Hate is Deadly
Author: Raine    Date: 08/06/2012 15:01:51

Another week, another shooting... This time it was a military veteran, discharged in 1998 after having been part of a Psy-Ops, serving in both Fort Bliss and Fort Bragg before being discharged. He was never deployed, according to this report.
According to sources in the U.S. Army, Page enlisted in April 1992 and was discharged from the Army in 1998 "under honorable conditions," which is less than honorable discharge. While not as negative as a dishonorable discharge, such a release would preclude one from reenlisting or entering another military service, sources explained to Fox News.

Page served at Fort Bliss, Texas, in the psychological operations unit in 1994, and was last stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., attached to the psychological operations unit. He was an E4 psychological operations specialist, but was never deployed. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct award, the National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and Parachutist Badge.

Southern Poverty Law Center has this information:
In 2010, Page, then the leader of the band End Apathy, gave an interview to the white supremacist website Label 56. He said that when he started the band in 2005, its name reflected his wish to “figure out how to end people’s apathetic ways” and start “moving forward.” “I was willing to point out some of my faults on how I was holding myself back,” Page said. Later, he added, “The inspiration was based on frustration that we have the potential to accomplish so much more as individuals and a society in whole.” He did not discuss violence in the interview.

Page told the website that he had been a part of the white power music scene since 2000, when he left his native Colorado on a motorcycle. He attended white power concerts in Georgia, North Carolina, West Virginia and Colorado. At various times, he said, he also played in the hate rock bands Youngland (2001-2003), Celtic Warrior, Radikahl, Max Resist, Intimidation One, Aggressive Force and Blue Eyed Devils. End Apathy, he said, included “Brent” on bass and “Ozzie” on drums; the men were former members of Definite Hate and another band, 13 Knots.
Reports are that he joined the White power movement in 2000. Among his other tattoos, one was a 911 remembrance tattoo.

So there is a little background; disturbing to say the least. Then there is this: He had recently broke up with his girlfriend. His guns were purchased legally. So what do we make of all this?

I don't know, I just don't know -- but I will say this.... those people that promote White nationalism, those that promote hate under the guise of white pride have blood on their hands, and they know it.
American white supremacists expressed concern on web forums on Sunday that the mass killing at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin might hurt their cause.

Analysis by the SITE terrorist monitoring service of extremist online chat found commentators gloomily predicting that the attack would strengthen the hand of minority groups and gun control advocates.

“This isn't good folks, no matter which way you slice it! Damn,” declared a webuser posting as “Proud White Chap” as news broke of the shooting, in which six people plus the shooter died.

“I fully expect Jewish, Black, Latino, Muslim and Gay special interest groups railing against our right to guns,” he predicted, adding: “All because of some mental case or buffoon nitwit.”

"JoeyJoeJoe" on the Stormfront "white nationalist" forum posted: “We'll probably hear how he thought they were Muslims and went on some rant. GOD DAMMIT. I'm sick of these God damn idiots ruining the reputation of our race," he complained.”
Stormfront member "whitehouse90310" warned: "This was a BIG mistake if white nationalists were involved. Let's hope they are white Muslims."
Thier cause is hate. Hate kills - time and time again, it is proven. Hate talk, hate radio, hate groups, hate books -- it ends up being deadly. This is who they are. They are Right Wing Extremists.

How soon we forget things like this? On the 15th Anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing, on the bank of the Potomac river, in 2010.
They came in camouflage and ammunition vests, carrying AK-47s slung over their shoulders and pistols in their hip holsters. They were in Northern Virginia, on the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, to stand on federal land and to voice violent thoughts.
(snip)
The 19th of April has acquired a unique mythology of resistance and violence: the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, the Warsaw ghetto uprising in 1943, the sacking of the Branch Davidian compound in 1993, the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. Now the date has a new significance as the moment when the militia movement went from the blogs and the backwoods, mustered across the river from the capital, and invited the world's media to come in and hear its warnings.
(snip)
The demonstrators brought their guns to Virginia from New Mexico, New Hampshire, Florida and elsewhere. Among the group was Tim Hammond, who carried two pistols, a rifle and plenty of ammunition as part of an all-black outfit that included a black tricorn hat. Hammond, who said he flew in from California, told another demonstrator he believes that President Obama is the antichrist.

"If he's not the antichrist, he's pretty close," the second man concurred.

I could go on.... But hate is hate. Hate kills.

When will this end?

and
Raine

Edited to add: the Right is STILL in denial about the hate they sow.

We make a huge mistake when we assume that people are completely rational. We are guided by our emotions as well.

In the case of the shooter, he may have targeted Sikhs either thinking that they were Muslims or because they were not Caucausian Christians -- perhaps the only legitimate category of human being being to this racist.

Raine, thank you for a great blog. However, I am still afraid for my country and to an extent afraid of it. I know that at any moment, someone who does not fit someone else's criteria of a human being may be targeted for murder. As a Jew, I have realized that this has been the case through out history. The recent holiday of Tisha B'Av recalled not just the destruction of the First and Second Temples but the expulsion of Jews from England, France and Spain. In Spain, Jews had been part of the social fabric for hundreds of years and two rulers decided that they alone could decide who was a legitimate member of society.

We must combat hate with compassion and acceptance of others. We must remember to love our neighbors as ourselves and do not do unto another what we would not wish done to ourselves. In the end, I feel that those who traffic in hate and violence will be defeated. The arch of history bends towards justice, but it is a long process. I do have hope. Younger generations seem to reject hatred more than their elders did. May the day come soon when we shall, in the spirit and words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. judge others solely on the content of their character, their deeds and the quality of their ideas.

