Operation General Election
Author: Raine    Date: 05/08/2008 12:24:42

It is time to change how we are seeing things. We need to start acting like the primary is over. We have a presumptive nominee and it is time we as a party start operating as tho we are in General Election mode. We do want to win in November, right? Of course we do!

I know that we still have 2 candidates that are actively seeking the Democratic party nomination. As the grassroots of this party, the donators, the true constituency, it is now our job to start -- REALLY START -- working to defeat John McCain. Until the superdelegates get off their asses and commit, someone has to carry the water for this party.

It's about a lot more than who wins the POTUS. A lot of seats in the House and the Senate are up for grabs that we must win to have a fillibuster proof majority. As long as this race is dragged out the way certain people seem to want it to, precious money is being spent - and precious attention is not being paid to things going on in your states and districts. No attention means those candidates probably need support and money. In the coming weeks, we will probably be adding capabilities for people who are members here to link to their candidates in local races. Operation GE is open to suggestions!

It is time to move into general Election mode along with all the others who know what we need to to defeat John McCain and the Republican party this fall. Call your local Democratic party office and voluteer. Find out who is running to represent your area. Put a sign in your yard saying that you will vote Dem.

I know people are tired. I know some will need more time than others to join OGE, but for those of us that can lead the charge it is time. I think the First job will be to come up with a better acronym than OGE!

We have given the talking points here abut McCain. Every day this goes on, John is out campaigning quietly and going VERY under the radar. In the coming months we will post about him -- again and again I am sure.

But for today, I say we begin Operation General Election.
We get to decide. WE make the Choice. We have to power to get the real message out -- door to door, hand to hand, call to call, volunteering, shouting, talking, communicating...

WE can and must get a working majority back in the ALL the branches of Government.

... And three outta three, ain't bad.

:peace: and
Raine

Mornin' Mondo!

I recently started a Facebook account and filled in a few things there, but I just don't get the appeal of it. I guess I'm just more in tune with message boards & diary-style blogging & MMO gaming.

So we're not allowed to have an opinion about whether Hillary should or should not drop out? It doesn't affect us? She's not hurting anybody?

Well, it really depends on how she conducts herself. If she does enough to cast doubt on out candidate's legitimacy as the democratic candidate, that's real harm and I have every right to worry about it.

That said: McCain is old, unprincipled, and scary.

I think that is BS... For the longest time we couldn't criticize either candidate lest we be accused of bashing...

It is time for her to leave the race, the math isn't there. I am not saying people should not be able to vote in the remanining races either. But it is time for her to shut the operation down.

Oh yeah, and I don't think ANYONE should be paying her campaign debt... ie: the loans she gave herself and the money she owes to MArk Penn.

Seems a shame though - that money could be going to help Obama beat McCain.

Raine, I don't think it will take long for McCain to blow a gasget during a debate. He won't be able to debate effectively because he has no clue what is going on, which will frustrate him, and then hopefully someone will ask a question that sends him over the edge and scares the American public sh*tless and Obama wins and we have a future without wars.

This was posted at Americablog.com:

===================================================

John,

I got home tonight from my job as finance director for a top-tier Democratic Congressional challenger and read your post regarding the negative impact of Hillary's staying in the race upon our Congressional candidates' fundraising. I can say definitively that what you wrote is absolutely true. My candidate speaks every day to donors who tell him directly that they're more focused on the Presidential right now, or that they're tapped out because they've given so much to the Presidential. Or simply, as you say, because they're just pissed off about the Presidential.

And that's not even counting those who simply don't return our calls, or blow the candidate off when we do get them on the phone. We'll never know how many of those people would have been max-out donors to us, but are simply too involved in (or turned off by) the Presidential race to give a damn about someone who's running for a House seat.

We had a good 1st Quarter anyway, but I don't think we can continue to reach our fundraising targets unless this thing gets settled, and quickly. For her to wait until June is a nightmare that may well guarantee that not only my guy, but dozens and dozens of other challengers will come up badly short of their goals for the 2nd Quarter. And my candidate is in the very top level of targeted races. I can only imagine what the lower tiers of challengers are facing (well, no, actually I've heard from some of them, including the finance chair for a candidate in the Midwest to whom I spoke today).

We need her to drop out now, not only for the sake of our real Presidential nominee winning in November, but so that the rest of us can finally have a fighting chance with donors.

