McCain on Spain Tries Lamely to Explain
Author: Raine    Date: 09/18/2008 12:28:57

Note: the Blog has been updated with the original ENGLISH version of the interview.

So this morning, I wake up to find that John McCain doesn't know where Spain is. Seriously. I went over to another one of my fav sites, AmericaBlog, and it was confirmed by this second source, who is fluent in spanish.

Check it out:
When asked about Spain and Zapatero, by a Spanish reporter for a Spanish newspaper, McCain responded about Mexico and Latin America. A reader suggested something that Josh had already considered, that perhaps McCain thought the reporter was talking about the Zapatistas in Mexico, the guerilla group. But that's not possible as the reporter clearly said she was talking about Spain and Spain's leader, Zapatero. She told McCain this twice. Let me tell you exactly what she asked McCain (per the translation):

"Senator, finally, let's talk about Spain. If you're elected president, would you invite President Zapatero to meet with you in the White House?"

McCain then gives this odd answer about America's friends and America's enemies. He also, oddly, talks about Mexico (why Mexico? The question was about Spain) and how he'd invite friendly leaders to the White House. She then asks him again, would that invitation include President Zapatero? He says again that he'd have to review relations first, blah blah. She then says again, "so you'd have to wait to see, so would you meet with him in the White House?" He again repeats his weird statement about friends and enemies. McCain also throws in, oddly, to the Spanish reporter, when she's asking him about meeting the Spanish president, a line about the importance of our relationship with Latin America (this is now the second time he answered a question about meeting the president of Spain with an answer about Latin America). She then says to McCain one last time:

"Okay, but I'm talking about Europe - the president of Spain, would you meet with him?"

This time, there was no room for confusion. McCain then gives this very bizarre answer:
"I will meet with any leader who has the same principles and philosophy as us in terms of human rights, democracy, and freedom and I will stand up to those who do not."

This concerns me. Deeply. This is not a minor gaffe; this was a major blunder. He thought Spain was in Latin America. He was acting as though Spain was some rogue nation. He forgot where Spain was. He forgot that Spain is a NATO ally.

How many other blunders will it take for America to realize that John McCain, POW or not, is simply not prepared to be the leader of the United States of America? I am left wondering how ill is John McCain?
Listen here.

What is wrong with this man? How sick is he? How confused is he? What DOES he actually know? This is from the mouth of a man who has touted himself as the experienced foreign policy leader, and he forgot that Spain is an ally. You will recall he forgot that Czechoslovakia no longer exists, he forgot where the border of Pakistan is, he has confused who the leaders of Russia and Germany are... how many more of these 'gaffes' will it take for the media, and AMERICA as a whole to understand that this man is indeed showing signs of dementia and truly is not going to be able to lead this nation?

Now that he has Caribou Barbie as his VP, I suspect he'll go with Dora The Explorer as Secretary of State. At least she knows her way around the world. It would be funny, if it were not so damn sad.

Today will probably be another rough one on Wall street Folks. Grab tight to your bootstraps, and let's blog.

:peace: and
Raine
(Who Actually knows where Spain is.)

As your loyal TriSec carries Castillan blood, I damn well know where Spain is.

I've also married a Cuban of Basque extraction....so I guess that makes me qualified to be Ambassador to Spain in bizarro world, yes?

Geography has long been a passion of mine, going back to grade school. This is beyond stunning. Do we really need another Alzheimer's patient in the oval office?

Have I mentioned that you rock, Raine! We had a doggies barking partay in the neighborhood around 4:00am and I need to get some sleep

Ah, here's the problem with Pres. Zapatero...

José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, 47, seized the narrow mandate he won at the polls four years ago to propel a country once gripped by religious conservatism into the liberal vanguard of Europe.

One of his first acts as prime minister was to withdraw Spanish troops from Iraq. He has pushed to legalize gay marriage and adoption by same-sex couples, reduce the role of religion in schools, grant more political power to Spain’s provinces and better integrate immigrants.

Okay, Random being a no account young lounge about knows where Spain is. (In Europe, duh. ) Seriously though, It's far west country of Europe, most of it borders water (except for the part where Portugal is) And shares it's eastern border with France.

Waaaait i get it now. To McCain Europe means France. Well, that clears that all up.

McCain, leader of all who agrees with him.

Bomb the rest.

Is there a story here that I haven't heard about, particularly re: Joe LIEberman and YouTube?

Comment by TriSec on 09/18/2008 13:38:51
Yes...posted on September 15.

Youtube changes the rules

September 15, 2008 (Computerworld) YouTube Inc. has updated its guidelines for acceptable content to ban videos that could incite violence, a move that Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) said is a direct response to his request last spring that videos sponsored by terrorist organizations like al-Qaeda be removed from the site.

