I think it is disgusting to see self proclaimed Christians try to use the bible to justify killing criminals.

they get the Old and New Testaments mixed up when they try to justify. They also keep forgetting that its the New Testament Christians use.

Good morning, bloggers!!

Also, they do not know the context of many of the verses in what they call the Old Testament and I call the Tanakh. (The Jewish acronym for the scriptures.) The verses often cited on a ban on homosexuality are in a section regarding the practices of now vanished faiths, that used temple prostitutes. Also, many people of Jewish or Christian faith realize that a literal reading of a text (particularly a translation of a translation of a translation) is only one way to read the text. This is an old idea, dating back some 2500 years to Ezra the Scribe.

AHH… with so many of these pro DP callers, they make me mourn the loss of nuance and actual discussion.

Well, well. For the first time since around 9-11, I am actually flying the Stars and Stripes. I stopped doing so during the Bush presidency (I hoisted a Culpeper Minuteman flag in those days) and have been flying a Bennington for years. That was starting to look a little raggedy, so I finally bought an *actual* US flag this past week.

Why would you sentence him to live with animals? He clearly can't deal with them.

I think that we need to take our country and our national symbols back fore , and I will be commenting on one effort to do so when I do a quick blog entry.

In some news, I may have a lead on a temporary job that may either help me get a car (I am working on something else for that) or have money for a likely move. From Wednesday night through Thursday night, I applied to over 40 teaching jobs. Getting a late start today as I house and dog-sat. (A friend has a very sweet-natured beagle.)

Slowly getting my gear together....headed down to Plymouth no later than 4:30 this afternoon. Woodbadge weekend II in the offing.

I am looking forward to seeing my own course Mentor, a Dr. Neil Lupton. (I blogged about him before.) He is one of those gentlemen that simply by being in the same room as him, he makes us all better Scouters.

Taking a leap of faith....I am leaving my tent and my matress behind. I will be "hanging" this weekend again. (But if things go south, we have staff cabins.)
