It's often said that the United States is a nation of immigrants. The Statue of Liberty and its attached poem are testaments to that. Unless you are 100% Native American, you or some or all of your ancestors came from a "foreign" country. Our blog diva is 2nd generation German. I have several ancestral lines from the mid 1800s, and others that go back much deeper (1600s). I have ancestors who fought (for the North) in the Civil War, and in WWI.

The current occupant of the White House is 1st generation American on his mother's side, and 2nd generation on his father's side. Considering he is literally the child of immigrants, you'd think he'd have more understanding and empathy for current immigrants. Sadly, we know he has no empathy for anybody, and cares little for the struggle of anyone who doesn't spend their waking hours praising him. His condemnation of all immigrants (and refugees) from south of the border is well known. He's also stated he doesn't want anyone immigrating from "shithole" countries (translation: non-white).

So it shouldn't come as a shock that he wants to eject foreign students if they are learing 100% online, because he figures they can do that from their own country:

One of the benefits of allowing students to come to the U.S. to attend prestigious universities is that we are getting the "best and brightest" from other countries. They will likely develop roots and eventually become U.S. citizens. These are the people who will make America Great again; these are the ones who tRump ostensibly has said we want here. Pushing them out means they will use the U.S. to further their education, and use that knowledge to improve life in their home country, to the detriment of the U.S.

The other aspect lost here is that there is more to learn when attending a foreign university than just what is taught in the classroom. There is the immersive language experience, something that is very difficult to replicate. There are the finer details of culture. There is the mixing pot of human colors and customs. Foreign students aren't just the best and the brightest - they will be living with and interacting with the best and the brightest from other countries and U.S. students. It's a free public relations godsend.

This coronavirus has killed a lot of people and crippled our economy. Now tRump is using it to kill our future in a vain attempt to "Keep America White". His bumbling of the pandemic continues to hurt this country in unexpected ways.
