The election is finally over. From now until January 20th we certainly will have a lot to endure, for lack of a better word.
At about 11:25 AM on Saturday (EST), the 2020 Presidential race was called by two major news outlets. Others such as the Associated Press, WaPo WSJ started falling like the Berlin Wall. The clean-up will begin soon.
Personally, I am still in a place of just soaking it all in. The occupant in the White House was asked to leave by a majority of citizens. We have a decent and kind man as President-elect.
We have the Vice President-Elect, Kamala Harris -- who has a list of firsts unlike almost anyone in Presidential politics history. I cry a little every time I see or read a mention that young women and little girls and boys will grow up thinking this woman being elected to the second-highest office in the country, is - well - normal. It should have been normal decades ago. It should never have been abnormal.
What should go back to being abnormal is the mindset that electing someone like the current occupant to the highest office in the land was okay. It never was. It should never happen again.
Soon we will begin to repair the damage this administration has painfully inflicted upon the nation and it's people.
Soon we will begin to really get this pandemic under control using science and facts.
Soon there will be an Attorney General that will restore the word "justice" in its department's name.
Soon White Supremacy in the White House will be gone.
Soon the Presidential family will reside in the East wing. Nepotism will be gone.
Soon we will repair our relationships with our allies around the world.
Soon we will have lifelong public servants in the White House who truly love the U.S.A. and have proven it over the course of their lives.
There are many "soons" -- but for now, I take comfort that we stopped the bleeding. We are going to have decency and forcefulness coming from the executive branch again. That gives me a lot of hope for our future. The youth in our country will have a torch of decency passed onto them in the future, All we have to do is support the effort that will go into righting the course.
Soon, not soon enough perhaps, but for now... I am still soaking in Love trumping Hate.