For now, I mourn with the people of Oak Creek and the Sikh community. A gun man could just as easily targeted my temple on Friday night. As someone who realizes that hatred is still alive in our society, I long for the day when bigotry is buried on the dung heap of history. On that day, should I live that long, I will rejoice.

thank you for that Will.

I am deeply reminded of the Tennessee Church killings... It is oft forgot that that man, Jim Adkisson went there to SPECIFICALLY target liberals. I wanted to that in the blog as well.

It's disturbing because it CAN happen in your neighborhood, Church, movie theatre. -- that is why I Call it terrorizing.

And then there is this: From Central Florida. This happened in MAy.
American Front members may have thought they were inconspicuously preparing for an inevitable race war, but the group has long been tracked by authorities.

A two-year criminal investigation into the white-supremacist group has led to the arrests of 10 members since Friday — including American Front leaders Marcus and Patricia Faella, known and respected by members across the country.

I am glad to see that this was stopped.

I was waiting for it. I am just SICK to my stomach about this.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a group that has studied hate crimes for decades, reported Monday that Page was a frustrated neo-Nazi who had been the leader of a racist white-power band known as End Apathy.

Heidi Beirich, director of the center's intelligence project, said her group had been tracking Page since 2000, when he tried to purchase goods from the National Alliance, a well-known hate group.

The National Alliance was led by William Pierce, who was the author of "The Turner Diaries." The book depicts a violent revolution in the United States leading to an overthrow of the federal government and, ultimately, a race war. Parts of the book were found in Timothy McVeigh's getaway car after the bombing of the federal building Oklahoma City in 1995.

Beirich said there was "no question" Page was an ardent follower and believer in the white supremacist movement. She said her center had evidence that he attended "hate events" around the country.

"He was involved in the scene," she said.

Pierce is dead, and Beirich said the National Alliance is no longer considered to be an influential group.

Also on Monday, a volunteer human-rights group called Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) found links between Page, his band and a white supremacist website called Stormfront.

Update: Award is Now Being Offered in Joplin Islamic Mosque Fire

By: Katie Love
Updated: August 6, 2012

Update: The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever may have caused today's fire. The Washington-based Muslim civil rights organization is in touch with the FBI about the case.

The CAIR called for stepped-up police protection at Muslim institutions and other houses of worship nationwide after hearing about the Joplin fire and after yesterday's deadly shooting at a Sikh temple in Washington.

(JOPLIN, MO)-- The Islamic Mosque in Joplin is on fire for the second time this summer.

Firefighters were called to the mosque on Black Cat Rd. around 3:30 Monday morning.

When crews arrived, the west side of the building was on fire, but it quickly spread.

The entire mosque has burned to the ground..

So we have a preliminary list of GOP Speakers.

Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the party's 2008 presidential nominee, former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and the governors of two must-win states, Florida's Rick Scott and John Kasich of Ohio, are among those who will address the Republican National Convention, which runs Aug. 27-30. Two female state chief executives, Gov. Nikki Haley (S.C.) and Gov. Susana Martinez (N.M.), will also have prominent speaking slots, according to the Tampa Bay Times, which first reported the list.

missing (for now) ?
Conspicuously missing from the speakers list are those thought to be Romney's vice presidential finalists: Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio), Rep. Paul Ryan (Wisc.), Gov. Bobby Jindal (La.), Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (Va.), Sen. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty. It's difficult to imagine that some, if not all of them, will not eventually get their moment on the podium in Tampa.

Also absent, for the moment at least, are other marquee party names, such as 2008 vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, Gov. Chris Christie (N.J.), Rep. Eric Cantor (Va.), House Speaker John Boehner (Ohio), and a newly minted tea party favorite Senate candidate Ted Cruz (Tex.).

Had this discussion with my brother over the weekend. While it sounds like a lot a thousand rounds of ammunition isn't that much. You can easily burn through about 200 rounds at the gun range. So the rub is how much is too much in month? Or do we just keep track of the number of rounds in a month purchased?

So if we go with the pseudoephedrine model. I can by 1 package of 20 caplets in a month. What is I say have 4 or 5 hands guns of different calibers? Am I limited to 1 box of ammo a month per gun? What if I do competion shooting? How do we stop smurfing?

You can buy more than one package a month. You can buy more than one package at a time. You could buy as much as you want -- but you may very well get flagged. That is a risk one could take.

I need Sudafed -- I sign for it at least once a month. I don't like it at all. Personally I am more scared of Meth Addicts with Guns than Meth addicts themselves.

As far as competition Shooting -- let the arena for shooting keep track of the bullets brought in. We can regulate ammunition. You buy 10 different types of bullets, one can safely assume what you are up to.

I hope that Tri catches this story. It's pretty damn awesome
Under the new legislation, protests must be held at least 300 feet from military funerals and are prohibited two hours before or after a service. The law counters a 2011 Supreme Court ruling, which found that displays such as Westboro's were protected under the First Amendment.

Members of the church responded defiantly to a Huffington Post report following Congress' passage of the bill, claiming that the law's restrictions could also have an effect on counter-demonstrations organized in response to Westboro's attempts to disrupt military services.

Two of these counter-efforts drew national attention last month, when large groups of people turned out in both Missouri and in Texas in an attempt to create "human walls" to shield attendees of military funerals from Westboro's demonstrations.