===============================================================

This speaks directly to what I was trying to say in this morning's blog post.

THIS is how she is damaging the party.

If you signed up for direct deposit on your tax return, you got your rebate sent early to the same direct deposit account. Mailed checks are scheduled to start going out next week I think, in order by the last two digits of your SSN. (I'm not gettin' mine until the first week of June)

From TPM, Hillary Clinton says no to Michigan delagate proposal...

Camp Hillary is rejecting the new plan floated today by Michigan Dems that would seat the delegation by awarding 69 delegates to Hillary and 59 to Obama.

Hillary spokesperson Isaac Baker emails over this:

"This proposal does not honor the 600,000 votes that were cast in Michigan's January primary. Those votes must be counted."

This is hardly surprising, since the proposal gives Hillary a 10 delegate margin -- a significant cut from the 18-delegate margin of victory she enjoyed over "uncommitted" (Obama wasn't on the ballot) in the Michigan primary.

I don't seem to recall Hills fighting too loudly for these voters in Michigan -- or Florida, for that matter -- back before she "won" these unfair primaries. It's too bad that the discussion of what should be done about these delegates is tied to her (deluded) perception of the viability of her campaign.

Here's an oldie, but goodie from a couple of weeks back when Cheney & McSame were both in Saudi Arabia....

Hey Everyone….. Cheney is training McCain on how to get ‘greased up’ by the Saudis this week….

Yes…Cheney has been summoned by Saudi Arabia once again…err…sorry ‘Bush has dispatched him’ (LOL!!!!) because of the concern of high oil prices…

It goes like this…

Saudi Royals: “Hey….how come your people are driving less & less?”

Cheney: “Not sure…with our great economy & success in Iraq, I can’t imagine what’s come over them.”

Saudi Royals: “Hey…who’s the new schmuck?”

Cheney: “Oh hey…this is ummm, John McSame…err..McCain, he’ll be your new errand boy…I’m retiring to Dubai…where I’ll be a senior board member swimming in my Halliburton stocks at the new headquarters there…its going to be so great…all that illegal war profiteering and the benefit of no extradition/legal actions on a company no longer U.S. based…whew…can’t wait…oh sorry…just waxing poetic here…yeah, uh I introduce you to John McCain”

McCain: “Uh hello…would you like me to bow and kiss your ring now or later?”

Saudi Royals: “Ummm…now would be good, sure.”

McCain: “Oh…and I do requests as well, how about my ‘bomb, bomb, bomb Iran’?

Saudi Royals: “Oh….yes…please do, we like anything that talks about bombing our Shiite enemies, hit the lights!”

Hours later….and several liver destroying binges after…

McCain:”Well, I thought that went well”

Cheney: “Yeah, yeah, just wait until you get their 3AM phone calls”

McCain: “You mean…Clinton wasn’t lying”

Cheney: “Oh..no…I mean our people helped set that spot up for her, but yeah…those are the calls you get at 3AM, you know they’re 7 hours ahead here”

McCain: “Oh…yes….well, I think this is start of a beautiful friendship”

Cheney: “Just don’t ever forget to pack your KY…or you’ll be sore all the way home, now go on kid, you bother me….now where’s my lesbian daughter, lesbian wife, & my in vitro granddaughter?”

Why Vet's are voting for Obama, from HuffPo...

Senator Obama, when he arrived in Washington, volunteered for the all important, but not very glamorous, Senate Committee on Veteran's Affairs. In the wake of the housing and medical evaluation scandal at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Obama introduced a sweeping bill, called the Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act, calling for comprehensive reforms in how our combat veterans and their families are treated.

Vets support Obama because he will fully fund the VA healthcare budget, will bring Priority 8 vets back into the VA healthcare system, will expand the GI Bill to allow spouses and children to be eligible to use veteran benefits and will treat Guardsmen and Reservists equally, and he will comprehensively address the pain and devastation brought onto vets by PTSD and traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

And of critical importance, Barack Obama has pledged a "zero tolerance" policy to end veteran homelessness. The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans noted in Congressional testimony that "We extend our deep gratitude to Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) for catapulting homeless veteran issues onto the Senate agenda ...."

