May I see your library card?
Author: BobR    Date: 11/09/2007 12:47:01

I read a news story yesterday that got me thinking (not unusual, but stay with me on this). According to this story, over 80,000 artifacts have gone missing from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library:
WASHINGTON -- The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is unable to find or account for tens of thousands of valuable mementos of Reagan's White House years because a "near universal" security breakdown left the artifacts vulnerable to pilfering by insiders, an audit by the National Archives inspector general has concluded.

Inspector General Paul Brachfeld said that his office was investigating allegations that a former employee stole Reagan memorabilia but that the probe had been hampered by the facility's sloppy record-keeping.

Savor that for a moment... close your eyes... Let it roll around on your tongue...

Which party identifies itself as the anti-terrorism party?... Why - the Republican party, of course! Which party says THEY'RE the ones that will keep you safe?... Why - the Republican party, of course! Which party tried to resurect Reagan's ghost as they held their first debate at the same Reagan Presidential Library that has managed to let more than 80,000 thousand artifacts walk out the door?...

Perhaps a reminder is in order:

So the party which identifies itself as being the one to keep America safe can't even maintain the security of the library of its number one hero. Perhaps they should be more concerned about library cards than they are about green cards.

The best part is they think that most of the thefts are likely from employees of the library. Considering the Republican's vote pandering scandals, the Abramoff scandal, and the no-bid cost-plus military contracts, this seems even more apropos. Stealing from their employers (the American People) just seems to be part of their DNA.

Happy Friday, everyone! :bouncer:

Morning, comrades!

Hell, we keep better track of things in the Scout Room...I know where every pot, pan, and utensil is supposed to be.

Anyway...

Got a question for the assorted blogosphere. My team needs a 'morning saying'. We have a daily overview of what's happening and what needs to get done every day. Lately, I've been ending the week with the old Morning Sedition "Let's land this thing, Riley".

Folks want the "let's be careful out there" mantra, but I think that's overkill for the office. I, of course, have suggested "Vigilance!", but that's gone over like a Lead Zeppelin...

We're heading towards "Sacagawea!" at this rate.

Huh! What? Oh! Morning.

My drive to work this morning was a wonderful opportunity to catch up on 2 things; crying and yelling. Every report broadcast regarding Pakistan, and more to the point Benizar Bhutto, had my eyes welling up in awe of the bravery of 1 women and those who look to her to lead them. She had the courage to speak in the face of police barricades and their riot gear, surrounding her home. Amazing.

The yelling was a reaction to the story that Angela Merkel will be at "the ranch" today and the topic of conversation will be Tehran. This led me to, by myself in the privacy of my car, scream my frustration. "Why is Iran all of a sudden the number 1 problem??? Maybe the number 1 problem is YOU [George Bush]."

All in all it was a cathartic commute.

Hey Raine...I tried to watch the videos you posted yesterday. But, when I got home at 12:00 last night, the blog wouldn't show all the comments from the day. There is no "Show All Comments" option

Is there some way around that?

Never mind that it's the home of that famous liberal bastion, Harvard College. (George Bush, Alumni, BTW)

So how do you explain this?

Just read this... tell me what you think...

REPORTER: Mr. President, you came down so hard on Burma and other nations for their crackdowns on pro-democracy demonstrators, yet you seem to be giving Musharraf a pass. So, the question is: Why are you going so soft on Musharraf? Is there a double-standard?

BUSH: I spoke to President Musharraf right before I came over here to visit President Sarkozy, and, uh, my message was that we believe strongly--in elections, and you ought to have elections soon. And you need to take off your uniform.

You can't be the president and the head of the military at the same time.

So I had a very frank discussion with him. Look: Our objective is the same in Burma as it is in Pakistan, and that is to promote democracy. There is a difference, however: Pakistan has been on the path to democracy. Burma hadn't been on the path to democracy, and it requires different tactics to achieve the common objective. And, uh, as I told you, I just spoke to President Musharraf before I came here and my message was very plain, very easy to understand, and that is: "The United States wants you to have the elections as scheduled, and take your uniform off."

I KNEW you would point that out. You are SO predictable...

Yes, I know that Kanji is Chinese, that the Japanese borrowed the written Kanji from the Chinese, then added 1 additional alphabet for Japanese phonetics not covered by the Chinese Kanji, then added another alphabet for non-Japanese phonetics... I also know that Korean uses a simpler pictogram alphabet that is more akin to regular letters, and that VietNam didn't have a written language until French colonization, which is why it looks like French....

What would Lou Dobbs say???

Yeah, too bad that Korean doesn't use Kanji.

So there. :nerd:

Thanks for playing there, Bobber. There is no such thing as Chinese Kanji. Kanji is one form of creating sylabic charaters for Japanese. Korean, written Korean uses a system called Kangul if I remember correctly. as for the Vietmanese, they used to use the Chinese ideograms before the French showed up. See cause Vietnam was under Chinese rule for a while there.

The estate tax...
We do have a tax on wealthy estates. In fact, only one-half of one percent of estates payanything in America. That is the truth. It’s not a death tax. There is a tax on wealthy estates. In fact, under current law a couple can shield $4 million before paying any estate tax. Undercurrent law, that will increase to $7 million in 2009.

And now a handful of very wealthy families have spent $200 million over the last severalyears trying to convince the American people there is a death tax. One of my colleagues just had a baggage handler at an airport stop him and tell him, please repeal that death tax. Well, that gentleman, unless he’s won the lottery, need not fear the estate tax because it doesn’t apply to virtually anyone. Only one-half of one percent of estates pay it.

Pakistan has material for approximately 60 nuclear weapons.

This is highly-enriched uranium an the "gun assembly" to create a critical mass just like the Little Boy, circa 1945.

Of course, Pakistan has gone nuts.

Al-Qaeda, and Osama bin Laden, are based in Pakistan. No word on where the nukes are stored, but it would be remarkably easy for a bomb to "change hands" in the chaos right now.

Since there hasn't been a long night of drinking and smoking, I don't think we need to worry about her showing up at Boarder's in her thong and Hello Kitty tshirt. After she is mom to be!

Sorry biys... no boobies... you have to buy Hustler for that.

A former New Orleans prostitute who will be featured in Larry Flynt's Hustler magazine appeared at his office Tuesday to accuse Sen. David Vitter of having a sexual relationship with her in 1999. Wendy Ellis told reporters that Vitter visited her two to three times a week for sexual relations between July and November 1999.

b....b....bbbbbut.... John *gibtard* gibson says homelessness is over!

On yet another front, a published report today said that homelessness is virtually over. People may have crushing mortgages, but they have homes.

So all in all, the war is going in our favor. Proof of that is that Democrats have shut up about it. Bush has made sure you have a job, and this economy has insured you have a home.
