DC is finally being protected from the onslaught of the invaders. What invaders, you ask? Tourists!
Members of the National Guard were present along the Mall as part of the administration’s show of force, which was trailed in advance by an insider who spoke to ABC News.

But the soldiers making up the “significant military presence” were only ever likely to encounter visitors and school children on vacation touring the capital’s historic landmarks at the height of summer, leaving the purpose of the exercise somewhat unclear.

(snip)

Residents in the capital are unlikely to see more than around a quarter of the total number of assigned Guard members on the streets at any one time, as they are working in shifts.
I joke about tourists. Tourism in huge in DC as you know, and while this is the time of year that we generally don't go to museums because we are local, they are not problematic. The last paragraph is bolded because residents of DC should not be seeing NG members at all. Same goes for ICE, the FBI, and other federal law enforcement. As an aside, we were told that they were simple tourists on January 6 and the felon-in-chief refused to call up the DC National Guard.

Welcome to life in a police state.

This is no different from October of 1768, when British Troops were sent to Boston to "enforce" the Townshend Acts.

Perhaps, just for once, the GOP being ignorant of history and planning to repeat it might work out in our favour.

GLENN: You look fabulous in that suit

TRUMP: That's the one that attacked you last time

ZELENSKYY: I remember that. You're in the same suit. I changed mine.

Actually, I've been thinking about this off and on all day. It's that last comment, about the tourists, that's been bugging me.

"But the soldiers making up the “significant military presence” were only ever likely to encounter visitors and school children"

This normalizes it. Anyone visiting at this time of year, more particularly in the Red states, will answer the question.

Did you see the troops? What was going on?

Yeah, we saw them. All was quiet and calm and nothing happened.

And just like that, the military on the streetcorners is normal in the United States.
