Being Thankful in the Age of tRump
Author: BobR    Date: 11/23/2017 14:00:32

It's been a rough year for those of us with intelligence and compassion. When tRumpleThinSkin took office in January, we all braced ourselves for a giant leap backwards. We envisioned ugliness all around. To some extent, our fears were not misplaced. However, looking back over the past 10 months (only ten??), we have plenty to be thankful for.

I am thankful that our government works as designed. We have a three-legged stool to ensure that our democratic republic never wobbles. We are a nation of laws - not a nation of men. To wit:

tRump's executive orders keep getting blocked by the judicial branch. His initial travel ban caused some problems at the airports, but was rejected by the courts. His attempts at redoing it were also blocked. He gave up on it.

His order to defund so-called "Sanctuary Cities" was temporarily blocked in April, and permanently blocked a couple days ago.

Thanks to a small handful of upstanding Republican senators, several efforts to kill ObamaCare and pass a draconian spending bill have failed.

His various cabinet heads, staffed by the most incompetent and/or people diametrically-opposed to the cabinets' mission, have not been able to do much either. Again, this is occasionally thanks to the courts, such as trying to prevent enforcement of environmental regulations.

I am thankful that the Mueller team is investigating the crimes of this filthy administration, and that indictments are being brought upon the offenders. As a country, we have to put ourselves above the partisanship and agree that using illegal means to attain office or wealth cannot be accepted, even by those occupying the highest offices in the land (or maybe even more so).

The incompetence of the administration is actually something to be thankful for in this case. Can you imagine if someone was this determined to roll back all the advancements of the Obama administration and actually knew what they were doing?

I'm thankful for the voters who decided to show up earlier this month and show the tRump supporters that we are not going to sit back and let them ruin this country. VA became a bluer shade of purple, and plenty of seats nationwide were taken by people who were not white men. It was a definite repudiation of tRump.

I am thankful for this blog and the people who participate - I love our little quiet corner of the Inter-verse.

Personally - I am thankful for Raine, our home, our animals, and that we get to live a good life in a nice area. What's more important than that?
