Good Morning.

Let us ponder the question - "What difference does it make to veterans who is President"?

In my personal opinion, it actually matters very little. The institutional problems at the Veteran's Administration predate Mr. Trump. They predate Mr. Obama, Mr. Bush, and many more presidents. Each of them in turn has promised to fix the problems, but as often happens - other pressures draw away attention and resources, and little more than cosmetic changes have happened under each of these administrations.

Is Joe Biden different?

Well, he just may be. He does have extensive platform positions regarding the veteran's community, but like all politicians, there's a lot of platitudes there as well.

There is nothing partisan about improving support for service members, veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors. As president, Joe Biden will unite the country and restore the VA as the premier agency for ensuring our veterans’ overall well-being by:

Providing Veterans World Class Health Care to Meet Their Specific Needs

Driving Progress to Eliminate Veterans Homelessness and Bring Down Suicide Rates

Creating Meaningful Employment and Educational Opportunities

Improving VA Management and Accountability.

To support the VA mission, a Biden Administration will ensure coordination with the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), state agencies, and the thousands of non-governmental organizations that support this vital community. It will work faithfully to restore public trust in the VA so that no one in the military community or beyond will ever again question whether the United States of America keeps its promises to those who serve our country.

Joe is closer to veterans than many of his predecessors. As you know, his late son Beau served in the Delaware National Guard, and was deployed overseas to Iraq. While he was a lawyer and never fired a shot in anger - he still wore the uniform and put his life in danger as a member of the United States Armed Forces.

This does make President-Elect Biden unique among recent Presidents by having a child who served the country. I didn't research it too hard, but the last child of a president I could think of with military service is actually George W. Bush. (But that is suspect, if you remember the whole AWOL controversy.)

In any case, tomorrow is the first Veteran's Day of the new era. I trust our acting President will have something memorable and honorable to say. He, at least, understands "What's in it for them?"
