We've Only Just Begun

We are still in danger. 'TFG' is out of office but his deeply hate-filled ideology is still out there. January 6 2021 was building up for over a year. In many ways, I feel it was just the beginning of an insurgency, not a moment in time. To put a finer point on it, in the days after the presidential election in November 2020, the top US military officer, The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs was fearing a coup attempt by 'TFG" and his sycophants.

Yes, a coup attempt. As if matters could have gotten worse in the 2 months between election day and January 6, it wasn't just your garden variety coup. The nation's TOP MILITARY officer was fearing a "potential ‘Reichstag moment’ aimed at keeping Trump in power" That's the headline from WaPo. The authors of this book, Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, are reporters from the Post.
Milley described “a stomach-churning” feeling as he listened to Trump’s untrue complaints of election fraud, drawing a comparison to the 1933 attack on Germany’s parliament building that Hitler used as a pretext to establish a Nazi dictatorship.

“This is a Reichstag moment,” Milley told aides, according to the book. “The gospel of the Führer.”

(snip)

“You are one of the few guys who are standing between us and some really bad stuff,” the friend told Milley, according to an account relayed to his aides. Milley was shaken, Leonnig and Rucker write, and he called former national security adviser H.R. McMaster to ask whether a coup was actually imminent.

“What the f--- am I dealing with?” Milley asked him.
It was as bad - and probably worse - as we thought. I'm not a huge fan of Milley especially after the events of June 2020 in front of St. Johns Episcopal during the BLM protests. Hell, I don't have to be a fan. He's military -- what I need from our leaders is to have a sense of trust and the events of that June left me skeptical of him. His apology, later on, went a long way. Last month, he testified to Congress. What he said about race and understanding in the military went even further.
"I've read Mao Zedong. I've read Karl Marx. I've read Lenin. That doesn't make me a communist. So what is wrong with understanding — having some situational understanding about the country for which we are here to defend?" Milley said.

He continued brusquely: "And I personally find it offensive that we are accusing the United States military, our general officers, our commissioned, noncommissioned officers of being, quote, 'woke' or something else, because we're studying some theories that are out there."
I'm fairly sure he's read the history of the events in between the 2 great wars. When a person of his station in life uses the terms Führer and Brownshirts, that isn't hyperbole from a hysteric. It's serious.
Ahead of a November pro-Trump "Million MAGA March" to protest the election results, Milley told aides he feared it "could be the modern American equivalent of 'brownshirts in the streets,'" referring to the pro-Nazi militia that fueled Hitler's rise to power.

(snip)

"What they are trying to do here is overturn the government," said the friend, who is not named, according to the authors. "This is all real, man. You are one of the few guys who are standing between us and some really bad stuff."
All of this was months before January 6. I have a helluva lot more questions that I want to see answered. and I want those who are leading the ongoing insurgency (yes, ongoing) held to account-- I'd prefer sooner rather than later, but I want it done right so justice will not be dismissed. Our nation is in more danger than when the tyrannical madman was occupying the White house. Make no mistake about it. If you don't want to take my word for it, how about this man, Malcolm Nance.

Every election for the rest of our lives will be the most important election of all. The question is, after 245 years, can we keep our republic?
There is a story, often told, that upon exiting the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin was approached by a group of citizens asking what sort of government the delegates had created. His answer was: "A republic if you can keep it." The brevity of that response should not cause us to under-value its essential meaning: democratic republics are not merely founded upon the consent of the people, they are also absolutely dependent upon the active and informed involvement of the people for their continued good health.

Our time of resistance is not over. It's only just begun.

&
Vigilantly yours,
Raine

more from WaPo ( I understand there is a paywall) “This guy’s crazy,” Pelosi said of Trump in what the book reported was mostly a one-way phone call. “He’s dangerous. He’s a maniac.”

Once again, Milley sought to reassure: “Ma’am, I guarantee you that we have checks and balances in the system,” he told Pelosi.

Less than a week later, as military and law enforcement leaders planned for President Biden’s inauguration, Milley said he was determined to avoid a repeat of the siege on the Capitol.

“Everyone in this room, whether you’re a cop, whether you’re a soldier, we’re going to stop these guys to make sure we have a peaceful transfer of power,” he told them. “We’re going to put a ring of steel around this city and the Nazis aren’t getting in.”

Mornin' all...

My head is all screwed up today. Why you ask? Because my girlfriend lied to me about something super important.

She said she wasn't getting vaccinated because "children should get it before older people do". Now she's saying "my body my choice".

I wanted to make plans to go places with her. I wanted her to meet my family, finally. That 100% will never happen now - not only because I don't want her to get sick I don't want my braindead anti-vax brother and his braindead anti-vax family to get sick either.

Oh, Scoop. I don't know what to say.

That's just sad.

I'm sorry Scoop. Got an aunt that doesn't seem to want to get vaxxed and she started back at work (at a community college) this week. I'm scared for her and for anyone she comes in contact with, including her 3 year old great-grandson.

So, as I said yesterday, McCarthy is like a fish on a boat deck--

Lets see what he says after this:

Millie said this on December 11 -- it takes on new meaning for me today.

George Conway pointed it out and I think he's right.

The really fucked up thing is she dosen't even seem to care about how I would react if I brought that damn virus in and got her sick or worse. She only cares about the fact that I'm reacting in advance and she sees me as being overbearing for it.

Good morning. So Russia must be eating it up that the GQP seems to want to do Moscow's bidding across the board since it's now more than just the orange anus who's following their line.

This is a real problem, Scoop.
