Is Giddy Contagious?
Author: wickedpam    Date: 05/06/2009 12:27:41

As a DC Metro local I have the opportunity to hear local radio while in my car commuting to and from work. I think I listen to two of the more popular stations, one for music (107.3) and the other for what they call “guy talk” (106.7). Over the past 3½ months I’ve heard more then one DJ mention how great it is to live in DC right now. Their positively giddy when they say it.

Now I can’t speak to what other stations DJ’s are saying I don’t listen to them, but I love how the hope and fun just ooze out of the radio of these two stations when talking about certain aspects of living here. The reason for the love fest? President Obama.

Their attitude is simply reflective of how the rest of the nation is feeling. On his 100th day in office Presidents Job approval rating according to Gallup. Since taking office it’s only wavered between 61%-67%. I suppose part of that is the normal “honeymoon” period where we’re still all in love with our candidate. And that’s okay. Let’s roll with it.

It’s not to say we aren’t still worried about stuff, the economy leading the way. But right now we feel like we’ve put our worries in some capable hands. Who doesn’t want to feel like someone out there can truly help lighten our load even just a little.

But I think its stories like

Obama goes to Hell and back, all for a burger

President Obama's motorcade slipped out of the White House complex at 12:26 p.m. Tuesday, crossed the Potomac River into Arlington, Va., and came to a stop five minutes later at Ray's Hell-Burger, an independent prime-beef burger joint where you order at the counter, sit at wooden tables and pay $6.95 for a burger.

Or the ones about Bo, the new puppy. Or the ones about the play set built at the White House for the Presidential Girls near the Oval Office. Or the ones about the White House vegetable garden. Or the ones about the kindness of the First Lady. Or the ones about the First Mother-Law living in the White House. Or the warm welcome we now receive when traveling aboard. I could go on and one, but these “feel good” stories are permeating the usually stayed and stiff feeling DC can have.

Its nice to have the fog of depression lift with the giddiness of hope.
