The March of the Anti-s
Author: BobR    Date: 09/02/2015 14:29:50

This past Friday, Raine and I went to see Lizz Winstead as she brought her Lady Parts Justice program to the Black Cat in DC. It's a serious look at the anti-abortion movement, wrapped in comedy and a little pathos. Eight women came to the stage and described their abortion experience, destroying the pre-conceived notions that the anti-abortion crusaders wish to sell to advance their horrible agenda.

Part of the underlying message, perhaps not overtly spelled out, is that controlling the message is important. We're not "pro-abortion", we're pro-choice and pro-women's health, and pro-women's autonomy over their own bodies. They are not "pro-life", they are anti-choice. The Lady Parts Justice team kept referring to them as "anti-s", which I think should be the norm for everyone going forward. I will never refer to them as pro-lifers again.

Naturally, Planned Parenthood is a big target in Washington, even though 97% of the services they provide are normal healthcare, such as cancer screenings. The Senate is once again trying to defund them, and Senate Majority Leader McConnell (R-KY) admits that they are once again tilting at windmills. Just like repealing "Obamacare" is a lost cause, despite the numerous attempts, they keep at it. It's election-ad-politics at its worst.

Despite only being scheduled for 132 work days this year, the Republicans in the House and Senate have been busy crafting anti-abortion bills they know will never be enacted into law, instead of - you know - working on bills to fix our crumbling infrastructure, or something else useful.

Here are some of the anti-abortion bills crafted by the anti-s, just in 2015 so far:

S. 1881: A bill to prohibit Federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

H.R. 36: Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act

H.R. 3134: Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015

S. 1836: Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015

H.R. 217: Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act

H.R. 816: Life at Conception Act

S. 48: Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act of 2015

H.R. 426: Sanctity of Human Life Act

H.R. 940: Health Care Conscience Rights Act

H.R. 610: To amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to audit States to determine if such States used Medicaid funds in violation of the Hyde Amendment and other Federal prohibitions on funding for abortions, and for other purposes.

S. 582: No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015

H.R. 492: Ultrasound Informed Consent Act

H.R. 3301: To prohibit Federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

H.R. 3197: Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act of 2015

H.R. 803: Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act

H.R. 489: Taxpayer Conscience Protection Act of 2015

H.R. 1695: Parental Notification and Intervention Act of 2015

H.R. 281: Every Child is a Blessing Act of 2014

S. 404: Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act

H.R. 463: PRO-LIFE Act

S. 78: Pregnant Women Health and Safety Act

S. 51: Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act

S. 220: Health Care Provider and Hospital Conscience Protection Act

S. 50: Abortion Non-Discrimination Act of 2015

Does this seem like a lot? It does to me. The names of the bills are designed to be used in ads against the Democrats who vote against them. Also as a disclaimer - these are the one's I found based on the name. There may be others with less obvious names, and then there are the "poison pill" amendments added to other bills.

The anti-s (and those posing as anti-s for election purposes) are a scourge on freedom and liberty. The first step is educating the public, and then calling them out for what they are. Messaging does matter.
