The Losey Awards
Author: Raine    Date: 12/31/2007 13:22:38

After tonite, 2007 will be just a memory. It is hard to believe that this is the end of this calendar. Time to start a new one.

We have a lot to do in 2008. I myself will be actively participating in getting a democrat elected to office. But before we say goodbye to this year. I would like to give you my list of the biggest dolt's and loser's of the year.

The Finalists:

Alberto Gonzales: For doing nothing in the justice department that could even be considered legal, and instead using the department as George Bush's secretary pool. The man should still go to jail for what he did.

Larry Craig: Entertaining, but still, I mean, come one... He is the leader of turning the GOP in the Gay Old Party. Larry led the charge of so many gay sex scandals this year, including State Rep. Bob Allen, State Rep Richard Curtis, GOP county Chair Green bay Wisconsin, Donald Fleischman, and Glenn Murphy Jr, National Chairman of the Young Republicans

George Bush: for treating the entire world like a bunch of idiots. Oh wait, I guess he is just talking to us the best way he can. Also for not reading the Constitution. Oh and for lying about Iran. And for lying about Iraq. And for lying about FISA, and awww, hell... it is a new year... I will take it easy on him for this one day. At least he got rid of Turblossom, aka, the Vote Cager...

The 25% of people who still support George Bush: Sorry friends. But I think these people would support him if HE ran a dog fighting ring. All he'd have to do is call it waterboarding.

Michael Vick: For throwing everything away. What a waste. Maybe he should have used the waterboarding defense. He could have had those 25% of bush supporter's on his side.

... but the Winner of the Losiest is.....
The Pentagon:

this is a partial list, and these are some of the more heinous actions from the department that brought us the gay bomb...
  • For asking soldiers to repay the enlistment bonuses;

  • For sending the longest Serving National Guard Unit home after 729 days of combat--- ONE DAY shy of the 730 that they needed to qualify for education Benefits;

  • For omitting 20,000 cases of brain injuries from the casualty count on Iraq;

  • For denial of medical benefits to 22,000 Veterans that suffer from POST-traumatic Stress Disorder by discharging them for enlisting with "pre-existing personality Disorders".

So that is it, the last monday of the year, our last blog entry of the year. Be safe time tonite! if you are gonna drive, don't drink and you are gonna drink, don't drive!

As always, and :heart:
Raine

Good morning all. Just a quick hit and run before I head to the Doctor's office. Blood Sugar numbers have been iffy, so the only question has been my weight.

I definitely need motivation. Too bad I don't cook so I end up eating out alot. I also think I need to get a normal schedule so I have meals at regular hours which I don't get in my current situation. So, I have many obstacles to overcome.

Cooking helps, but I do a lot of those bag salads from costco for lunch. It's all portion control for me and trying to leave out candy - I have a weakness for sugar. Been doing the Weight Watchers and have lose 25lbs so far.

Night schedules are hard but if you take a "lunch/dinner" then it can be managed. That plus walking or working out or just moving for at least 10-15 minutes a day.

You can do I know you can! :hug:

I'll be floating around too. I haven't gone out on New Year's Eve the last few years opting to be a homebody. Usually there's some good marathons on the Tube, although I do miss WSBK's Three Stooges marathon when I used to get that station.

Back from the fire! Sadly, the home was a total loss. But we (Red Cross) are assisting the family. I will now need a shower so my wife will allow me into the same room (smell of smoke, not the good kind).

I think we'll be staying home tonight, watching some movies. I have "Sunset Blvd" from Netflix and our cable company has graced us with a freebie "Movie on Demand" that I must use soon, or lose it. Tonight seems as good as any.

Happy New Year To All!!! I wanted to talk a little about diabetes. I have been a insulin dependent diabetic since I was around 10y/o . Even though many things have changed since then long acting insulins, fact acting for 20 min. before a meal. Sharper smaller gauge needles,much better testing equip. When I first started all you could do was pardon the details but you had to check your urine with a dipstick and it was usually not very accurate. Now you can know in 5 sec. what your sugar is and if it is 250 or over you pretty much know you have ketones in your urine which is not good. I check my sugar 4 times a day this is the best way I can suggest really staying on top of it. Of course things are better at the Dr. getting your A1C checked every 3 months will tell the real truth about what you have been doing the last 12 weeks. I also know that weight is a terrible issue all insulin and oral drugs to treat diabetes make weight loss harder. Insulin is really tough it grabs on to fat in your body like a drowning man to a life ring. In closing be it Type 1 or 2 it still will kill you. People still think its just high sugar yes but that blood runs all through your body. My dad is blind and has lost a leg and diabetes has destroyed his heart. And then one of the worst daily things neuropathy mine is in my feet it is a burn that can't be stopped and there are really no meds that help. To everyone that is touched by this life altering disease lets all hope and pray that one day no one suffers and they can cure it or at least help ease some of the side effects. And know that sweets are far from your only enemy every calorie will raise your sugar and that my friends is a hard one to figure out day after day. Sorry for being so long but it seems like people have this or know someone that does. Thanks, and good luck with this as well as any hea lth problem. Don't forget those yearly eye checks much can be done if caught early. Also neuropathy can happen anywhere you have nerve endings.

