Yesterday's Politician
Author: Raine    Date: 12/28/2009 13:55:10

"Somebody in our government said to me in Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, Iraq was yesterday's war. Afghanistan is today's war. If we don't act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow's war,"
That was Joe Lieberman yesterday on Fox news sunday.

“You’ve got to take out the Medicare buy-in, You’ve got to forget about the public option. You probably have to take out the Class Act, which was a whole new entitlement program that will, in future years, put us further into deficit.
That Was Joe Lieberman on Dec 14 on Meet the Press.

"We're trying to do too much at once, To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now."
That Was Joe Lieberman on October 27.

So, just to get this straight, Lieberman is fine with a pre-emptive attack in another country, further putting our country in debt but found expanding Health Care Reform to millions of Americans too expensive.

We have had too many pre-emptive wars. It has drained American resources and taken thousands of lives. This man -- who never served in the armed forces -- is more than willing to shed more American blood for his neo-con agenda, both foreign and abroad. More people die here in America from lack of health insurance than do our troops on foreign soil. It's been mentioned here at 4F many times that the cost of people without health insurance in America is more than we spend on defense. Joe made no mention of the cost of a pre-emptive strike (or the legality of it) nor does he acknowledge the cost of our other 2 occupations. Both occupations have been well documented here as well, every Tuesday with our "Ask A Vet" blog.

It could be that Liberman is trying to divert attention from the fact he leads the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. He's supposed to oversee the various watch and no-fly lists that could have stopped, or at least alerted us, that Abdulmutallab was in the air. These lists are filled with people who have merely made political statements critical of the US, yet represent no present danger. Many are still given visa by the State department-- but the committee that Joe is on is supposed to supplement the DHS itself. It is supposed to help protect America. Abdulmutallab's own father tried to warn us his son had gone radical and might do something really stupid. He did and Liberman paid no attention to the warning -- assuming he knew, and based upon his statement, he is acting like he knew something. Peter King and Pete Hoekstra have indicated they knew something as well, nothing was done to prevent this, if they did. If he and others did not know, then they should not speak of the matter.

Instead of shouldering his responsibility as head of that committee, he calls for more war. This is typical neo-conservative, Bush Doctrine thinking. It just like the last administration, who incidentally, issued this failed bomber his visa to come to the United States. Abdulmutallab may not have been 'radicalized' at the time, to be fair, but it is still worth noting. It reminds me of John McCain claiming during the campaign that he knew how to get Osama Bin Laden, and I'm still waiting for that solution. It seems like a neo-con's only solution is to attack. Tomorrow it will be Yemen, the next Day Nigeria, after that, why not the Netherlands? How about Iran? How about we attack every country that scares a neo-con? It seems that is what Joe wants, literally at any cost.

Someone needs to tell Joe that McCain did not win the election and someone needs to remind Joe that if he is willing to spend millions more on war, he better get his head out of his ass and understand that HCR is the only way we can shore up this nation economically. The Bush Doctrine was retired January 20, 2009. War is not peace. The United States and its armed forces cannot afford a third invasion economically or emotionally.

If he thinks Yemen is tomorrow's war, then it is way past time to make Joe yesterday's politician.

Raine

It's okay, except for Ian having a weird rash, and Mrs. C having back pains. I'm sitting here right now watching Hal do the SMS. Now, is Steph doing a cam during her broadcasts, or is it just a Hal Sparks/KTLA thing?

Morning guys! How was everyone's holiday?

Sooo yeaah I got home yesterday after a mini-vacation with the fam, and my landlord hands me the box with my BJ gift (the one I sent out)... He says it arrives with Saturday's mail, just before the rain started. The box was thoroughly DESTROYED!

Why do I always have shitty luck with shipping stuff!

Good morning everyone. With the Christmas pet menagerie, it's a little crazy here in the house this hodiay and I got my blogger Joe gift a week ago and it's still sitting there waiting to be opened. Right now in addition to the regular cat who's a bit grumpy this morning. My housemate's daugher has brought her two cats over to join the festivities while she's staying here and there is also a dog who's over for the holidays which my housemate is dogsitting and unless I close the door they frequently come in to visit.

I really want to tell Joe Lieberman what Dick Cheney said to Pat Leahy.

In other news, I find out on facebook one of my old colleagues from the college radio station has died yesterday. The last thing he posted on his facebook page was that he had a mini-stroke about a week ago and this seems a comment on our health care system that he's a year younger than me and this happened to him.

Holy Joe is licking his chops to get some more war money. Now that he's made Aetna happy....

I think we're getting Anne's replacement vehicle today. Found a lot open Sunday (actually the owner opened because someone made an appointment but never showed up) and found a (I hope) decent car. Checked the other lots in the area this morning but nothing stood out, because she's short and has a bad knee it's hard to find something that fits right. Anyway went back to the other lot this morning and the car we wanted was nowhere to be found :(

The dealer was already getting it prepped for us even though we hadn't committed yet. So with luck I can stop being my wife's chauffeur tomorrow. But then I have to worry about getting the Honda fixed. Sounds like rear wheel bearings. Hopefully not too bad. After 197K miles can't complain.

Which may mean we reschedule to Thursday *waits for angry mob to pitch rotten veggies*

Hi, everyone!

I hope that those who celebrated Christmas enjoyed the holiday. (I did post some Christmas related videos on the blog for that day.)

For myself, I am doing a lot of job hunting today as I have family and friends to see over the next two days. (The job sections of the papers are thin, but I did find another teaching position that starts in late January to apply to.) In the bad news, the adjunct faculty teaching position that I interviewed for recently did not come through. (It might have helped if I had a job already teaching.) C'est la vie.
