A series of observations.

Good Morning.

Yesterday, I drove down to Providence to pay a visit to the police station.

A few days ago, we heard from the investigating officer - and there has been nothing new to report. There are rumors of an observer taking a video of the event, but so far nothing useful has surfaced. Many businesses have cameras in the area of the incident, but naturally those cameras are all aimed at doors and windows, and none even captured a snippet of anything.

Nevertheless, I went to get a copy of the police report. I know now the address, and the specific time of the incident. Curiously, it was within walking distance of Roger Williams Medical Center, but Javi was transported crosstown to Rhode Island Hospital instead.

So here we are. They got nuthin'. But why am I really posting about nothing? It's because of the nice officer in the records department. She could have just as easily been a faceless beurocrat, but she skimmed the report and handed it over...then asked in a rather sincere manner, "Is he better now?" Just a wee bit of humanization from what could have just as easily been an anonymous transaction. Well done, Providence PD.

And then Javi came home with me for the weekend. Here it is - I have to go to Florida AGAIN at the end of the month. Now it's time to rescue his almost-fiance Aneesa. I won't delve too deeply into her family situation, but it strikes me as rather odd. She is finishing up her Disney program on March 2, and has no way to get home. Javi was going down to try to rescue her, but their plan involved buying a car and getting it on the road to get everything home.

Sensing disaster, I instead will be driving down the coast in a minivan to get them back up to Providence. And perhaps a wee little fallout from COVID. When tourism crashed a few years back, all the rental companies sold all their cars, so it costs almost three times as much for a one-way rental from Florida. It will be cheaper by several hundred dollars to rent one up here and drive back and forth. All that costs extra would be time.

Since Javi is home for a couple of days, we had to stop at the supermarket on the way home, and he and I both observed a dozen eggs. No, they're not locked behind security glass like high-end electronics, but I note that locally they are about $4.19 for a dozen white eggs.

I've heard about the avian flu; increases in feed pricing, and supply chain issues like we all have. But my own eyes tell me different. If indeed there was a shortage or supply issue, shouldn't the shelves be bare? All the eggs were stocked; ordinary kinds, organic, fancy, you name it. Floor-to-ceiling in many of the coolers. If there was a supply chain issue, shouldn't the shelves be bare? Instead, I see the shelves full, likely because the price is so high and nobody is buying them.

I imagine this will self-correct, if thousands of eggs suddenly need to be thrown out because they've gone bad...perhaps the price will start to fall if demand is so low.