YouTube had previously turned down the request from Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, that it remove video content produced by terrorist organizations that showed assassinations, the deaths of U.S. soldiers and civilians, weapons training and other material. Lieberman said such content is intended to "encourage violence against the West."

At the time, YouTube said that most of the videos Lieberman had highlighted did not violate its community standards.

The updated YouTube Community Guidelines, posted last week, note that things "like predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people's personal information and inciting others to commit violent acts or to violate the terms of use are taken very seriously."

The story also features this money quote:

"YouTube was being used by Islamist terrorist organizations to recruit and train followers via the Internet and to incite terrorist attacks around the world, including right here in the United States..."

well like I said the other day, Youtube may censor, but they are no longer the gatekeepers of video Content. The only thing they REALLY did was make themselves a little more irrelevant.

Let's play compare and contrast...
Michelle Obama’s Fashion Style

[...]

Michelle used Maria Pinto, a designer from her home town of Chicago to create the dress. Currently living the American Dream, Pinto built her business from scratch and the potential First Lady is a long-time customer. The large beaded pendant, similar to Barak Obama's rising sun campaign logo, was from Michelle’s own jewelry box. The now-famed wide V-neck Pinto "convention" dress has an estimated cost of $900.

Michelle also selected to support another up-and-coming American designer, Thakoon Panichgul, when she wore an outfit from his Resort 2009 collection, as she embraced her husband on stage at the Democratic convention, when he officially accepted his presidential nomination. The Washington Post’s Robin Givan in his September 7, 2008 article “First Ladies and the Fabric of the Nation,” estimated that the price of Michelle's outfit is around $1,500.

Cindy McCain’s Outfits

After their Tuesday night presentation at the Republican National Convention, Laura Bush and Cindy McCain found their outfits being scrutinized and priced-up by Vanity Fair magazine.

Cindy McCain appeared radiant as she stepped onto the stage in her bright buttercup-yellow Oscar de la Renta shirt dress, following in the colorful footsteps of Hillary Clinton’s convention speech pantsuit outfit in head-to-toe mango. Cindy's yellow ensemble was in stark contrast to Laura Bush’s more demure cream-colored and embroidered suit, also from leading Seventh Avenue designer Oscar de la Renta, although both ladies looked equally elegant.

Washington Post’s Robin Givan described Cindy’s dress with its giant flipped-up collar as “feminine, reserved and lovely.” Vanity Fair’s September 4th article, “Cindy McCain’s $300,000 Outfit” gave an estimated cost of both ladies’ outfits, shoes and jewelry. The magazine priced Cindy’s ensemble way above that of Laura Bush overall, due to her (trademark) 4-strand pearl necklace, diamond earrings and Chanel watch. The total outfit was estimated, by Vanity Fair, to be somewhere in the region $300,000.

That isn't from a political Site, it is straight from a fashion site.

Idle thought...

Among the many news sites I frequent is Newsvine. (If you don't go there, check it out!)

Anyway, I haven't posted too many comments...should I be offended by the right-wing tools that seem to have taken over the site?

I so wanted to respond to the guy that said "I'll be voting for the pro-America candidates" (after spouting the latest anti-Obama talking points).

I decided long ago that this kind of forum is generally irrelevant; I've got better things to do than fight trolls on their own turf, but I still use this website to get news.

Speaking of which, there's a doozy on the front page right now.

This is more of what pisses me off.

They pump in more dollars, leading to inflation -- for the single goal of keeping thier "numbers" (i.e. the Wall Street numbers) up.

Just like the Republicans f*cked up concept on education test scores, they think that certain economic scores count.

THEY DON'T.

It just screws the middle and lower income earners - via inflation - the most regressive tax.

Their definition of "fundementals" (aside from McCain's contortions) are nearly inconsequential to the regular worker. Yes, many are invested - but most are invested through pensions.

In that way, as the market goes up, pension payments DO NOT.

When the market goes down - and pensions go bust - tough sh*t.

Another example of making profit, private - and risk, public.

It seems like even though the convention is over, McCain is still pandering to the right-wing extremists instead of doing the alleged moving to the center as people are told to do. McCain now sounds so far to the right that he might fall off the edge of the earth.

Rachel made a good point last night on her show on noting on how McCain's numbers went up with Palin as VP because it energized the GOP base which wasn't really big on him. It hasn't really brought up his numbers with moderates or independents. It may show the fallcacy of moving to the center because both parties need to get their base motivated. This is also probably why Hillary being largely a centrist would have been a bad move.

The issue is broadcast vs recording studio. I'm sure that ProducerChris has a limited arsenal of "sweetening" technology available to him. Some reverb, some echo but very little in the way pitch shifting, compression etc.

