Plant - Meet Beer
Author: BobR    Date: 04/28/2021 12:10:27

As most of you already know, I like beer (no, I am not channeling Brett Kananaugh). I homebrew beer, and I do a pretty good job, if I may pat myself on the back a little. I've got approximately 50 medals and ribbons I've won through the years at homebrew competitions. Since you can sometimes refer to a competition as a "meet", I could say I've done "beer meets".

What I have NEVER done is make "meat beer". You know why? Because it's not a thing. Despite the Bud Lite commercials, there are four ingredients that comprise beer:

  • Grain
  • Water
  • Hops
  • Yeast

Meat is not a beer ingredient (except for the occasional brewery that makes an "oyster stout", and tosses the entire oyster in, the yearly "mountain oyster" beer, or a local friend who experiments using crickets or cicadas). There have been those who've tried adding bacon (for some reason), but these are outliers and even in those rare cases, it's an adjunct - not a main ingredient.

Why? Because it's gross. Also - the fat in meat will kill the head on a beer (any oil will). And - plant products are required for producing alcohol.

By know you probably know I am getting ready to introduce one of the dumbest comments ever to be broadcast on FOX "News" (yes, that is a bold statement): I am of course referring to Larry Kudlow's comment that the Biden Administration will force Americans to drink "plant-based" beer:
“Speaking of stupid,” he began. “America has to, get this, America has to stop eating meat, stop eating poultry and fish, seafood, eggs, dairy and animal-based fats. OK, got that? No burgers on July Fourth. No steaks on the barbecue. ... So get ready. You can throw back a plant-based beer with your grilled Brussels sprouts and wave your American flag.”

Yeah, Larry - speaking of stupid. (Yes, that's a complete sentence that actually makes sense).

ALL alcoholic beverages are plant-based. Alcohol is produced when yeast consumes sugar. Sugar comes from plant sources (malted grain for beer, grapes for wine, corn, barley and/or rye for whiskey, etc.). He will try to walk this back, or say it was a joke or hyperbole, but I will not buy that meat-based lie - he decided to wing it in the context of a bigger lie, and totally blew it. It was like he said "Hold my meat-based beer...", and we all know nothing good comes after that.

The bigger lie is that the Biden administration is going to take away our red meat (one might guess after they get tired of taking away our guns, and FREEDUMBS!). FOX "News" host Juan Williams broke the "news" that they be lyin' 'bout some stuff:
Juan Williams, co-host of The Five on Fox News, called out the network on Tuesday for its recent repeated coverage of false stories.

[...]

One such story was the false claim that President Biden plans to limit the amount of red meat Americans can consume as part of his climate plan. The story was first printed in British tabloid The Daily Mail, which combined Biden’s goal of cutting down on greenhouse gasses with a year-old study out of the University of Michigan which suggested cutting down on red meat as a way of doing just that. The story blew up among conservative groups, right wing media and Republican elected officials at all levels of government. After reporting on Biden’s nonexistent plan for days, on Monday, Fox News issued a correction.

So an article in a British tabloid that cited a university study in the context of trying to wrangle climate change somehow morphed into "Biden gonna take our burgers!". They kept repeating this lie (even Insurrection Barbie, QOP MTG, and DTJr parroted the lie), until they eventually had to "issue a correction". By this time, the lie had been pounded into the heads of the True Believers, and they will believe it no matter what facts you try to stuff into their empty heads.

So we can drink a plant-based beer and laugh at Kudlow, but the professional liars are tossing red meat to the gullible, hungry for yet another reason to rise up against the "tyranny" of government.

Good Morning.

Well - Trisec famously does not like beer. (In other news, I also hate America.) Oh, I'll drink some here and there, but I'm not a maven like our fearless blog captain.

However - I do like several grain alcohols, and I'm experimenting with a new one from Moldova of all places. Vodka made specifically with wheat, instead of the more generic "grain".

But there are plants involved.

Mornin' all..

Larry Kudlow is one of the many who needs to be incarcerated for profiteering from their government position.

Say gang, can we talk movies a minute?

Friday I park my bus for the last time and transition to office work again.

I'm thinking I need a palette cleanser Sunday afternoon.

But what?

Do I go with a classic comedy just to be silly? Or maybe something deeply cerebral and thought-provoking to make sure my atrophied brain still works? Escapist/fantasy fare?

I'm afraid movies and I are deeply disconnected; I have no idea what's out there these days.

I have to think that even the average Fox News viewer (not that they think much) knows what beer is made from since they drink enough of it.

Since I have been in the nursing home without any subscription services, I have fallen into a steady diet of old reruns on MeTV, Cozi TV and Antenna TV and whatever I can watch on the Locast app or Pluto TV.

Anyone know what happened on his live statement? I couldn't rack my brain to listen to it.
