Good Morning.

Today is our 1,707th day in Iraq. Some of of our troops are facing their 5th Thanksgiving away from home this week.

We'll start this morning as we always do, with the latest casualty figures courtesy of Antiwar.com:

American Deaths
Since war began (3/19/03): 3873
Since "Mission Accomplished" (5/1/03): 3734
Since Capture of Saddam (12/13/03): 3412
Since Handover (6/29/04): 3014
Since Election (1/31/05): 2436

Other Coalition Troops: 304
US Military Deaths - Afghanistan: 468


We find this morning's cost of war standing at:

And do go direct to the website and stare at the counter a moment today. It seems to be moving faster than ever to these eyes.



Instead of a swing through IAVA, let's muse with the TriSec this week.

This past weekend, young Javier and I walked Lexington Green.

It was here that ordinary citizens rose up to face the forces of oppresion and tyranny, and started us down the road leading to this grand experiment we call "America".

It was a beautiful fall day, couldn't ask for better...but as we walked around and Javi made me read him all the memorial plaques, I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of sadness. Like we failed these men and broke the covenant they gave us.

Standing here, at the memorial on a quiet corner of the green, where those who fell fighting for what they believed was right are interred...I thought I sensed a faint whirring of these patriots in the sarcophogi below me.

I barely made it through the wording on that memorial, and as I stood looking down the length of the green towards Boston, I openly wondered that when Javi grows up, will all this still be worth fighting for?




Looking at the current crop of those that would lead us, there isn't a statesman or an inspirer among them. Sure, Obama has the youth, Richardson has the experience, and Edwards may yet run away with it all....but it doesn't feel like there is hope. Together they may be able to do it....but we can only elect one of them. Are we faced with the lesser of the evils this time, or can we truly support a candidate? I for one would love to vote FOR someone rather than against someone else.

We've been at war since March of 2003, and all we have are an endless cycle of despair, broken families, empty promises, and hateful rhetoric. Just a year ago, we elected a democratic majority in the hopes that things would change, and we might be able to extricate ourselves from the mess that this so-called president got us into. But we have been disappointed time and time again by political machinations that have those who would lead worrying about personal attacks and losing elections, instead of doing the right thing, doing what is right for America.

There was no doubt among the assembled Minutemen on that April morning so long ago. For as Abraham Lincoln said four score and seven years later, about men fighting in a different war, "The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated [this ground], far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."




It's up to us now. The election is upon us; we begin voting for the next leader of this land right after the holidays. The question now is, do we stand up and fight, or do we shrug our shoulders and continue our lives in ignorant bliss? Do we be the "Good German" and march in lockstep down the road to disaster, or are we going to make a stand?

We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. Not again. The line must be drawn here. This far, no further! This is our Stalingrad, the cataclysmic struggle to determine which course we take. Nothing less than the future of the United States, our children, and perhaps the entire world lies on what we do between now and November 4.



Getting back to Lexington, the words of Captain Parker ring as true as they did on that cold April morning 232 years ago.

"Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here. "

Let's look in the rear-view mirror and remember why this nation was founded in the first place. Will I be able to bring my grandchildren to Lexington and be proud of this country again, or will I hang my head in shame and shed bitter tears over what became of these United States?

Tri...I must say your blog is making me consider, or reconsider for the millionth time, do I cast my vote for Kucinich who "they" say "can't win?" Watching that "debate" the other night, I thought Dennis looked angry. And, he should be angry. I am angry. A majority of us are angry. We've been taught that we shouldn't be. We have to smile, and put our "support the troops" sticker on our car, and go shopping! After all, it's almost Christmas. Dennis says he will end the war and I believe him. Dennis says he will get rid of NAFTA and I believe him. I have an innate sense that should the relection results be unclear, as they were in 2004, Dennis would fight. He would fight because he is angry. And, he should be! I want to believe in Edwards, but he doesn't have the fire in his belly. Maybe he isn't angry enough; not at Hillary, but at what has happened to this country! And, Obama can talk all he wants about his "Politics of Hope" but my hope springs in someone genuninely being passionate, perhaps manifested in anger, about true change. I want someone who wants to shake up the status quo. I do NOT want to be "the Good German." I want to BELIEVE in someone. And, the more I listen and watch, the more I believe in Dennis. The "politics of hope" only work if it comes with "the fire" to CHANGE THINGS!

Thanks Tri. . . you have perhaps given me the strength to do what is unpopular, according to the MSM, but what I feel in my heart is the right decision to change the direction of our country.

you know star, as far as candidates, I think that the primaries are for us to choose and to promote the candidate we truly want. if it be Dennis, Dodd, edwards... whoever. This is the time in the campaings for all of us to be as idealistic as we truly want to be.





This is the time when we need to believe that our hopes can become reality. There are 2 candidates that I truly desire to win the nomination. Dennis AND edwards. I trust them both to do the right thing. so, yeah, now is the time to be loud and to get in the way, no matter what the MSM tells us to do.

Maybe that's why I'm particularly enamoured of the governor of New Mexico. He's been there; he's negotiated with people who hate us, and he's got the temperment, the smarts, and the skills to rebuild our reputation in the world.



More than anything else, I think that's what's going to be the most important thing in this election. We are no longer that 'city upon a hill', and the current crop of leaders seem content to wallow in the mud with the rest of the tin-plated dictators.



We're better than that, and that's what we have to get back to. Eventually, it will reach the point where the rest of the world will have enough of us and won't deal anymore. Our influence and prestige is declining every day...why do you think the rest of the world is mostly ignoring us and we're unable to influence anything anymore?

I think you're correct. Foreign Policy will be a big deal! We need a states(wo)man to get in there and fix the worldwide damage.

I suppose I feel like this doesn't necessarily have to be the President, however.

But we need a President that will make a really wise choice for Secretary of State.



I do have to say, I watched the debate thinking "I want all of them."

The 7 of them together would make one hell of a cabinet!

PRESS RELEASE

October 26, 2007



Restaurant Burglar Arrested



On Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 11:00 am Manassas City Police Officers responded to Mi Barrio Restaurant located at 9203 Prescott Avenue for the report of a breaking and entering that occurred sometime during the night.



The complainant, an employee of the restaurant reported when she arrived this morning she found the back door open and the air conditioning unit broken out of the back window.



After cleaning up the restaurant and going to the dumpster to throw the trash out, she found a Hispanic male sleeping in the dumpster holding a bottle of scotch/whiskey that belonged to the restaurant.



The subject was woken by officers and taken into custody. A review of the security cameras showed that at 2:55 am the same subject crawled through the back window after removing the air conditioning unit. He was seen drinking several different bottles of liquor, then taking the scotch/whiskey bottle and leave.



The offender, Daniel Gonzalez Martinez, 26, of Manassas, VA has been charged with Breaking and Entering and Larceny. He is being held without bond pending a November 19th court date.

I know what you mean. I am very lucky to be able to use my name as I am known as. My full name by birth is Loraine, but I was always called Raine or Rainie growing up. Raine stuck as I got older and it just came naturally. loraine is somehting that I am called more formally.

But, I was nervous.

I'm back. I was listening to Randi while I was out when I was in the car. As someone who has followed the media for many years, I do not like this consolidation not just because of what it's done to employment in the industry, but the watering down of content. I do feel a lot of times that despite all the channels I get now, that there was more choice when all I had was channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13.



Too bad I can't get myself up in the morning because of my work hours. That is something I could write about.
