Good morning.

Today is our 2, 434th day in Iraq.

We'll start this morning as we always do, with the latest casualty figures from Iraq and Afghanistan, courtesy of Antiwar.com:

American Deaths
Since war began (3/19/03): 4362
Since "Mission Accomplished" (5/1/03): 4223
Since Capture of Saddam (12/13/03): 3899
Since Handover (6/29/04): 3503
Since Obama Inauguration (1/20/09): 134

Other Coalition Troops - Iraq: 325
US Military Deaths - Afghanistan: 916
Other Military Deaths - Afghanistan: 597
Contractor Employee Deaths - Iraq: 1,395
Journalists - Iraq: 335
Academics Killed - Iraq: 431

We find this morning's cost of war passing through:

$930, 122, 900, 000 . 00

On this Veteran's Day eve, please take a moment to look over IAVA's 'Veteran's Week' page. Surely you can find some way to help our vets tomorrow?

As for me, I'll be leading a contingent of Cub Scouts to neighboring Concord, MA and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery to participate in the anuual flag retirement ceremony.

If your flag is starting to show it's age; check around your neighborhood, as there are similar events going on around the country. Most VFWs also have a drop box out front where you can leave your old flag for a dignified 'retirement'.

Alas, this Veteran's Day is not without sorrow. The Army is still reeling from last week's events at Fort Hood. Of course, the media isn't helping matters any, since the only thing that matters is the "Muslim-sounding name" of the shooter. Nevermind what was really going on in his mind, or his heart, that might have led to his catastrophic breakdown.

While there should probably be an investigation, and perhaps a review of mental health services in the army and the incredible pressures they bring to those healthcare providers, it's likely not going to happen.

Nay, here in the Northeast, we know why those soldiers were gunned down in cold blood.

It's Muslims.

And our erstwhile Senator Joe Lieberman (Cloud-Cuckoo Land, CT) is leading the charge.

Most people thought that blaming the student culture at Virginia Tech for what happened at Fort Hood was a ludicrous statement. But now some people want to blame Muslims for the atrocities.

While the investigators don't want to simply call the motive a "jihad", Sen. Joe Lieberman (aka Traitor Joe) has gone ahead and blamed Muslims for what happened. Not a birther, not a Republican, not a Conservative talk show host, but Joe Lieberman from Connecticut.

The US Army has made it a stated policy that they are not gong to simply blame "Islamic Jihads" as a motive while at the same time trying to avoid outcasting Muslims who are serving in the military. According to the FBI, Hasan action is not connected or part of any major terrorist plot to attack Americans. Its a simple case of a guy going postal.

Yet, Traitor Joe wants a Congressional hearing to determine if Hasan's Islamic belief was a motive for the attack. This is basically a nice way of Lieberman saying that he is blaming all Muslims for what happen and is encouraging inner community violence.

Its obvious that Lieberman has a deep hatred of the Muslim faith and now is going to use his congressional power to scapegoat a religion because of the actions of one lunatic.

And seeing his position on the Healthcare debate, why doesn't he do everyone a favor and just freakin' flip? But, I digress.

What Lieberman is trying to do is turn this into the first successful terrorist attack on this country since 9/11, when it is nothing more than a single individual whose only tie to extremism was in relation to his work as a psychiatrist. I don't think Lieberman cares whether or not his actions give the Republicans ammunition against Obama and the Dems. In fact I think that's exactly what he wants - revenge.

I don't blame the military either for promoting this guy, but he did have a history of being despondent and having a slightly insubordinate edge that they should have picked up on before promoting him to the rank of Major and sending him to Ft. Hood.

BTW was listening to the radio on the way in and a lady called in to say that her vet brother had been counseled by Hasan at Walter Reed while she was visiting. Her description of him was that he was "emotionally emtpy".

Good morning everyone.

It seems like another morning where everyone's too busy to blog. I just woke up a few minutes ago and the cat wanted to go frolic outside so I let her out.

Morning all. Scoop, I agree with Raine. You have pretty much said what I've been thinking. One thing, though; a major in the Army is still considered a junior officer. It is pretty typically the rank most hit before they are "upped or out" of the service.

Pat Robertson, Oily Tartz attempt to break out of their obscurity by invoking the Ft. Hood shooting.

These people are sick.. but do us all a favor and don't repost this. These two idiots don't deserve the attention.

So, Pat by your logic we should be treating your theological ideas as a fringe political movement?

Portland does need the state specification.

PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) - A gunman killed two people in a strip mall in Tualatin, a small city south of Portland, Oregon, police said on Tuesday.

The suspect was in custody, according to police in Tualatin, 13 miles from Portland. Two other victims are being treated in hospital after the shooting, which took place at a drug-testing facility, the police said in a statement.

There is a heightened awareness of shootings in the United States after 13 people were killed and 30 wounded by a gunman at the Fort Hood U.S. Army base in Texas last week.
