at this point. Seriously.

I think America has an amazing opportunity because of this election year. We could REALLY have a third party. of course, it might not be the dream party of progressives, but the sad little GOP'rs who feel the party left them should go-- GO start a new party!

We could have the Republicnas, the libertarians, the Dems, the fundies, the neo connies... oh the possibilities are endless!

Exxon pulls biggest quarterly profit EVER.

Exxon Mobil shatters own record for largest profit from operations by a US corporation

HOUSTON (AP) -- Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's largest publicly traded oil company, reported income Thursday that shattered its own record for the biggest profit from operations by a U.S. corporation, earning $14.83 billion in the third quarter.

Bolstered by this summer's record crude prices, the Irving, Texas-based company said net income jumped nearly 58 percent to $2.86 a share in the July-September period. That compares with $9.41 billion, or $1.70 a share, a year ago.

Ya know, back during WWII, FDR imposed income caps, and massive war taxes so that everything corporate America was making went back into the coffers for the war effort.

Kinda think we need to do more of the same, only this time it should go back in the coffers to pay off the monstrous debt Herr Bush has left my great-grandchildren with.

See what she shoulda done is team up with Paris Hilton for the "Paris for President" video, maybe as the VP choice? That way you could theoretically say there was some slight bit of talent.

So anyway...I never got back to the blog last night; I was manning the phones. It was a great feeling to say "Hi, I'm the TriSec, and I'm with the Obama/Biden campaign...."

Anyway, I seemed to draw the list with the most voice mails. I actually only talked to 8 live persons last night.

We were calling to get more phone-bankers for the weekend, and of the 8 I talked to, 4 were already working with Move On, one was a resident alien, and the other 3 were ready to jump in, so I got them scheduled to make calls on Saturday and Sunday.

But what really amazed me was the organization. Our phone bank coordinator was expecting to be there until midnight; the campaign wants everything faxed back to Chicago HQ by midnight, and then they process the lists and turn out a new one by 8 am the following day.

Quite a machine, that Obama campaign.

I'm back on the phones Monday night, and I know we'll be calling NH to remind people to vote and maybe convince a few to go blue.

I liked the Update the best!

The Department of Justice will not require Ohio to disclose the names of voters whose registration applications did not match other government databases, according to two people familiar with discussions between state and federal lawyers.

The decision comes about a week after an unusual request from President Bush asking the department to investigate the matter and roughly two weeks after the Supreme Court dismissed a case involving the flagged registration applications.

Federal law requires states to verify voter registration applications with a government database like those used for driver’s licenses or Social Security cards. Names that do not match are flagged for further verification. But the law provides little guidance on how these flagged registrations should be handled and discrepancies corrected.

Ohio Republicans had sought the lists to challenge voters, but the Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat, refused the request, saying that numerical errors or misspellings are the probable reason for most of the discrepancies.

Great post Raine, yes, when all all fails, yell "I'm a Patriot" and throw everything but the kitchen sink at your opponent.

I had a very interesting night last night. I met someone who just moved to town last week, who I met 25 years ago, briefly, when she taught a Master Class at my school! I still remember that class and her. She was most impressed. (I am as well, Velveeta not being so good with the whole "memory" thing).

Anyway, I hope to have dinner with her tomorrow and catch up. I love it when people come back into your life.
