With the indictment and arrest of Jeffrey Epstein for child sex trafficking, it seems that a lot of rich, powerful, and well-connected people are feeling the heat. There are plenty of names to choose from, but considering one of them is the current occupant of the Oval Office, it's crucial that we look at this web of connections to see just how mafia-like they really are.

This requires looking back at Epsteins original sweet deal. He got off (no pun intended) with a very light sentence, thanks to wrangling by his lawyer Alan Derschowitz (who has also been accused of taking advantage of Epstein's underage harem). Prior to that 2006 arrangement, Epstein and tRump were bosom-buddies. An article in the NY Times details how tRump arranged a "VIP Party" for picking a calendar girl. Turns out that tRump and Epstein were the only two "guests" at the party:
It was supposed to be an exclusive party at Mar-a-Lago, Donald J. Trump’s members-only club in Palm Beach, Fla. But other than the two dozen or so women flown in to provide the entertainment, the only guests were Mr. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.

The year was 1992 and the event was a “calendar girl” competition, something that George Houraney, a Florida-based businessman who ran American Dream Enterprise, had organized at Mr. Trump’s request.

“I arranged to have some contestants fly in,” Mr. Houraney recalled in an interview on Monday. “At the very first party, I said, ‘Who’s coming tonight? I have 28 girls coming.’ It was him and Epstein.”

[..]

“I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy,” Mr. Trump told New York magazine in 2002. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

Of course, that all changed after the court case:
Trump isn’t known to have gone on any trips with Epstein, which would have been out of character. “I don’t think Trump would go to someone else’s property or someone else’s island or villa,” Nunberg said. “He doesn’t even play golf at anyone else’s clubs.” But Trump did host Epstein as a guest at Mar-a-Lago, where he appears in photos in 1997 and 2000. Epstein’s personal little black book, which was leaked by an employee in 2009, contained 14 phone numbers for Trump, his wife, Melania, and several people who worked for him.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, President Trump dismissed his past appearances with Epstein, describing him as a “fixture in Palm Beach” in those years. “I had a falling out with him a long time ago,” he added, though he declined to elaborate. “I don’t think I’ve spoken to him for 15 years.”

Methinks he doth protest to much.

Besides tRump, there's Alex Acosta, tRump's acting Secretary of Labor. He was the US Attorney who gave Epstein that sweet deal after his original arrest. Years later, he becomes part of tRump's Cabinet. Hmm...

Then there's Attorney General Bill Barr. His father hired Epstein back in the early 70s:
... back in the early 1970s, Barr’s father hired Epstein to work as a physics and math teacher at the elite Manhattan private school Dalton, despite the fact that Epstein did not have a college degree.

Barr said he'd recuse himself - then he suddenly "unrecused" himself. How much he intends to interfere will likely depend on what evidence they have. Anything that implicates tRump will likely cause Barr to jettison the entire thing.

But hey - that's what mafioso do... I'll do you this favor, and then someday, I'll ask you to do me a favor.

Now kiss the ring.
