First things First....

*** We now have a dedicated page for Shane-O's sound bits ***
*** from the Stephanie Miller Show!!! ***
Shane-O has uploaded his sounds, and will be maintaining that page, uploading the bits a week after they first appear on the show.

Temporarily, there is a link on the menu bar. Within the next day or so, we should have a real button there instead.
==============================================

The Following is from MoveOn. And with all the sniping and bitterness of this past weekend, I think it is more and more important that we keep the focus on who we MUST beat in the General Election...
10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):
  1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.

  2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."

  3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.

  4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."

  5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.

  6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.

  7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

  8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.

  9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."

  10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.

This is important stuff. As this primary season drags on, the Demcratic party faces the dilemma of watching some of the more conservative, moderate and independent voters walk away from voting altogether or deciding that McCain is close enough to being a dem. Yes, I have seen these words written, on liberal message boards. We have mentioned here - on this blog - talk of some of our own party members becoming McCain Dems.

We must not let this happen. The man is not a maverick, and he is not a moderate. He is more of the same, More neo-conservatism, more war, more anti-environment, more big corp economics, more anti-children, more anti abortion, more bigoted policies... More of what we have had for the past 8 years, at the very least. The SCOTUS will have at least 2 vacancies during the next administration... This is our last chance to balance the nations highest court for probably the next 20 years (yes - 20 years).

It is time that we the people who care about the GE, get the word out, because the media is not. The headlines over the weekend were appalling, and not about John McCain. So until this primary is over, it is our job to pass this on because the change must - right now - be with us.

It's Monday, we have some great sound clips to giggle with (thanks Shane-o, Momma & the Mooks!) So I will see you inside.

:peace: and
Raine

Good Morning!

And am armed and ready for another monday in the political trenches... :coffee2:

Comment by Shane-O on 04/14/2008 12:58:37
Great post Raine - and it's good to see it ALL in one place. Hopefully, McCain "flip-floppiness" will also be examined in the upcoming general.

1. The easy war

2. Gay marriage

3. The Bush tax cuts

4. The Christian far-right

5. Ethanol

But the most important, as you point out, is SCOTUS! Ginsberg and Stevens are hoping for a Dem in the White House, I'd bet.

Comment by Raine on 04/14/2008 13:00:48
Ginsberg and Stevens are hanging int here by a thread...

Does anyone know how Nancy Pelosi is doing in the polls?

Here's another challenger for her seat, and this one's on the Democratic side.

Between this lady, who's supported by ActBlue, and Cindy Sheehan, I have a feeling Nancy's going to have a *real* run for her money this year.

DJ, has his own internet talk radio station, so I think, to a certain extent, he's promoting that - and it's a fun station (Roach Radio). The stuff I do is just a hobby - his bits are actually well produced! I'll email you DJ's email address, Raine. I'm so sorry. But, not to be a Little Mary Sunshine on you, maybe this is for the best. You've seemed *very* down about what's been going there lately. Is it possible to add the feature that's at the seder blog where you can see the names of the "online and active" users who are logged in?

I've always liked that particular setup. It's nice to see who's around and we wouldn't have to post a "is there anyone here?" comment just to find out if we're "alone" on the blog.

You know, it is a little amusing, that I actually DID consider getting a weapon for protection... because of what this administration is doing, so yeah, I understand what he said.

And as far as elite, and the things such as this, I have always held the belief that I want someone to be president who I would NEVER have a drink with, I actually want them to be smarter and more intelligent than me.

Dutch oven cooking, check!

Scaring the kids on a night-hike, check!

I am pleased to report that my woodsman skills seem to be intact, despite a 6-year layoff.

And in other news, I'm supposed to be offended because Obama called me "bitter"? So am I to infer that this means that Hilary voters are all happy and warm and fuzzy and are frolicking with bunnies in the unemployment line?

Billy Joel is bitter...

Allentown

Well we're living here in Allentown

And they're closing all the factories down

Out in Bethlehem they're killing time

Filling out forms

Standing in line

Well our fathers fought the Second World War

Spent their weekends on the Jersey Shore

Met our mothers in the USO

Asked them to dance

Danced with them slow

And we're living here in Allentown

But the restlessness was handed down

And it's getting very hard to stay

Well we're waiting here in Allentown

For the Pennsylvania we never found

For the promises our teachers gave

If we worked hard

If we behaved

So the graduations hang on the wall

But they never really helped us at all

No they never taught us what was real

Iron and coke

And chromium steel

And we're waiting here in Allentown

But they've taken all the coal from the ground

And the union people crawled away

Every child had a pretty good shot

To get at least as far as their old man got

But something happened on the way to that place

They threw an American flag in our face

Well I'm living here in Allentown

And it's hard to keep a good man down

But I won't be getting up today

And it's getting very hard to stay

And we're living here in Allentown

Frankly, I think Steph is guilty of doing exactly what she says the MSM does, namely dealing in short little sound bites( that she uses to slip in a snide remark or a joke without having any substance and then cutting off the caller when she is done with them).

