So I was digging around trying to write a blog and I fell down a serious rabbit hole. You will too.

Which brings me to this story: and that's funny because back in June…. and back in 2011, they blocked the Presidents infrastructure bill
I am not averse to seeing a tax placed on gas to help fix our crumbling infrastructure. I simply find what the GOP is doing is not only hypocritical, but proves once again that they only want to pay for things on the backs of the poor and middle class. It' proves that their "common sense solutions" are neither common nor sensible. For the GOP, raising taxes on the rich would be 'Punishing success'.

Common sense solution. A (usually unspecified) way to make a problem vanish without inconveniencing any job creators or real Americans, or making them pay taxes. Usage: “All across this country, women are standing up and speaking out for common sense solutions.”
Which brings me to this story:
Sen. Jim Thune (R-S.D.) signaled Sunday that Republicans might be open to negotiating increasing the gas tax in order to pay for the highway infrastructure spending bill that expires in May.
In an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Thune said that while he is opposed to increasing the gas tax, lawmakers will need to "keep all options" available when they return to Washington this week.
As a policy matter, this sounds quite sensible. As we discussed last week, the Highway Trust Fund is generally supposed to be financed by a federal gas tax, which hasn’t been raised in over two decades. Since Republicans won’t allow an increase, transportation financing has become far more challenging.
Indeed, because GOP lawmakers have refused to even consider raising the federal gas tax, federal transportation projects will face impossible hurdles for many years to come. Murphy and Corker acknowledged yesterday that the purchasing power of the gas tax “is approximately 63% of what it was in 1993, and continues to decline.”
So, as of yesterday, a bipartisan proposal is on the table that would address a serious economic problem in the short and long term. Problem solved? Not quite.
For one thing, the right is already screaming bloody murder. Republicans may be divided, but there’s one unifying belief that nearly every GOP official embraces: taxes should never go up on anyone, by any amount, at any time, for any reason.
Supporters of the failed measure said it would have created tens of thousands of construction jobs and lifted the still-struggling economy. But Republicans unanimously opposed it for its tax surcharge on the wealthy and spending totals they said were too high.

Restoring upper-level tax rates to their levels during the Clinton administration, a dark time of peace and prosperity when no one bothered to become rich because it was too painful. Usage: “If you want to punish successful people, vote for Democrats.” Synonym: punishing job creators. Usage: “We shouldn’t be punishing job creators.”

I didn't finish my thought. Monies raised by the federal gas tax are supposed to go into the highway trust fund, which is there for highway projects. The gas tax hasn't been raised in about 15 or so years. Now the Republican party wants to use it for general infrastructure repair?

My biggest issue with this whole thing is her total lack of self-awareness and ability for self-reflection. I'm sure there were plenty of her fans who were upset by the kid standing on the dog. Does she take a minute to reflect on how upsetting this is to people? No, she goes into the standard Palin defensive crouch and makes it all about how she's being victimized by PETA.

Seriously, I used to love my little town but now I just see how hateful it is and would love to have the money to move inside the beltway - sadly can't afford to buy a new place when homes smaller then mine are going for twice the price of mine.

Great article from Boston Magazine about Jim Koch & Boston Beer Co. and how some craft brew enthusiasts are turning their back on Sam Adams.
I don't get it. Despite how big Sam Adams has gotten it's still some pretty damn excellent beer, and they make some fantastic seasonals & specialty brews. And as much as I love IPAs you don't have to hop the shit outta your beer for it to be good!

I agree. Sam Adams did what every craft brewer would like to do - become a huge success. The beer is consistent and consistently great. They don't cut corners on quality and/or flavor to pad the bottom line. They consistently support the homebrew community. They even help small local microbrews with distribution.
There are other craft brewers that have done very well over the years: Sierra Nevada, Red Hook, Rogue, and Anchor to name a few. I don't get why Sam Adams gets singled out.

I will say that I have seen a lot of sub-par craft brewers in the past couple of years. I think that Mr. Koch has a damn fine point. Just read this part:

In other words, Craft brewers should respect the brewing process and understand that when you put chili in a beer, it might actually suck.
I look at brewing the same way I look at art, I appreciate artists who understand the history and the process as opposed to people who bitch that they are misunderstood.

And one more thing:
Jim Koch made a lot of money making really good brews.
He knew how to run a business.
Seems to me that this is a lot of sour grapes. He's successful and deserves to be.
He has also earned a place to judge beer.

I run into this all the time: home brewers or craft brewers who want to create the Next New Thing. They often confuse creative and different or extreme with "better". While I enjoy trying something unusual from time to time, I also want a beer I can drink day-to-day with meals or just sitting around. Every beer I drink doesn't have to be special event.

There are a couple of good craft brewers here in town. One of them, and I can't remember for the life of me remember which one has this IPA I find undrinkable because it is so damn hoppy. Intution Ale Works makes an IPA called I-10. It is hella hoppy but it has this citrusy-pineannpley finish on it. It is very slight and it cuts some of the mouth pucking bitterness.
