Let it begin here

Good Morning.

Headed out for Waltham Common very soon for today's skirmish.

"No Kings" is allegedly non-violent. I very often advocate the other way, and I have been all morning on Bluesky, with pithy quotes from our Founding Fathers.

Nevertheless - I have no plans on rabble-rousing today.

Unless I have to. Should any Fascists appear, or worse, start any trouble - I would expect to be in the middle of it. My forebears may have been scared shitless on 6 June 1944 in France....but they did their duty. I shall do mine.

Remember what should be the quote of the day. Captain John Parker, Lexington Green, 19 April 1775.

Just after sunrise Parker and his 77 militiamen stood in defiance of the British advance guard. "Stand your ground," Parker ordered. "Don't fire unless fired upon. But, if they want to have a war, let it begin here."

Updates later today. Possibly pictures; I'm on the fence about whether or not to bring my phone for photography. Right now on my person I only have my house key and my passport.

Tri,

I love you and your study of history; I study as well.

One difference between you and I (and this is nothing more than an observation) I go to protests not expecting violence. In recent years, I have developed a protest backpack. it now includes swim goggles. I don't go expecting the worst. I go to do otherwise, always with a thought that otherwise could occur.

The collective of No Kings is more powerful than we realize. Jan 6th was a lame ass American version of Kristallnacht (neo nazis are stupid, shitty, not well organized, and our constitution still stands. Maybe injured, but still...) These rallies are a pushback, and so far, authoritarianism is not working with 'we the people.'

I really hope I am on point with this.

The GOP tone deafness is ABSOLUTE.

"I think for the average American and the average citizen of Massachusetts, it doesn't mean a lot frankly," said MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale.

Waltham was larger than last time. We were lining both sides of the major streets (Main Street and Moody Street) all around City Hall Plaza.

Not a single fascist was noted. A single Cybertruck drove past, but no pushback, not even a random car with any "Trump" defacement was seen.

That said - I feel like the Waltham PD tried to intimidate the crowd. More than a few times, a formation of several patrol cars drove past "Airshow Center" on Main Street with lights and sirens blazing.

We paid them little note. Not even a Boston one-finger salute.

Part of my trolley PTSD, I'm afraid. I was conditioned to EXPECT the worst to happen, so I am always prepared for "Fight or Flight" in any given situation.

Sadly, I had to miss the march yesterday due to a pre-scheduled event I help organize. Bad timing, but this was planned months in advance.
