It's often said that the United States is a nation of immigrants. The Statue of Liberty and its attached poem are testaments to that. Unless you are 100% Native American, you or some or all of your ancestors came from a "foreign" country. Our blog diva is 2nd generation German. I have several ancestral lines from the mid 1800s, and others that go back much deeper (1600s). I have ancestors who fought (for the North) in the Civil War, and in WWI.

The current occupant of the White House is 1st generation American on his mother's side, and 2nd generation on his father's side. Considering he is literally the child of immigrants, you'd think he'd have more understanding and empathy for current immigrants. Sadly, we know he has no empathy for anybody, and cares little for the struggle of anyone who doesn't spend their waking hours praising him. His condemnation of all immigrants (and refugees) from south of the border is well known. He's also stated he doesn't want anyone immigrating from "shithole" countries (translation: non-white).

So it shouldn't come as a shock that he wants to eject foreign students if they are learing 100% online, because he figures they can do that from their own country:
International students who are pursuing degrees in the United States will have to leave the country or risk deportation if their universities switch to online-only courses, Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Monday.

The move may affect thousands of foreign students who come to the United States to attend universities or participate in training programs, as well as non-academic or vocational studies.

Universities nationwide are beginning to make the decision to transition to online courses as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. At Harvard, for example, all course instruction will be delivered online, including for students living on campus. For international students, that opens the door to them having to leave the US.

One of the benefits of allowing students to come to the U.S. to attend prestigious universities is that we are getting the "best and brightest" from other countries. They will likely develop roots and eventually become U.S. citizens. These are the people who will make America Great again; these are the ones who tRump ostensibly has said we want here. Pushing them out means they will use the U.S. to further their education, and use that knowledge to improve life in their home country, to the detriment of the U.S.

The other aspect lost here is that there is more to learn when attending a foreign university than just what is taught in the classroom. There is the immersive language experience, something that is very difficult to replicate. There are the finer details of culture. There is the mixing pot of human colors and customs. Foreign students aren't just the best and the brightest - they will be living with and interacting with the best and the brightest from other countries and U.S. students. It's a free public relations godsend.

This coronavirus has killed a lot of people and crippled our economy. Now tRump is using it to kill our future in a vain attempt to "Keep America White". His bumbling of the pandemic continues to hurt this country in unexpected ways.

Morning

Just when you think they can't be worse human beings, they get worse.

Greetings, comrades.

Now I'm playing the game. Today, I go back to Boston to get back in the system and start getting ready to give trolley tours. But tomorrow, I go to Sudbury to get my CORI process started and get information about obtaining my School Bus endorsement, and start getting ready to drive school buses.

It's anyone's guess which will work out to my advantage right now, but since I haven't signed anything at either locale, neither is a burned bridge as of this writing.

I also plan on signing up for the Trump Rally in NH soon. There's another effort to "Tik-Tok" it like Tulsa. I have a couple of long-disused email addresses out there, and I'll also use a Rude Pundit trick and sign up a bogus address so that all their mailers get returned to sender at their expense.

Good morning, bloggers!!! I hope that you are doing well.

I have spent some time correcting some members of my Mom's family on their memes on Facebook. I countered some with facts that they ignored, and actually reported false facts and one post for what I saw as racism. (A meme that one used was of Leonardo DiCaprio laughing and the caption "They shoot each other and then say Black Lives Matter. I reported that one for racism.)

I fear that we cannot reason with the hard core Trump supporters. They need someone to hate -- immigrants and foreigners, racial and religious minorities, the LGBTQ community, and anyone who does not agree with them. So, I banned that relative by marriage from my Facebook account. Sometimes, all you can do with negative people is block them.

If Trump is defeated in November, we will have to be wary as some of his followers may well resort to violence. We will have a challenge in trying to undo the damage of Trump and reuniting this country.

Tammy Duckworth is impressive. I heard her speak as I volunteered to go door to door for her campaign. She rallied the people at her office and everyone looked forward to a long day of campaigning. She gave that speech from her wheel chair.

Tucker Carlson, who looks like a rejected villain from a Dick Tracy comic strip, has no honor. It is as American as the Boston Tea Party to disagree with leaders.

Here is the story that Steph just mentioned: From CNN, Supreme Court says Trump can weaken Obamacare contraceptive mandate.

(CNN)The Supreme Court on Wednesday cleared the way for the Trump administration to expand exemptions for employers who have religious or moral objections to complying with the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive mandate.

The 7-2 ruling reverses a lower court decision that had blocked Trump's move nationwide.

The ruling is a win for President Donald Trump, who has vowed to act aggressively to protect religious liberty as well as the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Roman Catholic religious order for women who, along with the Trump administration, asked the Court to step in.

The case required the justices to balance concerns for women's health care against claims of religious liberty. The law requires that employer-provided health insurance plans cover birth control as a preventive service at no cost.

Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman is retiring from the U.S. military. From CNN:

(CNN)Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a key witness in President Donald Trump's impeachment inquiry, is retiring from the US Army after more than 21 years of military service because he determined that his future in the armed forces "will forever be limited" due to political retaliation by the President and his allies, his lawyer told CNN Wednesday.

Vindman has endured a "campaign of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation" spearheaded by the President following his testimony in the impeachment inquiry last year, according to his attorney, Amb. David Pressman.

News of Vindman's retirement marks the culmination of a months-long saga dating back to his public testimony in November.

Trump fired Vindman as the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council in February and also ousted his twin brother who also played a key role in impeachment proceedings while serving at the White House as an NSC lawyer.

The decisions today are literally about the same thing, yet have two wildly different outcomes. You can't allow special treatment from the government in regards to religious institutions on one hand, and then the next moment claim the government doesn't have that power.

Both decisions are purely political and use totally ridiculous reasoning. I'm honestly amazed that both of them are 7-2.

Ha!

An old friend of mine retired to Florida more than a decade ago. His FB posts intersperse with living the good life, and showing his fishing boat and him drinking beer, and also wearing a MAGA hat, stroking his assault weapon, and posting right-wing screeds.

He's just posted that he's here in Massachusetts for a while - he was visiting some friends on Nantucket.

I thought Florida had the virus under control and it was a liberal hoax?
