I woke up this morning to watch the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. I made a wonderful choice to have turned my TV to Youtube. I am watching it live on WaPo's channel.

There is an awful lot to be said about the British monarchy. over a thousand years, to be honest. That said, much of the focus has been on her Monarchy. I don't know what the future holds for the current monarchy, but the Queen is symbolic of the 96 years she breathed air on this planet in so many ways. The critiques of the Monarchy are well deserved, from colonialism to slavery there is a reckoning happening. The history of the Monarchy has a lot of pain in its past.

I admire her for what she has done, and I am well aware of her flaws. She actually saw decolonization while residing over colonial rule. The UK has gotten smaller during her reign. There will be more of that going forward, I suspect.

For now, I watch this history in all of its beauty and flaws. She helped to rebuild England after WWII and faced global change over the course of her life like no one else has -- and perhaps could have.
