ICYMI: The government is still shut down. Boner still Orange, and truckers have been sighted on the beltway. And it's still raining.

Oh, The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons won the Nobel peace prize.
The award caught much of the world by surprise, as did last year’s prize, which went to the European Union. But the removal of chemical weapons from Syria has been viewed as an important step in bringing an end to a two-and-a-half year war that has killed an estimated 100,000 people.

Thanks Obama...

Greetings, comrades.

File under "Shutdown bites FCHP". We have not received any CMS Coordination of Benefits files since the shutdown. It won't affect care, but it will affect claims processing and payment. Which means with no info, we won't pay anything. And you know how hospitals and doctors operate hand-to-mouth these days.

Baseball note: I'm actually more excited about the NL series than the Sox this weekend....Dodgers/Cardinals, featuring my #3 and #4 teams, is going to be an awesome series. I have my doubts about the Sox getting past Detriot.

I'd pay real money to see a blue-painted tractor trailer out on the Beltway today, emblazoned with "YOU ALL SUCK" on both sides.

fyi to my fellow Gleek - last night was devastating. Esp the scene with Sue and Santana and Puke and Bieste

At one point, four tractor-trailers started driving side-by-side, across all four northbound lanes of the inner loop. That caused traffic to slow to 15 miles per hour. State police troopers stopped the vehicles and “warned them not to impede traffic,” Geller said. The drivers were not issued tickets and allowed to “proceed on their way.” (snip)

On parts of the Beltway, police said the group stood out because they had American flags draped on their vehicles, along with signs that said “#T2SDA” (Truckers to Shut Down America).

Bunch of douches that are just making people more miserable during Rush hour.

seriously I don't get that - what is the thinking?

"Hey I hate the government. The government is currently shut down. Let me go fuck up traffic for everyone else trying to get to work. Cause I hate government."

Really? WTF?

WORST PROTEST EVER.

The “Truckers Ride for the Constitution,” which organizer Zeeda Andrews said could attract as many as 3,000 big rigs to the nation’s capital, only had about 10 participants as of 8:30 a.m.

Andrews insists the convoy is meant to be a peaceful protest rather than a traffic clog. The organizer said Thursday that reports of the trucks planning to take up three lanes of the Beltway were inaccurate, and that they should only occupy one lane of traffic.

Geller said the organizers of the protest, dubbed “Truckers Ride for the Constitution,” plan to take shifts and drive around the Beltway throughout the Columbus Day holiday weekend. Extra Virginia troopers are on the road because of the expected uptick in holiday drivers, and because of the protest, she said.

Raine - have a kinda design/content question for you -

I want to enter an art contest for a charity with an original design. However, its my understanding that the winners will lose the rights to that drawing. What I want to know is if there is a large element to that design that I want to repeat am I no longer allowed to use it?

They aren't specifying that you lose the right, they just have the right to use it as they wish.
Finally, we’ll have to make our relationship “official” – we’re going to ask you to sign something that gives Random Acts the right to reproduce your images for this purpose or other purposes.
I would ask them, to be sure. The contract should be made available before submissions are taken. I know that it's and org but there are some legalities that they would benefit themselves by clarifying. When they say the right to reproduce your images for this purpose or other purposes. -- that indicates fundraising. Will you get credit for the image?

Ask them for more details, that shouldn't be a problem unless they don't have details; then I'd have to say they are opening themselves up for problems.

The contest doesn't clarify professional or non professional artists -- and some pro's have very good lawyers/agents.

For now he's just loving getting attention and brushing.

Not sure how many pro's they'll get, its a very small charity that got created to channel the energy of a fanbase (much like Amanda Tappings Sanctuary 4 Kids) for good not evil

I really don't care if they use the image to fundraise. There just one element I want to be able to reuse. I'll ask if they have more deets.

Raine, did you see former Congressman Barney Frank on TRMS last night?

I can't do it justice, but he was openly wondering to the good Dr. Maddow what part of "shutdown" the GOP didn't understand WRT things like national parks shutting down, or goods and services not being provided.

To paraphrase: "They shut it down, what the hell did they think was going to happen?"

Overall -- I think it is. They overall played good football last night. I can't deny this. The offensive line gave manning plenty of time to throw three interceptions instead of being sacked.

I was only half joking when I said 'Thanks Obama' this morning. I wanted to say more bout it, but Mr. David Corn is a real writer.

But Obama may well deserve a smidgen of credit for the Nobel peace prize that was handed out this week. The winner is the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the Hague-based body created to enforce the U.N. Chemical Weapons Convention that bans such arms. The OPCW is now busy overseeing the cataloging and destruction of Syria's chemical arsenal. Hence, the Obama connection.

It seems fair to argue that the OPCW is destroying chemical weapons equipment in Syria because Obama took a stand after the regime of Bashar al-Assad presumably attacked a suburb of Damascus with chemical weapons in August and killed about 1400 people. After Obama threatened to launch a retaliatory attack on Syria with the aim of deterring Assad from again using these horrific weapons—a threat that resulted in a political kerfuffle in Washington—Russian leader Vladimir Putin brokered a deal under which Assad acknowledged he possessed chemical weapons and agreed to place them under international control. The subsequent negotiations are still under way, but, at least for the time being, Obama did achieve his aim—preventing the further use of chemical weapons in Syria. Moreover, he placed Putin on the hook for Assad's chemical weapons.

This is just tearing me up. Raised him from a little kitten, because some asshole abandoned him and his littermates. At least the asshole abandoned him in the right spot.

There are still moments when he looks "OK" and I go, maybe he's turning it around. Then I see him struggle to climb down from a box barely a foot high and get brought back to reality.
