If the President does it, it's legal.
Author: Raine    Date: 12/22/2008 13:32:48

Say what?
All of President Bush's actions during his years as a wartime leader were done with full legal authority, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Fox News Sunday.

Asked by Chris Wallace if it's legal when the president makes a decision to help the country when it's fighting a war, Cheney said, "As a general proposition, I'd say yes."
Interesting that we found this to be almost the same when Richard Nixon claimed: “when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal.” We never truly got the chance to find out because he was pardoned without out ever being charged with a crime. Dick worked in that White House as well... strange coincidence.

The problem with this notion is not just the hubris, it is the notion that as long as a country is in a perpetual state of war, the Office of President of the United States is above the rule of law, and it is that very idea that Dick Cheney is proposing that is inherently UNconstitutional. The US of America was never meant to exist in a perpetual state of war in order to give the office of President unlimited power. Nowhere in the Constitution does it give the President the power to suspend the rule of law. You see, that was kinda the idea of the United States of America... rule of law, and the flaven... for the people by the people blah blah, blah...

Article Two of the United States Constitution, Section 4 states that "The President, Vice President, and all other civil Officers of the United States shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors." The House of Representatives has the sole power of impeaching, while the United States Senate has the sole power to try all impeachments. The removal of impeached officials is automatic upon conviction in the Senate.[Source],

Not only is Tricky Dick II trying to rewrite history, he is explicitly redefining the Constitution. Not to split hairs here, but the United States is not at war. We are involved in a Military Action. Article 1, Section 8 gives congress the power to declare war. No such thing ever happened... so even if Tricky Dick V.2 was correct about the President being above the law during times of war... he would be WRONG again. I shouldn't be shocked, HE doesn't even know to what branch of the Government he is a part of. Funny that he would know what is legal and what isn't... (is Dick a constitutional lawyer like our President Elect?)

I know we have a few weeks left of these lying, thieving bastards, but it is things like this that just make my blood boil. It's insulting and traitorous in my opinion to treat the American people with such disdain that you would lie right to our faces.

I can handle controversy, I can handle disagreements, but the abject disdain for our Constitution that Dick Cheney has is - in my opinion - a high crime.

I take solace that we have an incoming administration that will actually respect the Constitution, and will try to do the right thing... I take little comfort (altho some smugness) in reminding people that thanks to *ush and Cheney and the people who enabled these GWOT policies to happen, Barack Obama has far more power than any other president in the history of our country. I hope all the people who rah-rahed *ush and Dick and the War on Terrah™ realize that they brought this on. If they thought NSA spying on Americans was GREAT for the past 8 years, they should be ready to LOVE it for the next 8 right?

Somehow I doubt it. Traitors rarely use logic, they just blindly follow the leader without thinking. *ush did for 8 years with Dick, as did 19% of America.

:peace: and
Raine
