Good Morning.

Another day out at the pond...so I'll be heading out in a little bit to paddle around all day and get paid for it. Best job at the store, for sure!

Well, we all know what this weekend is. In the days leading up to it, I've been pondering the World Trade Center. Not the attacks, but the buildings themselves. I do have to admit that as a Bostonian, the buildings of Manhattan didn't hold that much sway over me. I'm certainly aware of the historic and iconic nature of many of them, but not living in the city, it's something you take for granted. Of course they're always going to be there. I have only been in Manhattan once in my life, and I was a wee lad at the time. I remember going up the Empire State Building, but not much else.

After the events, I paid a little bit closer attention to the WTC. I discovered that the buildings and I were contemporaries; groundbreaking for the site was on August 5, 1966...3 days before I made my debut. The site has some interesting history, and I do recommend you at least take a skim through.

I've driven by and flown over NYC dozens of times....like I alluded to earlier, it's something you always took for granted. There would be new construction and changes to the city skyline, but you never expect anything as dramatic as what actually happened.

The last time I was by New York was on the afternoon of January 21, 2009. As I noted rather sadly to Mrs. TriSec....Javi was born a month before it happened; he doesn't know the city any other way. It will never look the same to us, as far as we're concerned.

So in that vein...