Okay I have to share this. I hope you will all indulge me as it's lengthy.

I got the following email from my Independent friend, who is considering a vote for Obama although she typically leans right ( bear in mind this was sent in good humor ) :

WHY I AM VOTING DEMOCRAT

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even an d give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that open borders and government give-aways to foreigners is a great way to grow a nation.

I'm voting Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my dog.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

I'm voting Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my ass it's unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

So, I replied ( to all ), also in a sense of humor, with my responses to each item :

If I may.. . . .

WHY I AM VOTING DEMOCRAT

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

The Government will do a better job with my money than WALL ST. would. That's for sure!

I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I offend people daily. Thank goodness the Constitution allows me that freedom.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

Which 'bad guys?' Who is 'the enemy?' If it's the guys who attacked us on 9/11, well they are all dead. If it's their leader, he's most a Saudi, most likely in Afghanistan, or Pakistan.

If the 'bad guys' are the ones shooting at us it will make it harder for them if we're not there!

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

Oh, wait. You're confusing the weather man with an actual scientist.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even an d give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

They should be allowed to make a profit but not at the expense of 96% of the population.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

Fringe kook? I prefer "Moonbat," or "Commie."

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that open borders and government give-aways to foreigners is a great way to grow a nation.

It's better than shipping jobs to Dictatorships where we can get the cheapest labor.

I'm voting Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

I'm not against guns. I'm against the CRAZY breaking into my house having a gun.

I would prefer we didn't need/want guns. Can't we all get along?

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my dog.

There'd be a lot less divorce if people could marry their dogs. However, as a homosexual HUMAN, i resent being compared to an animal. Although my cats are fabulous.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

You're right. We don't need that tax. Take it from the people on the Minneapolis bridge that collapsed.

I'm voting Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my ass it's unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

Huh? What did you say?

We joked back and forth and THEN....I got a response from one of the other people on the email, whom I have never met. O. MAH. GAD!

We live in a wonderful country that allows people diverse views even if

they're wrong. I sincerely hope that you don't get what you ask for,

because I know I won't like what it does to my country. If I wanted to be a

socialist, I'd move to a socialist country...oh wait there aren't any, they

all fail except Sweden, where no one is rich, but they get lots of vacation.

People are not motivated to excel when the government takes away what they

have earned. When George Bush took office, our economy was in the toilet,

we had high interest rates and very few people could afford a house. That's

thanks to Billary. I certainly don't like some of the things he has

done(most of which involve his growing the damn government) but he took a

shit economy and an attack on our soil and he protected this country with

ideals at least that I admire. Thank God the vast majority of this country

isn't like those in the Northeast. I personally don't want to be poor and

unmotivated to strive. Its hard enough dealing with personal stress as it

is. Poverty is not on my list of long term goals. And by the way the stock

market traditionally comes back stronger than ever when it dips like this it

will again, I'd rather trust Wall Street.

I don't know where to start. . .

I agree with you. I get tired of trying to deal with idiots. I told my dad, unless he is willing to consider my point of view, don't talk to me about any politics. I told him I have spent 20 years giving him the respect of listening to him, now he can either give me the same respect or we can not talk politics. I told him I have no patience for stupidity, and I expect better than that from him. He laughed at me, and then said ok kiddo.

I said I am not joking. I told him that he might think it as important as I do, but this is by far the mot important election in my life, and even if he dosn't agree, I am fighting for his rights as well.

And then I reiterated, I have no patience for stupidity.

Curt Schilling grabs Cindy McCain's hand... and she likes it...

The Boston Herald comes forth with this amusing anecdote from the New Hampshire Speedway, where Schilling mistook John McCain's sugar momma wife for his own wife, Shonda.

The tale, as told by Shonda:

"We all got separated in this huge room with lots of people," Mrs. (Schilling) told the Track. "I walked ahead with (racing legend) Richard Petty while Curt stopped to sign autographs.

"So when he started to walk away, he grabbed Cindy's hand. She didn't seem to mind and went along with it," said Shonda
....

Yes, that is verbatim from the article.

Curt Schilling is the only Republican that gets a free pass from me.

(see Bloody Sock, circa 2004. Yes, all is forgiven after that.)

Gawd, that still gives me shivers!

Okay, so at what point do McCain ads seem more appropriate before that Billion dollar Bruckheimer movie, than somewhere between the Cotax and Captain Morgan Commercials?

McCain should be happy he didn't Follow a depends commericial.

Or for a pill talking about incontinence issues.

True, funny.

But i was making the point that they seem like movie trailers than political ads.

Coming this fall!

To a White House near you!

In a perfect world.

Another night in the salt mine. At least I got home by midnight tonight. Now, it's time to catch my Keith and Rachel fix. After I watch Colbert.
