Good morning. Home as I am still in the no-functioning car situation. I did some housework, will have breakfast, and get a lift later to look after a friend who is 93. (Yes, he still drives, so I will take him to services and get a lift back home from another friend.)

Raine, I understand not being motivated today. So, let me offer an article for discussion of Georgia's Republican Senate Race, courtesy of Talking Points Memo:

Todd Akin 2.0? Georgia’s Senate Race Is GOP’s Worst Nightmare

Daniel Strauss – February 7, 2014, 6:00 AM EST14129

Republicans have struggled to try and avoid campaign-crippling remarks that could snatch away an otherwise easy win in 2014 -- but that may be impossible in the Georgia Senate race.

With eight candidates vying for the nomination, you'd think Republicans would have their pick for the next Georgia senator. Instead the field is filled with a mess of candidates who drudge up the worst stereotypes of an anti-science, anti-woman, anti-Obama, anti-immigrant Mr. Moneybags candidate -- a reputation the party has desperately been trying to shed.

Democrats view the GOP's field as a boon for likely Democratic nominee Michelle Nunn, daughter of the former Sen. Sam Nunn (D-GA), who many think has a chance even in a red state like Georgia. There's a real possibility that the large GOP field will split the vote causing a runoff GOP primary between the two lead candidates.

"I mean, the runoff is going to be a shitshow," a Democratic campaign official told TPM. "In the past six weeks we've seen 'sweep the floor,' we've seen 'impeach Obama,' we've seen Paul Broun raffle off a rifle."

Once again, it seems that the GOP is fielding candidates who do not relate to people outside of a small, very conservative voting base. Rep. Paul Broun, who is on the House National Science Committee, has called evolution "lies from the pit of Hell." He has expressed a willingness to impeach President Obama and raffled off an assault rifle to his supporters.

Other candidates include Rep. Phil Gingrey who called Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" comments "partially right" and Rep. Jack Kingston who suggested that middle school students sweep floors in exchange for school lunches. (Please, Rep. Kingston, stigmatize and marginalize the poor some more. Are there not work houses out of 19th Century England in your plans?)

So, it looks like the GOP may end up helping Democrat Michelle Nunn, daughter of former Samuel Nunn. Oh well, I guess when a party's base is shrinking down to the size of a thimble, this is bound to happen.

Having a very late breakfast and still am having some tea to wake up.

In some good news, a missing baby in Wisconsin has been found alive. We are still getting details.

Comment by Will in Chicago on 02/07/2014 17:12:02
The baby was taken from Wisconsin to Iowa. Details are being released in a press conference.

Good day, folks. I've got a busy day of things to do as long as I can get my car out of the driveway since there is a pile of ice-covered snow that I can't shovel which means I can't back out of my spot.

This is not a good sign. I am VERY worried about terrorism associated with these Olympics.

My brother wants to talk to a friend about my car, and I suspect that I know what the answer will be -- junk it. In some good news, a friend will borrow me his car this afternoon until tomorrow morning

CNN has more on the attempted hijacking.

A Pegasus Airlines plane landed at an Istanbul airport Friday after a passenger "said that there was a bomb on board" and wanted the plane to land in Sochi, Russia, the site of the Winter Olympics, said officials with Turkey's Transportation Ministry.

"While the plane was in the air, one of the passengers said that there was a bomb on board and asked the plane to not land in Sabiha Gokcen (in Turkey) but rather to land in Sochi," Transportation Ministry official Habip Soluk said Friday on CNNTurk.

The alleged attempted hijacker is reported to be a Ukrainian.

More on the missing baby, Kayden Powell. He was found in a tote bag outside of a gas station in Iowa, where the temperatures were in single digits. It looks like an aunt may be the prime suspect, as she was found near the gas station.

My roommate was able to back the car out of the spot so I can drive it now. I just have to be careful where I park until it warms up.

Despite all the jerks in this world, there is still a lot of good in humanity.

Meanwhile, yet another billionaire is claiming that picking on the one percent is unfair, that they merely work harder. Quick, someone call a whambulance.

Dear millionaire tool; here is a picture of a dick that I just drew.

I worked 3, count 'em, 3 JOBS, while I was undergoing cancer treatments. Plus all my volunteer work, and political campaigning.

Suck my chemotherapy-laden ass, fuckhole.

I heard that it is good on WGN TV, as it takes advantage of every movie cliche that it can and pokes fun at it.

I believe I have achieved some kind of musical Nirvana state.

You are all well aware of my love for the entire "Electronic" genre. (I am listening to Classic Trance on DI as we speak.)

Well, I have come to find out that Javi can't stand the stuff. Like he says, "You think that because I am younger than you, I will like this?". And my own father, the professional musician, can't stand it on aesthetic grounds.

So I can indeed annoy both my father and my son with my music. I believe I win.