She does the same thing when she appears on the pundit shows. How many times have you seen Stephanie fail to answer a question but instead throw out a non sequiteur pre-written statement that is just meant to be entertaining.

What a self-promoting shallow bitch.

I think it's because employers now check the credit ratings of prospective employees before they hire them. I believe the pitch is if you have a crappy credit rating, you won't get a well-paying job and will have to settle for something less attractive.

I wonder if that counts the people who are hired to play Disney characters in the theme parks and get punched by some children.

OOOH!!!

I just got what you're talking about.

Yeah, the commercials are a bit of a leap. You need an accompanying diagram to figure out how they "got there." The marketing people must have had an Associative Thinking session before creating that one.

"Ok...so, if your credit gets stolen and then you have to file Bankruptcy, you might lose your house, and your job, and your car, and your spouse, and all of your clothes, except for your vintage Pirate Hate and your Hawaiin shirt. Unfortuately, the candidates websites do not always deal with specifics (see McCain's site) They, with the exception of John Edwards, make general statements about what needs to be done but say NOTHING about how to achieve those goals. According to Stephanie, you have to go to an event to hear the specifics from the candidates mouth.

So that I have not been here often. I have been subbing a lot of late.

I also have some good news: I have a job interview at 3 PM Central. So, I will be checking in before and after.

By the way, I did manage to work in a Four Freedoms plug in a creative way in the thread

I asked on a local message board where I might be able to find blue recycling bags other than getting them from standard grocery stores where I generally don't shop.

Someone replied that she left her recyclables out in bags that weren't blue and
they always picked them up anyway.

And almost certainly they *weren't* being picked up as recyclables.

Yeesh......

Thom is too polite to go after her like Randi. He does seem a little too willing to give her the benefit of the doubt while Randi isn't afraid to call her on her shit.

Today's Randi show should be interesting even if I can only hear the first hour until I leave for work. Unless WWRL or satellite radio pick her up, I will be glued to the computer to listen to her show like I have to do for Steph and most of Thom.

Signed. I personally would LOVE to see AAR have a 6 am to 9 am slot again. OK, I guess they have one now, but, bill press is certainly not wake up radio for me.

Since when is Bill Press Air America? He's always been Jones Radio.

I thought that is who I hear in the mornings before Momma comes on. Maybe I am getting things confusled... I usually turn on Pheonix in the morning, and I thought (for some reason) that Bill press was on, and I assumed he was AAR. Do I need a spanking?

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain has confided to his inner circle that Hillary Clinton may yet be the Democratic nominee, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, a development the senator from Arizona would personally welcome!

"Look, I know something about long odds, they had me written off last summer," McCain explained over the weekend, according to a top source.

McCain would prefer to go up against Clinton in the general election, insiders reveal.

He has instructed his campaign staff to "chill out" on countering Hillary Clinton's torrent of claims and promises as primary voting comes to an end over the next 6 weeks.

McCain made the tactical decision to downplay Clinton's tale of Bosnia sniper fire, leaving some McCain staffers frustrated and perplexed.

Instead, the critical focus has been on Barack Obama. McCain's official website features 14 press releases taking on Obama since the first of the year, only 3 for the former first lady.

I have learned down here in the past 2 years how BAD it is to call a black man *boy*. I never heard it used in such deragatory terms until I moved here.

If Hillary gets (or steals) the nomination and we end up with Grandpa McCain, one of my goals in exile will be to make sure she loses her Senate seat and can never run for office again.

I'm not familiar with Audio Hijack - but I assume it allows you to record whatever is playing on your computer. If so, just go over to YouTube. A lot of the Looney Tunes bits are there. For the "Duck Season, Wabbit Season" the link is

It's either a damned if you do, damned if you don't or a win-win situation.

If he'd responded in too "gentle" a fashion he would have been branded as soft - not up to the criticism. By getting a tad tacky, he could apologize for how his initial response.

That way he shows he *can* give as good as he gets and he's a bigger man because he can also turn around and admit his words were over the top.

You know you hit it on the head. seriously.

I guess I hate the fact that this primary season required this kind of response, because you are right... a few weeks ago he was questioned about whether or not he could handle the attacks...

I guess he really did have to fight fire with fire, but I did not want to ever see this in the primaries...

At least I feel good knowing that he can handle the shite that will be throwm in the GE.

Personally, I prefer the Irish Boilermaker: a shot of Jameson's with a Harp!

And I plan to visit a few choice outlets while I'm there - need to stock up on my beloved Trinity and a friend asked me to pick up a case of Two Buck Chuck for him at Trader Joe's.

I look forward to adding to my loverly stock for the serving bar.

Once I get my couch and a few more kinds of glasses for serving, I'll be ready for company!