It is for all these reasons that veterans support Barack Obama for president. But mostly America's veterans support Barack Obama because his support of veterans and their families is passionate and unqualified.

This man, Barack Obama, I think has been very nice to Hillary Clinton in the primaries, he never said she was offensive, nor spoke of her the way he just spoke of McCain... and I think he will be unleashing his *way* against MCCain that no one is ready for.

The two endorsements bring Clinton's advantage over Obama among superdelegates down to seven, according to CNN's estimate; Clinton has the backing of 267 superdelegates, while Obama has 250.

Since Tuesday's primaries, Obama has gained six superdelegates while Clinton has picked up one. But Clinton also lost a superdelegate Wednesday — DNC member Jennifer McClellan switched her support to Obama — for a net gain of zero.

From CNN...

OK. hillary is now just looking foolish.

In the mean time McCain is vowing to Pass LAws that have already been passed...

McCain also said he would crack down on human trafficking by creating a inter-agency task force to strengthen cooperation between federal, state and local law enforcement.

McCain said he would to work to change the economic incentives underpinning trafficking as well as doing more to aid the victims of "this evil form of 21st-century slavery."

First, HE voted against this sort of thing when we found out a few of his former buddies went to the Marianna Islands (Tom Delay, anyone)

From The DOJ: (More at the link)

Prosecution

The United States Government continued its efforts to improve anti-trafficking law enforcement efforts over the reporting period. The United States prohibits all forms of trafficking in persons through criminal statutes created or strengthened by the 2000 Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA), which prescribes penalties of up to 20 years' imprisonment-penalties that are sufficiently stringent and commensurate with those for other grave crimes. In FY 2006, the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Civil Rights Division and U.S. Attorneys' Offices initiated 168 investigations, charged 111 individuals, and obtained 98 convictions (including in cases initiated in previous fiscal years). Under the TVPA, traffickers can be sentenced to up to 20 years' imprisonment. The average sentence imposed for trafficking crimes in FY 2005 was 8.5 years (including defendants convicted in other fiscal years). The Federal Bureau of Investigation and DOJ Criminal Division continued to combat the exploitation of children in prostitution in the United States through the Innocence Lost National Initiative; in FY 2006, this Initiative resulted in 103 open investigations, 157 arrests, 76 indictments, and 43 convictions.

State and local governments also made significant law enforcement efforts against trafficking in persons. By the end of 2006, 27 states had passed criminal anti-trafficking legislation. DOJ and Health and Human Services (HHS) continue to increase the number of anti-trafficking task forces, coalitions, and outreach efforts across the United States. DOJ funded 42 task forces at the end of FY 2006, up from 32 in FY 2005. These task forces bring together state, local, and federal law enforcement with partners from NGOs.

In 2006, the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD) began developing resources to help investigators identify potential trafficking issues and began introducing trafficking issues into its investigator training curriculum. During the past year, WHD staff participated in over 30 local, multi-agency task forces on trafficking.

This is what the Media needs to be focusing on. instead of what Hillary is doing.

And These are the things we need to keep an eye out for. This was not a senior moment... this is a man that does not know what he is talking about.

Perhaps he could promise to have this law ENFORCED... but he won't... he voted agaisnt strengthenthing this in 2006, and he will continue to water it down if he is elected.

Good evening, bloggers!

I hope that everyone is doing well. (I have been busy, and my allergies have been a bit hyperactive.)

As some here may know, I now live in Northwest Indiana. I voted for Obama Tuesday, and I think Obama has it sewn up - save for appeals to the superdelegates. (Clinton may make her appeals, but I doubt most of the superdelegates - many of whom are elected representatives - will award her the nomination. )

Hi VJ. Listening to Rush is not good for your state of mind. I would rather listen to really bad music before I would ever put Rush on.

I caught the beginning of Mike Malloy on the way into work and he was questioning Hillary's mental state with the fact that she is continuing to push on even when it is now impossible for her to win.

See ya in the AM.

Comment by Raine on 05/09/2008 04:04:23
Liv -- you should post the music anyway. Don't let my 'possible' appearance be a deterrent... there are many others who would enjoy it, just as there are many people who read and do not post.

If you have music to post, post it. people can alwasy use music... Share teh music you like with the entore blog family. Many people wake up in the morning to see what they missed the night before, ya know.

And now... as My eyes droop. I am off to bed.
