Mondo's Mondee Morning Musing
Author: Mondobubba    Date: 10/29/2007 12:19:50

Back when I was a young Mondo, I had a big time fascination with all things war. Tanks, guns, small arms, uniforms all that jazz. I was a big time military history buff. I still am, but since after about the age of sixteen the need to get laid was greater, I had to tone this stuff down. I still am really fascinated by the military history to this day. There is a lot of it and some of it is very important.

Unlike many of my liberal pals, I believe in a strong military. We need to have that ability to project force and protect American interests overseas. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a raving militarist, just a guy who sees a need for a standing army ready to do its thing at a moment’s notice. We need these people with the special training and disciple to do these things we don’t really want to think about.

When I was in Alabama at the beginning of the month, we were only mere miles from Fort Benning, Georgia. So we decided to make a trip to the Infantry Museum there. The first thing I noticed about our new look military, was the folks guarding the main gate were not eager young MPs, they were civilian contractors. You see all the MPs are overseas. In Iraq. Or they are in the reserves who if they are. Anyway no soldiers there; as a mater of fact, soldiers are pretty thin on the ground there period. There we a few folks in uniform at the Museum. It is a nice little one at that, good displays; lots of stuff to see from the founding of the US Army until the Waronterra and everything in between. As we looked at the displays from the Waronterra we noticed that there was a very subtle conflation of 911 and shenanigans in Iraq. Strike two for the new look military. As Mort Milfington (look it up!) Shameful! Ignominious! Surprisingly, there was not a third strike.

Do I have a point here? Yes the point is don’t hate on the Army because it is the Army. They have a job to do to do and up until Bush’s folly they did it very well. You might not like what they are trained to do, but they are part of the modern world. We used to have the best trained, best motivated, best educated most professional army in the world. I say used to because the war is breaking the back of the Army. The recruiting standards are lower. People with criminal records are getting into the ranks. The Army has lost its way thanks to Bush and Rummy. We can have once what we had again. We need to stop this madness.

Mondo, out!

Morning, Mondo (and other folks)... :coffee:

Morning, comrades!

I've decided that the Sox winning last night is part of a much larger disturbance of the space-time continuum. It's the only explanation for that sort of thing.

Your Loyal TriSec hereby apologizes for any and all mobius loops, temporal anomalies, and other such disturbances to the fabric of space.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled blogging.

Ah, Mondo.

I still sit in awe at my now 86 year old great-uncle's knee to listen to the stories from the Pacific Theater.

My big thing is how the military has been emasculated, particularly in the 'liberal' areas of the country. The Mass 102nd ANG wing, those F-15s that were over NYC on 9/11, doesn't exist anymore, and the entire Northeast is currently sitting undefended.

I don't have to tell everyone of my love of aviation and everything and anything with wings...but now we've reached the point that military aircraft over this part of the country is so rare and unusual that should I see one, I'm immediately running for the teevee to see what the hell is going on.

Although this is more the neo-con plan to gain control of the Middle East so that we can dictate oil prices than actually trying to stop terrorism. That's why terrorism has multiplied since Bush declared war on it.

Another thing he's a succss at...not.

We did have our opening on Thursday!

It went well....the audience loved "Ida" played by yours truly.

Yesterday was the Blue Hair Matinee and while one of the other actors was waiting backstage he heard one of the women in the front row say "The little maid is so funny." Gotta love the old ladies who talk at the theater.

Right now, Putin may be the only likely candidate to call us out. Although the Chinese can call us to the carpet just by forcing us to pay the debt we owe them. We would be bankrupt before you know it.

Wilson Angers Foxers Over O'Reilly Remarks - 10/26 - From Big Head DC: Brian Wilson (right), the chief of the Fox News DC bureau, is getting flak from his network after saying that he believes the reason Fox often receives criticism for being conservatively-biased is because of the opinions of hosts like Bill O'Reilly. "Bill O’ Reilly is not a journalist; it is an opinion-based program," Wilson told a Texas Tech audience on Thursday. "I think we get unfairly smeared because of Bill O'Reilly... I don't agree with half of what he says, but that is what characterizes Fox News." Upon learning of Wilson's words, a Fox News source told BHDC: "The Fox News newsroom is buzzing over Wilson's foolish remarks.... What an embarrassment. He should be crawling under a table right now. It should be interesting to see how the big guns in New York will react to this." BHDC wonders: Could Wilson’s job be in peril for speaking his mind? Stay tuned.....

Quote by starling310: Why do people that are against a "Fairness Doctrine" always argue with talk radio examples? Talk Radio isn't trying to pass itself off for news. No one is trying to say that Bill-O and his ilk cannot say this thing or the other. But, if you call it fact and SELL it as fact, it should be fact! IDIOT!
Talk radio scares teh hell out of these people.

I agree that it's good to have both sides. But, getting out and spewing outright lies? Isn't that wrong?

Really?

Hmm...

I am working from home as we speak and can still stream.

Do you have a different laptop for work and home? Maybe do a router instead. . . then you could have both running at once. "Party On! Excellent!"

Comment by starling310 on 10/29/2007 17:15:05
That is a "Virtual Private Network."

;)

Comment by BobR on 10/29/2007 17:17:30
VPN = Virtual Private Network.

It means that I am essentially connected directly to work's network, and access the internet by going through work's firewall/proxy server.

It seems to cause problems with my WMP.

FWIW - I do have a laptop and a router. I also have a "roommate" ( ) with a PC that listens to Thom and she could just turn her volume up a little... :P

Thom is talking about Ritual Defamation and the act of discussing someone's character instead of discussing about the issue.

This is the point I was trying to make on the Discussion Board the other day about the word Swiftboat. We could debate all day about the use of a word, but that's 1 day less we could spend trying to resolve an actual issue!

I don't think using the word Swiftboat was an issue. I think debating for 2/3 of the topic was. It wasn't the word that you wanted to debate. It was the tactic. And, that got lost by focusing on 1 word.

To answer your question, though, I don't think using another word would've helped. It goes to what Thom is saying; there are people out there who, not matter what word you use, will debate everything BUT the actual topic.

With great ceremonial pomp, we made the rounds of all our departed relatives and placed a Red Sox pennant following the 2004 win.

It was a tableau that was repeated thousands of times throughout New England that fall.

I did indeed wake Javi and prop him up in front of the teevee for the ninth inning last night. Lord only knows when we'll see that again. Could be next season...could be 2093.
