The Tipping Point

"At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"

"You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go".

"Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?"

What's it going to take? When does this country reach that mythical tipping point where concrete action must be taken?

Some might argue that moment came on January 21, 2017.

We've sat through increasing discord and histrionics, and a clearly degrading President. A good lot of us were babies in the late 1960s and missed the last great societal upheaval - but it might be worth checking in with your parents if they're still with us, and find out what they were doing...and more importantly, how.

I've spent a lot of time this past week pondering the actions in Boston in the mid 1770s. This city was truly oppressed at the time, and a shadow government of sorts was operating. Under the name of the "Committee of Safety", it was organized and run by the likes of Sam Adams, Joseph Warren, and Paul Revere. When an occupying military force arrived here, instead of falling in line and shouting about "Make the Colonies Great Again", we decided to resist.

It was thought that the great tipping point of the United States came in April of 1861. In the ensuing years, we nearly tore ourselves apart - but managed not to finish the deed. A dramatically incomplete "reconstruction" gave us a still-flawed nation today. In some ways, the issues raised by the Civil War have yet to be resolved, and once again we seem to be teetering on the brink of something catastrophic.

There is a fuse burning in this country, and with each passing day it gets closer to detonation. The last great block we have is November 3. I've said it elsewhere - either Biden wins and maybe we can try to fix the fresh hell this country has become, or Trump wins and revolution breaks out. I do not see any other option.

the next 3 months leading up to the election, and the 2 months after it are critical.
