I was going to write about the environment today. That, or the Wall Street crash, or - well... anything except T-Rump. I just couldn't get inspired to do so, and there wasn't anything really that had that "wow" factor to make an interesting blog.

So instead - Trump.

What it's really about, though, is the sad state of affairs over in Republican-land. Four years ago, we had a similar clown car full of people who had no business thinking they could be president. Like waves on the shore, they each had their peak and crash, before receding back, gone from the view. It was always "anyone but Romney" until he was the only one left.

This time around, that isn't happening... hopefully "yet". Trump is still dominating every news cycle with those on the left wondering how could he still be around as he gets more publicity on MSNBC than even the Democratic candidates. On Fox "News", it's all Trump, all the time (including several manufactured "dust ups"). They seem to want to control him, but he doesn't care, and they aren't sure how to bring the monster they created under control.

Trump doesn't really care how much money he loses. All he cares about is losing face, so he insults everyone who disagrees with him or contradicts him, regardless of who the person is, or how crude the insult is. It is the exact opposite of the type of temperament a president should have. The presidency should always be about the country, not about the man (or woman). Trump's cheerleaders don't seem to understand any of that. What they see is someone who doesn't act like a "wimp" - he feeds into their WWF mindset, and makes the race all about bluster and attitude instead of policy and plans.

This time around, I keep looking for that milquetoast candidate that the Republican diehards don't want, but don't realize they need. I don't see one. Kasich or Pataki come close, but they don't have that depth of recognition that's necessary to keep going through all 50 states.

For that matter, I can't imagine someone who is such a hard-core New Yorker as Trump doing well in the deep South. Maybe Trump won't flame out until we start getting some southern state primaries behind us.

It has to happen. If Trump makes it all the way through and becomes the Republican candidate, then we as a nation get what we deserve - ridicule from other countries, and a circus of a general election. To our Republican primary voting friends - let's not let the clown car get that far.

Please?
