In the 2004 election I voted for……no one. Well, I tried to vote for John Kerry, not because I liked John Kerry so much, but more because I hated what Bush was doing to our country. But my vote didn’t count. How do I know this for certain? I still have my absentee ballot sitting in my filing cabinet!
Having just moved back home, I decided to “be safe” and use an absentee ballot since I didn’t trust the voting machines that were designed to not leave an audit trail. I was told that my signature did not match the one on file. I was told this one week before the election, and after many phones calls and mailings I was finally able to convince the Board of Elections that I was me. So they promptly mailed my ballot several days later to arrive at noon, on……. Election Day!
A few of the tactics used by people wanting to RIG THE VOTES:
Caging
Vote caging is a voter suppression tactic. The term is derived from a direct mail term. In the direct mail industry, when a third party runs a direct mailing campaign on behalf of a client organization, one of the activities undertaken is to compile all of the responses, handle contributions and to deposit received funds into the client's account, and also update the database of names and addresses that were mailed to with the responses or corrected addresses obtained. Since some of the activities were controlled carefully (donations and deposits) and conducted in a manner similar to the activities within a "teller's cage," the process is called "caging" and the end result of the data entry updates and address corrections is called a "caging list." This led to the term "voter caging" for voter registration analysis and challenges conducted via mass mailings.
Here’s how this has worked in the past, and in fact this example was used in Jacksonville Florida in the 2004 election targeting predominately black servicemen. The RNC mailed these voters’ letters in envelopes marked, 'Do not forward', to be returned to the sender. These letters were mailed to servicemen and women, some stationed overseas, to their US home addresses. The letters then returned to the Bush-Cheney campaign as 'undeliverable.' The RNC in Florida could then dispute these voters’ absentee votes.
Or, they might target a large Democratic community and send letters that appear to be from the Board of Elections telling them that their polling place has changed, or they are to vote on Wednesday. Both tactics have been documented to keep Democrats from going to the poll. Keep in mind that at any time the Democrats could decide to do this, if they’re not already, and it would be Republicans that are targeted.
Another caging method is simply to make it difficult to nearly impossible to vote. Broken machines (often with poll workers who don’t understand how they work), long lines, towing cars, spreading rumors and much more.
Here is a small taste of what happened in Ohio in 2004.
Partisan redistricting aka Gerrymandering
Redrawing the voter district lines making dividing groups of people that may be more likely to vote one way or another, in this way boundaries are manipulated for electoral advantage.
This tactic started with Tom Delay in TX and continues to work in many states where redistricting is allowed. Pay careful attention to your local politicians.
The two aims of gerrymandering are to maximize the effect of supporters’ votes and to minimize the effect of opponents' votes. One strategy, packing, is to concentrate as many voters of one type into a single electoral district to reduce their influence in other districts. A second strategy, cracking, involves spreading out voters of a particular type among many districts in order to deny them a sufficiently large voting block in any particular district. The strategies are typically combined, creating a few "forfeit" seats for packed voters of one type in order to secure even greater representation for voters of another type.
Outright THEFT
One word Diebold - actually now called Premier. Why was anyone be so naïve as to think that a machine that wouldn’t leave a paper trail could actually be trustworthy? Especially a company that contributes to one party, promises that same party they will deliver a win, and then said party does win!
Athan Gibbs had a machine that would count votes leaving a paper audit. But Athan had a (some say) suspiciously timed accident just as his machines were getting noticed.
Can you imagine what kind of temper tantrum our "pResident" would have if this stuff happened in another country? Venezuela or Russia or Iraq? Our House and Senate would be up in arms, the Republicans screaming the loudest. So how come we don't hear John Boehner screaming about this?
What can you do to stop our votes from being stolen…..again?
Volunteer to be a poll watcher. Demand from your state that there is a verifiable paper trail. Be aware of ploys to change the boundaries of voter districts. Watch this movie on DVD or the Starz network to learn more:
Another cool blog VJ. This election is so crucial and I am sure having votes count will still be a battle but I am hoping that the millions of newly registered voters will not put up with the crap sure to come.

I caught a little of it on one of the Starz! channels the other day when I was flipping channels but I still have to see the whole thing.
The one thing that does worry me the most is that the GOP is trying to pull the elections shenanigans again in this election. They know this year that they can't win by fair means so they have to suppress voter turnout if they are going to survive. That's just exactly how one-party dictatorships function.

First homes, now cars. Yeah, that Obama sure is an elitist!
When you have seven homes, that's a lot of garages to fill. After the fuss over the number of residences owned by the two presidential nominees, NEWSWEEK looked into the candidates' cars. And based on public vehicle-registration records, here's the score. John and Cindy McCain: 13. Barack and Michelle Obama: one.

Tonight, I'm a Yankees fan.
My love of the game transcends petty bickering. (Did you know that Javi's first look at a baseball game was the Yankees? It was on in the hotel at 8am in Manila)
Even if it hurts the Sox for a day...the Yankees should win their last game in the stadium.

Instead of (in addition to?) us all sending around emails about how horrible she is, let's all make a donation to Planned Parenthood, in Sarah Palin's name. And here's the good part: when you make a donation to Planned Parenthood in her name, they'll send her a card telling her that the donation has been made in her honor. Here's the link to the Planned Parenthood website:

You'll need to fill in the address to let PP know where to send the "in Sarah Palin's honor" card. I suggest you use the address for the McCain campaign headquarters, which is:

Say what you want.... this is the end of an Era... an 85 year Era.
And the Stands are still filled.

Heya Kids,
Here's a groovy idea (excuse me if y'all have already gotten this e-mail :D).
you may have received this idea already,
but what a good idea...
I received this from Teri Matelson who got the idea from a friend of hers....
Here's the link to the Planned Parenthood website:
https://secure.ga0.org/02/pp10000_inhonor
You'll need to fill in the address to let PP know where to send the "in Sarah Palin's honor" card. I suggest you use the address for the McCain campaign headquarters, which is:
McCain for President
1235 S. Clark Street
1st Floor
Arlington, VA 22202
I just sent PP a small donation in Mrs. Palin's name - I love the win/win aspect of this campaign. Nothing sez we're thinking of you as the mother of an unwed pregnant teen like a donation in your honor to Planned Parenthood :P
Cheers.

 & :peace:
I LOVE this!!
