Again?

Good morning.

I am on the road again. Southbound on I-95 through the snow forecast here in the northeast. Destination Florida. Again.

This is the third trip in four months. One for pleasure, one for Javi, and now one for necessity.

Princess Leia said it long ago in A New Hope....

"You came in here, but didn't you have a plan for getting out?"

Javi's girlfriend Aneesa is also a Disney college intern. A different program from Javi's - his was shorter - but she too must now leave the Happiest Place on Earth as her program comes to a close.

Months ago, she went down with a mountain of belongings, with the idea of moving to Florida when the program was done. It seemed like it was going to happen, until it wasn't. But that suddenly left her with a lot of things to get back north, and no way to do it.

I cannot begin to comprehend her family dynamic. It is vastly different from ours. She is a year older than Javi, and she has been essentially homeless since graduation. Her mother has long demanded that her children move out the day they turn 18, and Aneesa was no exception.

Which means - she doesn't have anyplace to go. Even worse, she doesn't drive, and flying everything home would be prohibitively expensive.

Javi in all his infinite wisdom thought he would fly down, buy a car in Florida and get it on the road, then get everybody back to Providence so they can figure out what to do next.

Yeah - that was never going to happen.

I have the vacation time and the means, so it is Your Loyal TriSec that will be heading down to do what Aneesa's family should have been able to do. I'll meet Javi at KMCO (he's flying in), and then we'll load everything up and drive home.

But it is her last day as a Disney Cast Member. Maybe I am that "Disney Adult" you might have heard tell about - I'll at least get a last goodbye (for now) underneath the arch for a day this week.

We'll return to our regularly-scheduled "Ask a Vet" next week.

Aneesa's mother sounds like a real piece of work. I assume there's no father in the picture.

My parents "ultimatum" was that after graduating high school, you either went to college or went to work. That seems quaint compared to her mother.

I suspect her mother will end up being very lonely in the future, as her kids will not be so inclined to visit very often. I know I wouldn't.

Have a safe journey, TriSec!!!

Aneesa's mother will likely find that her family will have little time for her. Like BobR, my parents wanted us to work or go to college. However, we have always been there for each other, despite what tensions might exist.

Like Charlie Brown, Tri, you're a good man.

I actually worked with a woman many years ago who had pretty much the same family dynamic. She was told at age 18 she had to get out and find her own place.

While my mother and I had our disagreements (and that's putting it mildly), I knew as long as she had a home, so did I.

I can't comprehend the mindset of parents who tell their own kids to get out and sink or swim with no support to fall back on.
