Faith Finally comes to the South

Many people consider the South to be the "Bible Belt" but as any real Southerner can tell you that is far from the truth. I mean, not unless there's a different Bible that I've never seen.
One of the tenets of this thing called "Christianity" (named after a hippie looking guy that today would labeled a possible Islamic Terrorist by many) is that we should help the poor.
I know, it's pretty laughable to think that those of us that have a roof over our heads and some food in our stomach should actually get off our couches and help the poor. Just amazing. Hold on. I need to purchase this thing I need off the interwebs.
Where was I? Oh yes, so this "Bible" thing says that we should help the poor and the sick and those that have no voice. No, I'm not kidding. Here's a sample:

Well, as we all know, the South don't play that game. Why should we help the poor? It's just unheard of. Sure, there have been some crazies that believed in this policy, but they were rarely in government.
In the state of North Carolina a movement was started called Moral Monday and led by people who wanted their state government to practice what the Bible says we're supposed to do vis-a-vis the poor, elderly, sick, et al.
Now, that movement is also moving further South to Georgia. I did notice that it skipped South Carolina. There may be no hope for that state.
Yes, no doubt that they did.
Republicans - at least the majority of them - pretend to be quite enamored with this whole "Bible thing" as well as the guy who founded the religion (as long as he's portrayed as a white guy) but they just don't seem to have a firm grasp on the actual concept of the Christian movement. (Ditto other movements that are similar in nature).
It's really too bad. If only they would read and understand the parts like these:
Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.
But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
Dear Republicans and Blue-dog Dems who all claim to have Jesus in your heart, please take note and TRY TO PAY ATTENTION!

The Rev. Raphael Warnock of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King Jr. was baptized and served as a pastor, was arrested as he participated in a sit-in outside the governor's office.The group hoped to disrupt the state legislators on the second-to-last day of the legislative session.
Tim Franzen, an organizer with Moral Monday Georgia, called the protesters "a very diverse group of folks."
"They were old, young, black, white, gay and straight," Franzen told HuffPost Tuesday. "Nothing like this has ever happened inside the golden dome. We definitely had a policy impact because [the state legislators] now have a packed schedule, this will impede their ability to get through all this legislation."
Franzen added that there was a "seriousness" to the acts of civil disobedience.
"There were elderly people, some of whom have fallen through the gaps, are uninsured, are dealing with chronic illnesses, chanting 'our lives matter.' The tone felt like it would be morally inappropriate to do anything but" expand Medicaid in the state.
Republican legislators had different sentiments.

Oh, he is still alive. But he became dead to me this afternoon.

I am investigating what it takes to get a restraining order, and I am speculating pressing charges - he left a mewling message for Javier this morning. What, did he think I wasn't going to hear it?

TriSec, I am so sorry to hear this. In some ways, the death of the image you had of a person is worse than physical death. (I went through this with KGO host Bernie Ward, whom I occassionally listened to online.)
I would urge you to seek a restraining order, talk to the police, and press charges. As Clintster said, keep Javi safe. Talking to the police would be my advice for your next step Sometimes, people reveal who they are, for good or ill. I am sorry that you had to lose a friend in this way and hope that this individual will be locked away for many years to come.
