"I think we need to be open to whether we need additional action. We need to continue to focus on bringing the economy back to a place where we're not losing jobs."
Hoyer made no specific proposals for a possible additional stimulus. Others have suggested extended unemployment compensation benefits and a payroll tax holiday.
But on Tuesday, according to news reports, Laura Tyson, a member of the president's Economic Advisory Panel, said that while the current stimulus is of an appropriate size and includes "a significant amount of investment in long-term growth," another may be necessary to put the economy on the right track. Speaking at an economic forum in Singapore, Tyson said she was expressing her own views, not the administration's position.
Q: Thank you, Mr. President. If I can just return to the economy more generally. When you were selling the economic stimulus package, you talked and your advisors and economists talked about keeping unemployment below 8 percent. Last week you acknowledged that unemployment is likely to reach double digits, being 10 percent. Do you think you need a second stimulus package?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, not yet, because I think it's important to see how the economy evolves and how effective the first stimulus is. I think it's fair to say that -- keep in mind the stimulus package was the first thing we did, and we did it a couple of weeks after inauguration. At that point nobody understood what the depths of this recession were going to look like. If you recall, it was only significantly later that we suddenly get a report that the economy had tanked.
And so it's not surprising then that we missed the mark in terms of our estimates of where unemployment would go. I think it's pretty clear now that unemployment will end up going over 10 percent, if you just look at the pattern, because of the fact that even after employers and businesses start investing again and start hiring again, typically it takes a while for that employment number to catch up with economic recovery. And we're still not at actual recovery yet.
So I anticipate that this is going to be a difficult -- difficult year, a difficult period.

One more thing that is really pissing me off about this stimulus thing is that the Money that HAS gone to the states isn't being spent. How pray tell is that The Presidents fault?

That's odd. The way I read the Bible, slavery is VERY Christian. All Christ was concerned about was that they were treated well, not that they were emancipated...

Think that comes from the whole "conquering nations conquer" theroy. In wars nations (or kingdoms) would take the people of other lands and turn them in to slaves. It was the wages of war. I'm not saying its not bad I'm just saying that's my vague notion of ancient history

With merger completed, experienced MMO maker Mythic (Dark Age of Chaos, Warhammer Online) is now teamed up with KOTOR creator Bioware on Star Wars Old Republic MMO
I also got word on a possible offline beta group signup for Final Fantasy XIV. It was advertised on a Japanese website though so no word on whether it'll be available to NA clients.

Which FF or SW:TOR? Both should be playable on a current mid-range gaming computer and FFXIV will be on PS3 as well, though I'm not sure the beta will.

See now Carlin I thought was hysterical, seen some Lenny Bruce, he was really funny too, Kaufman - he had to really grow on me before I got the joke - but Cohen just comes off as crude to me.
And granted, I get that there is humor in crudity but he keeps going until its loses its funny

Carlin has the exact opposite effect...as he got older, his jokes became less appealing. Still funny as hell, but not as much as in the 60's and 70's

Hey Scoop, did you ever get FSX? I'm still flying FS9 (ACOF) and I've been mulling over upgrading while I still can, since MSoft exterminated the franchise...
My computer is 5 years old now. Ancient history, I know, but I put a lot of upgrades into it to run FS9 at an acceptable level.
Of course, I could go the other way and dust off my old copy of 98. I never did have any problems with that version. (2000 sucked prong; I never got 02.)

Mala that's exactly what I was just going to say. If I felt really sick when I woke up this morning and I called the Doctor, I would NOT, I repeat NOT be able to get a Dr. appointment today. I would either have to go to a Walk-in clinic, where I am seeing someone who ISN'T my Doctor, or I would have to go to the ER. Do you wait at the ER? I can't remember. Hmmm....

He's abrasive and EXTREMELY satirical with his material, and he also mixes in a lot of just plain insane antics.
I want to say he's cutting edge for our time, like Lenny Bruce or Andy Kaufman or George Carlin were when they came on the scene.. it's a hard sell though.

THe first time I actually went to the emergency room, back when I sprained my ankle really badly and the doctor told me to go to get it xrayed in case it was broken, there was a girl who came in after me that was doubled over in pain.
I was fine sitting in a wheelchair, watching tv and trying not to fall asleep. A few hours after I got there they finally came out to get me and I told them they should take the girl before me because it was obvious she was in really hurting, they said they couldn't cause there system only allows for them to talk people in the order they came in unless it was by ambulance.
That was about the silliest thing I'd ever heard.

From thinkprogress
Steele on Wednesday brushed off the recent incidents as “old news, old school.”
“That’s not the generation of candidates I’m trying to groom, he said.
Steele said the party needs to get back to its small-government roots. Daniels and fellow governors Haley Barbour of Mississippi, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Bobby Jindal of Louisiana are great examples, he said.
“These guys are the laboratories for the ideas we believe in,” Steele said.

Iranian police fire in air to disperse protesters
By Parisa Hafezi
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Riot police fired in the air to disperse pro-reform demonstrators in central Tehran on Thursday, nearly four weeks after a disputed election triggered mass protests across Iran, a witness said.
Police detained several people among hundreds of protesters who turned up near Tehran University in defiance of a ban on gatherings for the anniversary of violent student demonstrations in 1999, the witness told Reuters. Another witness said police also used tear gas.
It appeared to be the worst outbreak of unrest in Tehran since security forces last month quelled days of opposition protests over the June 12 election, which moderate opponents of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad say was rigged in his favor.
Even though Thursday's rally was a far cry from those that erupted after the vote, it was a sign of continuing discontent among at least some opposition supporters, who took part in the demonstration despite a heavy presence by the security forces.

Projo.com - RI Tea Party group kicked out & BANNED from Bristol Fourth of July Parade
Shit.. it's on Freeperville.
My landlord is the person who ran the Float Committee for this year's parade and is the person who threw this idiot out. He did it because they were handing out fliers (copies of the Constitution) from their float. In turn, this psycho bitch GAVE OUT HIS PHONE NUMBER IN A MASS EMAIL TO HER TEA PARTY PSYCHO FRIENDS and said she was kicked out for handing out copies of the Constitution. She also lied and said that another float was handing things out and they were not penalized.
He's been on phone patrol all day and all night, received non-stop calls from mindless GOOperatoms across the country including a veiled death threat from some retired General in South Carolina (who eventually turned around, apologized and said he would support the committee financially AND break all ties with the nutjob who runs RITP, has been defamed on two radio hosts in the state, and has been asked to give interviews on local television and radio.
Yikes. Good thing I'm goin' to visit my mom this weekend! I'm gonna make sure we lock the doors for now on too.
