Season Finale
Author: Raine    Date: 07/21/2022 13:01:03

Tonight at 8 pm, the last scheduled January 6 hearing will begin. I say scheduled because this one wasn't even on the schedule when they were originally announced a few months ago.

Since then they have been adding more and more public hearings, and while this may be the last one, it seems for like a first season of 'J6: how they pulled a near-lethal blow to Democracy'.

January 6 2021 was a day of hell, and as we find out more, it really was nearly the end of out democracy. If what I am reading is true, we are going to learn some details that we didn't know -- and I include myself as a very close watcher of all the events that led up to the day of the attempted coup and the months since.

Tonite's hearing is titled ‘187 Minutes’
“The story we’re going to tell tomorrow is that in that time, President Trump refused to act to defend the Capitol as a violent mob stormed the Capitol with the aim of stopping the counting of electoral votes and blocking the transfer of power,” a Select Committee aide told reporters.

During its seventh hearing, the Jan. 6 Committee disclosed that Trump made last-minute changes to his speech and on-the-spot ad libs to inflame the crowd against his then-vice president Mike Pence. Trump changed his approach after Pence announced that he did not have the legal power to unilaterally block the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory, the committee revealed.

“We’re going to talk about when he was made aware of what was going on Capitol,” an aide said. “We’re going to hear testimony from individuals who spoke to the president. We’re going to hear testimony from individuals in the West Wing who were aware of what the President was doing.”
We are going to learn a lot more about the people the West Wing was communicating with, it appears. I have read all of my free rolling Stone articles this month so forgive the Raw Story excerpt.
One source told the magazine, “they have plans to paint a really striking picture of how some of Trump’s greatest enablers of his coup plot were — no matter what they’re saying today — quaking in their boots and doing everything shy of crying out for their moms."

“If any of [these lawmakers] were capable of shame, they would be humiliated," the source added.

Thursday's hearing will also reportedly feature new video evidence.

"The bulk of the Thursday night hearing is expected to focus on Trump’s actions during the insurrection, including whether he took any action to defuse the riot at a time when lawmakers were under attack," the magazine reported. "But using photos and footage to slap down MAGA lawmakers’ claims of a 'tourist visit' from 'peaceful patriots' is part of a broader effort to bring reality to bear on a fictitious, pro-Trump reimagining of Jan. 6."

Seriously, something has to give with the members of Congress who enabled and acted in concert with the coup planning. Until they are held to account, it seems they are, in fact, above the law.

So I expect a season two of these hearings. They have until January 6 2023 if we don't keep the House majority in Democratic hands on election day.
