Wondrous Woman

Happy Wednesday.

There is a lot to say about that meeting yesterday in the Oval Office.

I will leave that to better writers than myself. I will say this, we need more women at the table. Full stop.
But Pelosi (D-Calif.) instead had to listen as President Trump mansplained to her the legislative process and her role in the debate, while Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer talked over her to trade barbs mano a mano with Trump.

Yet Pelosi emerged from the meeting not some wilted flower, but a symbol of a woman who doesn’t have time for male posturing. A photo of her departing the White House, dressed in a red coat and putting on her sunglasses, instantly became a meme.
(snip)

Then he said for the cameras, as if Pelosi wasn’t even in the room, “Nancy’s in a situation where it’s not easy for her to talk right now, and I understand, and I fully understand that,” referring to the votes she still needs to win the speakership in January.

Pelosi’s response indicated she was prepared to go toe-to-toe with Trump.

“Please don’t characterize the strength that I bring to this meeting,” she told him, firmly.

Pelosi, the first woman to be speaker, is surely accustomed to being in rooms with men who speak to her in thinly veiled tones of disrespect. But few of those meetings were available for public consumption.

Yesterday, she gave a master class on how to deal with an emotionally disturbed and unstable person. She deserves to be Speaker of the House again. I can't think of any other politician in office right now more qualified than she. She showed to the country, and the world, for better or worse, how to deal with this illegitimate occupant of the White House.

She's my shero.

and

Raine

I do not understand why people constantly underestimate her.

Because they don't see a veteran statesman and savvy political operator. They see an old lady who should be home baking cookies.

and isn't that the very problem?

I love that I am lucky enough to be surrounded with Men who 'get it' -- something I am slowly learning is how many others do not.

BTW can I also say that I hope Schumer's actions during the meeting have changed some minds about him as well. He's not some corporate uber-DINO, he's a statesman which implies some willingness to compromise, and he like Nancy knows EXACTLY what he's doing.

The company (Displate) has a great re-forestation program too.

I wish they let you use your own photos to print tho. I had some good pics from when mom & I went to Newport this past summer & wanted to use em.

I read something about that being his daughter, and that looks like an arm crutch on her other arm.

Meanwhile in London... the first Motion of No Confidence against the PM since 1979 is currently under way. Voting is expected to end in about 40 minutes.

I'm not going to lie, if this means Brexit doesn't happen, I will be happy.

Although if Boris Johnson replaces Teresa May it will be an even bigger shitshow. There should be another vote because you can't consider a 51% vote on this a mandate when it effects the whole country.

No, he was mayor of London and Foreign Secretary. He's very right-wing.

Yes, quite so. He is also one of the hard-line brexiters who didn't like the softer deal that May got.
