The first case of Covid-19 was detected in NYC one year ago today. It was a health care worker who had returned from Iran. We on this coast were looking at things happening on the other coast, but it was this day, a year ago when all hell would break loose and New York would become the
first epicenter of death, destruction, and sadness in our nation.
“We don’t have a timeline for this crisis,†Mayor Bill de Blasio announced at the time. “I think people should assume it will be with us for months, and we’re going to be in a high state of readiness as long as it’s here.â€
Months turned into a year of tremendous loss and monumental changes. Now, this unchartered period is met with plenty of hope.

A year has been lost to so many forever. So many lives gone. Life is altered forever. I don't know what the new "normal" will be but I am relieved that help is - finally - on the way.
I just want to stop feeling afraid of trying to live my life with freedom and safety.