I think WSBK still does it. I just don't get the station anymore. Unless you live in the Boston area, have Dish Network, or live in Canada, there aren't many ways to get it anymore.

But WPIX still does The Honeymooners marathon starting at Midnight.

Thanks for your comments MMB! My wife has diabetes in her family and I think she is prone to it. Not sure.......

But now I am going to ask her and find out. She has been struggling some with her weight since she had to take meds with steriods a while back (for her arthitis). She's off now, but still stuggles with the weight. And I am no help to her since I can gain and lose pretty quickly when I want to.

Life is good when you decide to let your *problems* become your challenges, and then, you decide to overcome those challenges. All ya gotta do, is live. It isn't easy, but it is simple! (back to painting)

Comment by TriSec on 12/31/2007 20:13:32
Ah...diabetes.

My father was diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes at age 23 in 1957 (By Uncle Sam, no less.)

Fortunately, we are blessed with the best of them all here in Boston at the Joslin Diabetes Center. He was recently awarded his "50-year" medal...which all Joslin patients receive if they live 50 years after diagnosis. We were just talking about this...like dad said, all the musicians and Scouters I know with this that didn't last too long....

But Pops is still going strong and still pretty damn healthy. <--thanking a deity.

WSBK - Three Stooges marathon starting at 8pm.

This is New England; tradition trumps all else.

And I'm glad to see the Honeymooners still on WPIX...I used to watch them at 11:30 every night while I was in college, waiting for the midnight Trek showings.

Bang! Zoom!!! To the moon, Alice!

Comment by livingonli on 12/31/2007 20:55:13
The old WPIX late night lineup of The Odd Couple, The Honeymooners, Star Trek, and the Twilight Zone. Although, during part of that period I could also see Twilght Zone and Star Trek commercial-free on Scranton's PBS station WVIA which used to also be on my cable system.

When I first got my own TV, my biggest kick was being able to pick up distant TV stations when the right weather conditions existed. And when we first got cable, I enjoyed being able to watch channels like WTBS and WSBK plus the other stations that were carried over the years. And then when I had the Dishes up in my apartment, I did have the Superstation package which got me back WSBK plus KTLA from Los Angeles plus network feeds from other cities. Too bad I couldn't keep the dishes up when the landlady redid the roofing since those were the things I missed. Since TBS is no longer a Superstation but a cable network, the only out-of-town signal I still have is the syndex-free copyright modified Superstation Feed of WGN.

TriSec, That really is a blessing about your dad! My dad had to retire from his job at Moody Air Force base in Valdosta Ga. He had diabetes since he was a kid but it was never diagnosed until he had already done 4 years in the AF. He is 71 and sadly has been in a nursing home since 05. My mom and brother have type 2. Joslin is the most advanced center in every way. Velveeta if anyone in a persons family has it that family member is much more likely to get it. My and dad came as kids but my brother and mom got it in middle age. The test are not as bad as they were,still lots of blood drawn and drink the sweet syrup but they usually diagnose it quickly. It took 3 years in the 60's to find my dads. The biggest sympton I ever had was the unquenchable thirst and tired a lot. But many people have little to no signs. It is worth it to be safe rather than sorry. Thanks for the discussion guys and i hope everyone has a really great NEW YEAR!!!!!

Comment by TriSec on 01/01/2008 05:04:13
Well...it's 2008. Let's be careful out there.

MSNBC said the sweetest thing possible earlier today..."Tomorrow is the first day of Bush's last year in office..."

Anyway, keep the faith!

Comment by MMB on 01/01/2008 05:13:37
TriSec, That is great about your dad!! Joslin is really the best in all ways. My dad went through 4 years in the Air Force as a fireman and 8 at Moody AFB in Valdosta before he got diagnosed. When they finally found it he was already facing a lot of problems. He is 71 and has been sick all of my 47 years. In a nursing home for 3. My mom and brother got type 2 in middle age. I guess that is one reason I am so quick to ask people if they have any family history so many people are walking around being damaged w/o knowing it. My dads mom also went blind and she lost both legs before she was 70. She had pretty good control but it wasn't enough. Velveeta yes your wife should get checked please if its in anyones family just keep up with your own health. some people have no history. I guess my worse symptom was a never ending thirst and being tired. So good luck to her and Dad TriSec good work!! Lets hope we all stay as healthy as possible in 08. Take care And HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!!!!
