Hi, bloggers!!! I hope that everyone is well.

I would argue that Iowa is seeing its relevance fade as demographic changes occur in America.

This just in : part of the fast-track approval process for the TPP has been defeated by the House, but the main part of the bill has passed. It will be going back to the Senate for a reconciliation vote.

Rachel's been going off on how the GOP is pissed at Fox News at narrowing the crazy bus to 10 candidates for the debate in August, and not just because it could screw up those who are in the running to bump up their speaker fees.

Okay, an explanation..

There were two major votes - one for the full fast-track authority bill, and one for additional legislation (not sure if it's a separate bill or an amendment) called 'Trade Adjustment Assistance' (TAA) which would have helped workers displaced by the trade deal with paid retraining & job placement.

The Senate approved the bill with TAA included. The House voted that part down, but approved of the rest of the bill. So now the entire bill goes back to the Senate for a reconciliation vote, but it's doubtful the bill will be re-passed without that assistance package.

So it's essentially dead. Unless the Senate changes its mind, or the House re-votes on TAA and passes it.
