Hope this was a nice palate cleanser for the week. Maybe next week - indictment duck?

Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Good morning, bloggers!!!!

I hope that everyone is well. The kitties are adorable.

However, like BobR, I am still angry over how that facility treated LIv and everything that he went through.

Yeah, I saw Liv's birthday pop up earlier this week.

I did pause for a moment.

<-- toast to old friends long gone.

I don't think I ever knew anything about this. What happened? Are you comfortable sharing that?

He let a toe infection get out of control (and because of diabetes), so had to get part of his foot amputated. He ended up spending the next 2 years in a nursing home essentially confined to a bed while they dilly-dallied getting a prosthetic for him. They'd try, and it wouldn't fit quite right and then (it seemed) 6 months later they'd try (and fail) again. Ultimately, he died from a heart attack.

I think if he'd had money, or better insurance, or even family (or someone) to advocate for him, he might have gotten out of there a lot sooner... and might still be alive.

I actually arranged for Liv to talk with someone in the office where I used to work about some options available for him in the area where he lived and gave him the phone number for an advocacy organization which might have been able to help him.

Although I never followed up to see if he contacted them.

I suspect depression and lack of self-esteem were also factors though. Sometimes, even if you have access to possible help you may feel nothing's going to matter because you don't matter.
