And so it goes…

The President yesterday:
This country has made real progress since the crisis six years ago. The fact is, more Americans are working. Unemployment has come down. More Americans have health insurance. Manufacturing has grown. Our deficits have shrunk. Our dependence on foreign oil is down, as are gas prices. Our graduation rates are up. Our businesses aren't just creating jobs at the fastest pace since the 1990s. Our economy is outpacing most of the world.

But we just gotta keep at it until every American feels the gains of the growing economy where it matters most, and that’s in their own lives.

Obviously, much of that will take action from Congress. And I’m eager to work with the new Congress to make the next two years as productive as possible. I’m committed to making sure that I measure ideas not by whether they are from Democrats or Republicans, but whether they work for the American people.

And that’s not to say that we won’t disagree over some issues that we’re passionate about. We will. Congress will pass some bills I cannot sign. I’m pretty sure I’ll take some actions that some in Congress will not like. That’s natural. That’s how our democracy works.

I’m pretty sure I’ll take some actions that some in Congress will not like. That’s natural. That’s how our democracy works.

I have a lot of criticisms on the way many Democratic candidates campaigned, ranging from running away from the President, to not making clear the differences between the two parties, to simply being scared of the dark money in politics. Having said that, we have all been here before. There is a documented history of 6 year midterm elections going back to the civil war. There were two exceptions. 1998 & 2002, with Bill Clinton and George W Bush. 1998 involved impeachment and the backlash from Americans, 2002 involved us in a war/conflict (let's leave it at that). We have seen this political situation before.

The thing is, politics and social change never end. It does go from cycle to cycle and Americans are a fickle bunch. There are answers and there are huge problems to surmount. Getting the grotesque amounts of dark money out of politics would be a very good start, but so will nominating better and stronger candidates. That part is difficult without money. It's a dysfunctional circle.

Dysfunctional or not, the alternative is far worse.

We've been here before, we can get through it again. Quitting is not an option. That is the opposite of actually being a part of making things better. Elections - local, city, state, and federal - happen every year, and every year there are winners and losers. That is the way it goes.

As BobR mentioned yesterday, now the other side will have to govern; What they do and how they will do it remains to be seen but if the past 6 hers are any indication (and most people with common sense know this) it doesn't look like it will be fun to watch. I take hope that in 2010 we actually tossed out a good number of conservative Dems, Sure they were replaced by the Tea Party, but in the next two years I see this wave coming to a fruition where people will finally see that they do not know how governing works. Things will shift as they have done since the founding of this Nation.

It's a new cycle, and so it goes….

I'll tell you who doesn't take a call from the President of the United States:

Olivia Pope.

Another vote past / the view in the mirror dims / ignore and repeat.

ARRRRGH!

McConnell has vowed that the chamber will be working longer hours in 2015 — and that’s just what K Street wants to hear.

“The vote-a-rama will be coming back to the Senate,” said Mike Nielsen, a partner at the all-Republican Clark Geduldig Cranford & Nielsen, referring to votes on budget amendments that can sometimes stretch on for days.

“If Congress is more active, obviously people are paying more attention. There are more things on the table,” Nielson said. “There could be more risk for companies but there are also more opportunities to accomplish things.”

Ya know, I can present myself at any RMV in this Commonwealth, and they can access my records and I can do my business with a minimum of fuss.

The technology obviously exists- I should be able to present at any polling place and do the same.

That is true, I wonder how that could be done with local and micro local elections. Asking the DMV of the state to have that information seems like a lot of problems could be had.

Good day, folks. I have to look at Salon today because there are a few articles that are hinting that the Democratic Party may be looking to throw progressives under the bus and we have all seen how well that strategy has worked before. A guarantee of low voter turnout and possibly a Fascist Republican in the White House in 2016 election.
