Walking the Talk

There's an old saying that goes "don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk". It goes right along with "put up or shut up" and "don't let your mouth write a check your ass can't cash". (okay - that last one is usually said in a '79 Camaro while wearing a Member's Only jacket, but I digress...). The Republicans have been doing a lot of talking. How are they walking? Let's check...
I've written previously about Republican candidates back-pedaling on ear marks. It's been the Tea Party ("Taxed Enough Already") that has complained the loudest about taxes and spending. You would think that legislators that self-identify as tea-partiers would reject ear marks out of principal. You'd be wrong. It seems that those legislators took home $1 Billion worth of pork to their home states and districts. Apparently, it's only pork when it's for a Democrat's district.
Republicans have also beaten the "lower taxes = more jobs" and "lower taxes are better for the economy" mantra since the Reagan era. They even pointed to the tax haven of Ireland as a model of prosperity fueled by low taxes... that is - until the bottom fell out:
(bold-face mine...) Also quoted are folks from the Heritage Foundation, the CATO Institute, the American Enterprise Institute, and Mitt Romney. Once the Irish economy essentially collapsed, suddenly they blamed Ireland's excessive corporate taxes. Hello?
McCain was also one of the guys that said "let's wait until the Pentagon finishes its study" before rolling back Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Apparently, McCain never counted on the Pentagon to agree it should be rolled back. When they did, he had the nerve to dismiss the credentials of Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Adm. Mike Mullen. I guess the only result that counts is the result he wants. That's not what he professed in 2006:

Never mind caffeine; today I should be maintaining a base level of Nsaid in my system.
Had a gout flare earlier this week; I've been walking with a total gimp for 3 days, and now my achilles and spine are paying the price. Standing up for 11 hours over the past 2 days hasn't helped, either.

Morning all & Happy Fridee! 
I just don't have the bounce in me today.. I've had crappy sleep all week thanks to recurring resting leg cramps, I feel a cold brewing in my sinuses, and this morning my jaw & teeth started flaring up AGAIN...

An LCD TV may or may not be an HDTV (although it usually is)
An HDTV may or may not be an LCD TV (it could also be plasma or LED)

That's just the thing - the Tufts job is not quite what I want to do anymore. But it does have the advantage of location (4 miles from home) and I've got a lot of industry friends over there. Plus, Mrs. TriSec worked there, and I know people on the inside, too.
Staying in EDI with an up-and-coming company looks better to me anyway.

I'd be inclined to believe that. He is an asshat, but I think he's sincere on Veteran's issues. I have spoken to his office numerous times about Arlington, for example. I have not gotten the runaround on that particular issue.

During my time of service, I have visited our injured troops at Walter Reed and have attended funerals of our fallen heroes. When a soldier answers the call to serve, and risks life or limb, it has never mattered to me whether they are gay or straight. My only concern has been whether their service and sacrifice is with pride and honor.
“I pledged to keep an open mind about the present policy on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Having reviewed the Pentagon report, having spoken to active and retired military service members, and having discussed the matter privately with Defense Secretary Gates and others, I accept the findings of the report and support repeal based on the Secretary’s recommendations that repeal will be implemented only when the battle effectiveness of the forces is assured and proper preparations have been completed.â€
